Steelers sign Cordarrelle Patterson
Hmmmm on the two years, though I guess it depends on how it's structured.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

I know many will hate it...I don't.
He's a good pass catcher and will serve as RB 3. I think there's still some gas left in the tank after watching him last year.
He also just became the primary kick returner with the rule changes today.

I feel like we signed a #3 RB and he magically became our WR2.
I had predicted and called for them to sign him. Glad they did. Hopefully he took a discount getting him back a little closer to league minimum, and physically he doesn't fall off a cliff this year.
Last year was a down year for him with the new 1st round RB in ATL, but prior to that, he was also extremely effective with scoring plays (run and pass) inside the 20 and 10 yard lines. I think (and hope) he's still very capable in short area maneuvering (where he has great setup and vision)!
And, obviously, there's his top notch KR abilities -- when it's more important than even now. With CP and the new KO rule, I would think Boz might average an extra FG attempt a game almost this year.
I like it...the more you can do....WR/RB/KR.
Should allow us to carry an extra body in another room, too!

Did you watch any XFL last year? Basically the same.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 8:55 pmWhat was the big kickoff change?Charles Demarr wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 8:20 pmI know many will hate it...I don't.

KR definitely just became a lot more important, particularly in the hands of a creative STs coach. The bad news there, of course, being Danny Smith.Charles Demarr wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 8:20 pmI know many will hate it...I don't.

Kinda knew it was a matter of time once he became a F/A before he made the Steelers squad….lol.
One of those players that got away; Tomlin has been infatuated with since Patterson entered the league.
The more the merrier. I think it’s safe to say WR is definitely on the draft radar.

“I pride myself in creating discomfort for myself and others,” Tomlin said, “I’m fundamentally against comfort.” [3-24-2024]
I'd still take Justin Hunter over him..........
Tiny hands, smaller heart.
2 years…$6M according to ESPN ticker.
Don’t know the breakdown.

I remember a bunch of people on this board wanted the Steelers to take him in the 2013 Draft. Would have been better than Jervis. Better late than never.

Outside of Pickens we have two quick speedy guys with Austin III and Watkins and now Patterson. Would have liked him about 2-3 years earlier, but I love utility players like Patterson and I think we have an OC who will use him in fun ways. He's a nice red zone target and can make things happen in the kicking game. Still feels a bit like a JAG squad overall with no true #2, but at least there's good athleticism in the room.Steelafan77 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 9:27 pmOne of those players that got away; Tomlin has been infatuated with since Patterson entered the league.

With the new rules, it seems to me you need a guy that can side-step and then get to speed quick. I think he fits the bill nicely. Big body that can break a tackle and outrun a guy to the edge. I know he is a bit up in age but if the defense is good he will only have a few 3ish KR per game.Charles Demarr wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 8:20 pm

The team could do off the wall things near the endzone or in short yardage. 14, 80 & 3 RBs. Running a jumbo 31 package and spreading it out with a bunch of big uglies on the field for the D. Stress the edges of the D.

People here hate on him but I have yet to hear a negative thing said about that man by anyone that has actually met or interacted with him. I am getting my information from hearing various interviews and podcasts over the years. People have said he knows the rulebook inside out and that is why he always seems near the scene when the refs are talking about what the calls are with Tomlin.
I understand the signing. I just have never been a fan of 33 yr old signings at positions that require great athleticism. All he has to lose is one step, and he's basically pretty useless the next 2 years.
I remember reading an article a while back…a couple three years ago or so, that amongst NFL people, coaches, GMs, FO personnel , he’s considered one of the better STs coaches in the league.stillthere wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 6:02 amPeople here hate on him but I have yet to hear a negative thing said about that man by anyone that has actually met or interacted with him. Patterson has been talked about extensively on NFL radio about being the best in the league and Pat Kirwan joked several times on air about how he can’t wait to see how many GM’s and coaches have him on speed dial once the new KO rule passed. Spent 2 yrs with our OC in Atlanta.
This guy is going to be a huge help to this team!

I was a really big fan of him as a prospect. Really pushed for him that year. Hasn’t exactly had the career I hoped but he has carved out a nice niche for himself.JackLambert58 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 12:40 amI remember a bunch of people on this board wanted the Steelers to take him in the 2013 Draft. Ok. We have a new KR. But the most important question is this. Will Steelers hand him his usual number 84 jersey?
