Where’s the puke emoji?
Gee, I hope they sign him to a long term deal. Can’t lose ol’ Cam. He’s the Steelers Sidney Crosby.
Mike Tomlin and NHALS - The embodiment of the soft bigotry of lowered expectations.
Corporate welfare. His best days are well behind him. Father Time undefeated.
Hopefully with 2 voidable years

Gawd I hope not.
I hope it's not to lower his cap number so Tomlin can mortgage the future to try and save his job by trading for a high priced WR. That's what I've been waiting for all offseason.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
He's due $16 million salary this year.
2 years. 2024 and 2025
$16 million.
Freeing up $8 million this year

STD's "Low Watt" rants should be directed at Cam. Maybe "Cam the Scam" or "Cam the Sham"? Has there ever been a supposed Hall of Fame caliber player with as few memorable or meaningful plays as Cam? He was on the team for the entirety of the 2010s window and made no difference when it mattered. Sure would have been nice had he made a play in the Jags playofff game in 2017, for example.CoolShades wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 9:57 am

There are probably a dozen Steelers I think merit HoF consideration more than Cam, with Ward and James Harrison topping the list of recent guys. I will feel no enthusiasm whatsoever if he makes it. He was a good player who never made a difference when it counted, not an all time great.

I can’t think of a more “meh” player than Cam “1-7 in the playoffs” Heyward. He is the player equivalent to Coach NHALS. That’s also Cam’s legacy. Captain NHALS. He’s an overrated underachiever.W&M_Steeler wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 8:28 pmSTD's "Low Watt" rants should be directed at Cam. Maybe "Cam the Scam" or "Cam the Sham"? Definitely not an all-time great. I’ve said it before, but Heyward getting into the HOF before LC Greenwood will be a travesty. But we all know he will get in. Before Ward and Harrison also, two guys I’d much rather have on my team than Heyward.

Cam has had some very good years...some great ones too..but he's not a HOFer. His biggest sin if you will is how he's been such a "yes" man for Tomlin and Art 2. I hope they don't reward that.

Agreed
Suwanee, GA's own Cam Heyward considers himself a HOFer.
He isn't.
To have any shot of sneaking in, he needs to go the Calais Campbell route.
Walter Payton Man of Year
Pad Stats
Longevity.
Then pray the committee ignores THE TEAM's abysmal playoff record during his tenure as a Steeler.
All that said,
I hope Cam is not extended.
Money MUCH better spent elsewhere.
Nick Markakis on Astros: "Every guy over there needs a beating."
They should get rid of him and Ogenjobi next year.
Wouldn’t surprise me if they extend Heyward, and of course Tomlin.

This year and last was the OL rebuild...
2023-Broderick, Seumalo, Spencer Anderson
2024 -Fautano, Frazier, McCormick
I expect the next 2 years to be the DL, or at least heavy2025, 2 of the first 4/5 picks.
Should also have some cap room with Heyward and Larry OG a potential $7 million savings on buyout ( $3.5 dead ) if he is not a difference maker in 2024. So potentially $16 CH and $7 LOG = $23 off the books after this year from the DL.
Throw in Leal savings of $1.4 ( 233k dead ) and you are over $24 million off the books at DL after this season.
2023 - Benton,
2024 - 6th round Logan Lee
The Leal, 3rd round in '22 and Loudermilk 5th in '21 have not panned out.
3rd round miss hurts more than the 5th.
I expect the 2025 draft to have DL as a top 2 pick.
With a potential big DL FA signing.

As for '25 DL FAs, the pool is pretty shallow (as of now). Maybe only a total of 3-5 IDL guys that will even be available -- that could fit the bill size/position/snap count/age/impact-wise. Some of those will be re-signed, while a few new names will be added after this year -- via cuts, I guess.
Gonna have to be some seriously, experienced and talented DL draft picks at the top of the '25 draft that can come in and start day one most likely. Rut-roe!
This makes me wonder if Kahn et al see this too and hastily sign Cam to an extension.
2025 draft is very deep in DL. IDL, EDGE and RB if all expected come out.DP39 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 11:19 pmGood stuff, Stosh.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 1:52 pmThis year and last was the OL rebuild...

Don't forget that Loudermilk cost the Steelers a 4th rounder the next draft so that they could pick him in the 5th round.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 1:52 pmThis year and last was the OL rebuild...

Leal has talent, first round according to many scouts. The knock on him were nagging injuries and a lack of effort too often. I wouldn't be surprised if he moves to another team at the end of his rookie contract and becomes a starter. Remember, to this point the Steelers haven't found where he really fits in their idea of defense. Another Tomlin weakness.
I wanted them to use a premium pick on the DL this year but there is only so much to work with so yeah, next year should be a heavy draft for the DL.

The Steelers should trade him to the Saints so he can wear that black and gold, like his dad did. The most successful Steelers playoff run of Cam's career came when Cam was on IR (2016). The Steelers never won anything with him, so no big loss to lose him.
Maybe Tomlin will sit out and pout for an extension too. That way the Steelers can get rid of both of them.
35 year year old Dlineman holding out...
Coming off one of the least product years of career.
Fewset sacks in almost a dozen years.
3 QB hits. THREE.
Fewest of career.
33 tackles in 11 games...
2nd Fewest tackles in a year... not including his first 2 years...in which he had ZERO starts
Madness.
He's been paid well. Real well for 13 years.
Let's see how 2024 goes.
And then based on that...
What offers will he really see at age 36.
I believe he's been paid $115 million in his 13 years?

I’d keep him on for this year at 9 million. Take it or gtfo. If he gets an extension I hope its to reduce his cap hit and void after 1yr. He’s old and over paid.

I think Cam has the right to hold out. I think the Steelers have the right to let him. I would not extend him. We need the money in 2025 for a QB, whether it is Wilson, Fields or a free agent.
This hold out and pouting shit is out of control. It was bad enough when they over paid Johnson. Cam is pretty much done. It will be a miracle if he plays beyond this year as anything more than a rotational guy. I'd cut him. They need to take a stand. If not, it will become standard for anyone to sit out in the last year of their deal.
