Zach Fraziers comp is AQ Shipley

Post by TimmayLake » Sat Apr 27, 2024 12:48 am

Shipley was a 7th round pick…

Think this was a bit of a reach pick?

Hopefully, only from a measurables standpoint.

I'm hoping Frazier is more football functional at the NFL level than A.Q.

This team had many holes to fill, a result of not drafting and developing well enough.

No.

Bigger than AQ.
2+ " Taller.
Bit heavier.
This kid hands are almost 11"
4 year starter.

Day 1 Starter.

I’ll trust Weidl over lance zierlein, 100 out of 100 times

Also, who exactly do you suppose is playing Center next season, if you don’t take Frazier there?

Last, they are ridiculously fortunate that he fell this far.

Almost every draft simulator had the top 3 centers gone by 2.51

Pre-Draft Analysis
Frazier is a four-year starter and three-time team captain who played center and guard at West Virginia. He was a four-time heavyweight wrestling champion in high school, and he's tough to beat once he locks onto defenders with his big hands. He has the quickness to reach and seal defenders on zone runs. Frazier has a nasty disposition and good finishing power. He gets set quickly, has a strong punch and anchors well in pass protection. -- Steve Muench

Matt Miller's pro comp: Creed Humphrey
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Frazier might well be the steal of the entire haul at this slot.

When the Stiller’s drafted Pat Freirmuth a few years ago, I was screaming Creed Humphrey at the TV….so to see Muth announce Frazier as our next starting Center…..bizarre.

I have to admit, I was leaning A Mitchell when this pick was announced, but I am happy. He’s gonna be a good one!

Carlton Haselrig meets Maurkice Pouncey.

Not quite the wrestling chops as Haselrig, but 4 time heavyweight state champion is pretty impressive. Who knows what would have happened if he would have stuck with wrestling. Also bigger than Haselrig.

Haselrig never played football until the Steelers and became an All Pro.

Guessing Frazier playing football all through high school and a 4 year starter in college plus his chops as a heavyweight wrestler will serve him pretty well in the NFL.

Main notable thing about shipley was 29” arms. Frazier is 32” and a bit? Not in the same universe there.

One of the best measureables is what STD thinks of him. STD hates him so you know he's gonna be great.

I would, however, like to point out that AQ Shipley had 72 starts in a 9-year NFL career... meaning he wasn't terrible.

Yeah, if you're going to use that kind of an argument... KC loves Roman Wilson.

Don't know about KC's record except for with Pickett. Well Cotchery was pretty good for the Steelers.

In no universe is Zach Frazier’s NFL equivalent AQ Shipley.

Literally the last guy he has been right about and has been searching for that high ever since.

Ah, draft season. Where everyone cherry picks the two or three guys they liked that turned out great but glosses over the other 20 that were total busts.

The championship wrestling background is interesting.

So, he's not just a straight line athlete (not a good fit for the center position) like the desperate draft pick Greene.

The championship wrestling background means he probably has some level of natural awareness, body control, some natural ability to know how to leverage his body.

We shall see if he can play in the NFL at a high level.

I’m not a big Frazier fan

I would’ve been able to be more hopeful about him quicker if he was pick 98 or 119

If the Steelers put solid OG play next to him he should be good enough most of the time

At 51 it seems like the same kind of lazy homer draft/scouting that got us Kenny Touchdown

But he’s a Steeler now so I am rooting for him

Mason Rudolph
Mason was really never given a chance until last season where he was pretty good. He'll never be Ben or maybe even Justin Fields but I would not have protested if he were kept on as a backup.
