Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Bishop definitely does
Windmon has a decent chance at OLB
Edwards looks to be a far better player than Connor Heyward. Will he be given a fair chance ??
Plumlee has some juice Allen doesn’t have at 3rd QB but isn’t really an NFL QB by most standards

I have no clue why you would give your highest signing bonus ever to a QB who can't be a QB in the NFL. Do they want to create some sort of HB/RB role for him?

Ferris State Shon Stephens. Porter JRs cousin gets a rookie mini camp invite with the Steelers. Also with the Eagles. The Eagles 1st two picks were CBs though. I'd imagine if the Steelers wanted him on the 90 man roster, they could get him.

I would be surprised if Beanie Bishop isn’t the starting nickel CB. I mean, unless they’re signing a vet who’s not on the roster currently.

From what I read, only 3 spots left on the 90 man roster. No use adding more bodies just to be cut when a better player becomes available or will be added.
Say resigning Patrick Peterson or somebody maybe like Tyler Boyd, Justin Simmons, etc. Good chance players like Boyd, OBJ etc., asking price is dropping bigtime. Especially WRs; teams signed like 50 rookie WRs in the draft. And right now, to their teams, fan bases & the media, they're all pro bowlers & future hall of famers., right? No need to sign a C2 or more player when a team just signed 50 future superstars on rookie deals.
Hopefully Steelers save those last 3 spots for bargain hunting.
they get $5000 signing bonuses each. How many do you want at that point?

yeah, UDFA used to be a strong pipeline for us. Now it seems like the FO has no interest; last year’s UDFA class seemed almost intentionally bad.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 6:56 pmAt least fill out the roster for rookie camp. Take advantage of the chance to look at more players in a practice situation in your facility.

This year is better, but it still has a whiff of throwaway, with a RB/WR convert project, a long shot C, a STs EDGEy LB, and a decent RB with odds stacked against him barring a couple of injuries. But at least Beanie looks like an old school get at NCB who I fully expect to win the starting job.Mick wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 6:59 pmyeah, UDFA used to be a strong pipeline for us. Fwiw, they gave the previous "highest ever" bonus to that RB that didn't make the team last year, so it really doesn't matter that much in the big picture, I don't think.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

Another Ferris State University football alum has received his opportunity to compete in the National Football League (NFL) as standout receiver Xavier Wade (Holland/West Ottawa) has accepted a rookie mini camp invite from the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers.

Daijun Edwards looks like a MUCH better RB than C Heyward to me
I would send Heyward to the practice squad
But I bet Edwards has a GREAT preseason/camp and the Steelers cut him attempt to put him on the PS and he gets claimed and becomes a decent NFL rotational RB
And Warren and Harris are half a step slow in the fourth and at the end of the season

It's not Heyward vs Patterson. Patterson is a RB, Heyward is a TE/HBack. Maybe it's Coletto or Heyward, but could be both make it.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2024 12:04 pmDaijun Edwards looks like a MUCH better RB than C Heyward to me

I noticed him when looking at a couple of Ferris State players last year and considered him for Draft-A-Team this year.Steelafan77 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2024 3:00 amAnother Ferris State University football alum has received his opportunity to compete in the National Football League (NFL) as standout receiver Xavier Wade (Holland/West Ottawa) has accepted a rookie mini camp invite from the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers.

The past couple of years Ferris State was the best team in the best conference of D2. Wade was their best receiver, with a 44+% dominator rating, meaning he was the receiver the other team tried to stop but couldn't.
He was their "athletic, big receiver" at that level but will have to adjust to being a normal-sized and normal athlete WR in the NFL. He was a good player at D2 and came up big in the championship run, so it's possible he shows something.

C Heyward Colletto…….Just going off highlights I’d rather have Edwards on the roster than either one of those two……by a lot

Arthur Smith led the universe last year in 22 personnel. They will either have a FB or a TE/HBack that looks exactly like a FB.

Steelers signed a 6th UDFA (there are also tryout players): CB Derion McKenzie, CB, Merrimack. Details of he is measurables in the pinned thread about metrics, but the skinny is: he's slow and measured a couple of inches shorter than listed. STs/Safety kind of prospect.

Still
I think Edwards has some juice and if this team is gonna run the ball a lot they REALLY need a 3rd RB like Edwards
