Long time lurker, first time poaster.
Sorry to see that most of the old timers seem to have left the building.
What a draft though ehh?!?!? Some fine, upstanding character types in this one.
Who's your fav???
Its Payton Wilson for me.
I wish we'd have had Payton Wilson 10 years ago when it mattered more, but I do think he could be a good fit. Not sure if he'll get a chance to play defense right away, because he's more or less a fit for the same role that their big FA signing plays, but he'll certainly be a big part of STs.
While some of the old timers have timed out, not all of them have. And some just post less frequently--not totally surprising considering fewer people use message boards to talk about stuff the way we used to.
Good to have you aboard.

I don’t agree with him sitting. Im not saying he’s starting day one because ILBs don’t just walk in here and start. everyone but Queen and Robinson are doing a rehab and most of those guys won’t be ready until at least training camp.
With his coverage skills I see him as the nickel LB or if he’s good rushing the QB he might be put in that faux 3 OLB role we ran when we had some of those 1 year vets.

I agree with you that he *should* be looked at as the nickel LB, but they just paid a LB they see as a 3-down guy, and they play more Dime than anybody.
And Elandon Roberts isn't rehabbing, is he? Unless I missed something, you're going to see Roberts and Queen Game 1, and although you might see Wilson on some third downs, that'll only be when they play 3rd down nickel, which was infrequently the past couple of years, even when they had Holcolmb and Kwon Alexander, both good coverage LBs.

Welcome.
Most in depth Steeler debate and conversation online.
Exactly how much did you win with those OD picks in the SB.
Lol.

It’s funny how some don’t recognize that right off the bat.

It took me a minute. I was going to ban immediately for no reason but he'll give me cause within a few days. Can't help himself.

I never who’s who and who has or had multiple accounts. No time to and don’t care enough to track etc.
But as soon as I read: “ Long time lurker, first time poaster.”
I thought BULLSHIT.

Yeah there were some subtle dead giveaways:

Few hours probably. Actually haven't looked at the other topics yet today. So he's probably already outted himself somewhere.

Don't worry... Ole Lynch won't jizz on too many snowflakes around here.
Sorry you're dealing with that. Have you seen a doctor about it?

I have a hunch this brand new poaster is a big fan of the Frazier, McCormick, and Lee picks as well.

A few things
I like this kid. I saw him on a chart and said man the Steelers could use a guy like this- never suspecting he would land here
1. You were right- Roberts kept injuring that groin and was out frequently but not lost for the season. I want to keep him out of coverage as much as possible
2. Since Shaizer retired we haven't ended the season with the same ILBs we began the season and we have lacked speed there (except that one year Bush actually played like a first rounder)
3. Our Achilles heel since forever (outside of the Shaizer and latter Edmund years) has always been covering a good two way TE- highlighted by that horrific loss to Arizona. I think this kid is long enough and fast enough to cover all but the best route guys.

They've indicated they see Patrick Queen as that guy. Yes, going into last year, I'd have said Roberts was a liability in coverage... but he actually played pretty well in coverage after the other guys went down. Anyway, If they play Queen in place of Roberts and Wilson in place of Holcomb (at least until Holcomb comes back at 100%), AND if they play less dime and more nickel on 3rd downs, then that could be a pretty big upgrade. But I don't think that's their plan.
