According to ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Pittsburgh Steelers are signing former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Quez Watkins. Watkins spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Eagles after being a sixth-round pick out of Southern Miss.

4 years with Philly

6'-0" 193

98 catches 1249 12.7 avg and 6 TD
snap counts last 3 years, went down as the WR talent in that building got better..
2021 - 771
2022 - 681
2023 - 304

https://www.profootballrumors.com/2024/ ... ez-watkins
Watkins played out his rookie contract with the Eagles, and his tenure with the team included flashes of potential as a vertical threat. He recorded 43 catches for 647 yards in 2021, but since then his role has diminished. With both A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in place atop the WR depth chart, it comes as little surprise Philadelphia allowed Watkins to depart in free agency.

Cannot see much money in this contract?

$2 million ?

a bit above Vet min?

$1.2- $1.3 seems like the getting price for WR in his range

Quez, who still has to get the final Name approval or name change........
a #3 at best........
#4 likley.

1. Pickens,
2.( Draft 1st / 2nd round or FA WR )
3. ( FA or 2nd / 3rd round Draft )
4/5 Austin / Quez
5/6 Van the man / Callaway / Mims / Fitzpatrick

Are Tyler Boyd, Hunter Renfroe as a #2/#3 still on the radar before the draft?
As this signing does not fill the role of a #2 or #2a

Too bad "Quez" isn't in the Scrabble dictionary.

Solid signing if the numbers are right

Pickens Draft pick Jefferson Austin Watkins seems like a good group

Perch’s Michigan guy seems more and more likely

Watkins has one great skill: deep ball. Pretty good if he catches a slant with space. Speedy and good hands.

Poor man’s Mike Wallace
1 20 Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
2 51 TRADE: Brandon Aiyuk, WR
3 84 Hunter Nourzad, C, Penn State
3× 98 Jarvis Brownlee, Jr., CB, Florida State
4 128 Qwan'tez Stiggers, DB, Toronto Argonauts

Am I wrong thinking Arthur Smith is going to feature a lot of 2 RB and/or 2 TE sets?

I'm thinking our #3 WR is going to be near the bottom of the league in snap count. Still need to draft a WR high, but with Austin and Watkins as the #3 and vet depth they are probably OK with the room.

Eh….good hands? His drop in the SB was a pivotal missed play for the Eagles.

I don’t think “good hands” when I hear his name. All my Iggles fans friends have told me the opposite.

Well, I know one thing; the WR corp is already much faster than the recent years past.

And I'm almost positive, the WR corp is better than the last 2 years. Only time will tell, but in my opinion the #3, 4, 5 WR roster is better.

This esteemed site biggest grips/whines:

- DJ Sucks - Check
- WR need more speed - Check
- Steeler need to get faster - Check
- Bottom of the roster needs upgraded - Check
- Tomlin sucks at everything - Well, we all know that isn't changing any time soon.

He’s made some great catches on the sideline and on deep balls. He definitely has drops but I think less than some.

I look at it this way: he’s a very efficient deep ball receiver.

Diontae Johnson catch % 61
George Pickens 60%
Quez Watkins 67%
1 20 Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
2 51 TRADE: Brandon Aiyuk, WR
3 84 Hunter Nourzad, C, Penn State
3× 98 Jarvis Brownlee, Jr., CB, Florida State
4 128 Qwan'tez Stiggers, DB, Toronto Argonauts

And B2B, if your mock goes that way in April for real, we will be set. I know, I'd be pretty pumped for the season.

Hopefully, the coaching changes work out????

IDK. A lot of things have to go right for them to be a solid contender.

We’d need a coaching staff to actually make all the new pieces mesh, for one.

This coaching staff takes 12 games to teach the players how to perform a simple substitution, and that’s largely with players who have been there for multiple seasons.

With all these new pieces, it’s going to take at least 3 season before we know how to line up correctly.

You're not kidding.
10 man on the field, 12 men....
I believe we were penalized, went 3 straight games with other than 11 on the field.

Add in 3-4 FA and drafted WRs.
Maybe a rookie Center....
Possibly a rookie OT.
New QB's.

And yeah.....could be a bumpy first 10 again

Yep. He’s a great fit. I love that he did his pro day at his old high school. Had to be a treat for the kids there.

I like the Watkins signing. He has real speed and the ability to stretch a defense. I've been screaming for years that we need more explosive playmakers to create more space on the field. I get it that he doesn't have the most reliable hands but I've seen him make some tough catches and big plays for the Eagles. Not his fault Philly was pretty loaded at WR.

He's also very young still. If CA3 doesn't take a step forward we are really going to need Watkins.

I wouldn't be shocked if Austin doesn't make the final 53. He hasn't really shown anything, and the Steelers have signed 3 WRs and will likely draft at least one more.
