Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
Guess that answers the slot CB question (for now).

Wow that’s actually great.
“Thoughts are a waste of time for me.” - Michael Pettaway Tomlin
I mean, he was a billion times worse than Pat Pete last season, but he’s way better than our other options. Problem with the aging downside of career guys is they have 0 motivation to play for vet minimum. Where Sutton’s legal issues may mean he’s nigh broke already and needs the paycheck.
At least a 2-4 game suspension coming I would guess. I understood that he pleaded out of major charges but still, chucked a woman out of a window.
When you see the writing on the wall, you are in the toilet. -- Fred Sanford
So the Steelers “holier than thou”, we want only high character individuals bullshit, is just that…bullshit.
It takes a special piece of shit to smack around a woman.

Well, it answers it after week 6 or 7. Sutton faces a guaranteed minimum suspension of 6 games, as per NFL policy. He may face more punishment for fleeing the scene and evading his arrest warrant for three weeks.

NFL Domestic Violence Policy
A Domestic Violence Policy has been put into effect after the Ray Rice domestic violence incident on August 28, 2014. Commissioner Roger Goodell has lengthened bans to six games for the first domestic violence incident and a lifetime ban for a second incident. This is after the NFL suspended Ray Rice for two games and receiving large amounts of criticism during the process.[75]

I think Tomlin is the ultimate arbiter of all men's characters. He looks them in the eyes. He sympathizes with their situations. (He evaluates team needs). And ultimately he renders judgment.

Okay so I can't find the description that said "unconscious", so let's make it "domestic battery by strangulation", which was the original and official charge. The charge has been reduced to a misdemeanor and he entered a pretrial diversionary program.Jizz Mop wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 4:33 pmIn my George Costanza voice…..”was that wrong?”

So do we believe women on this board or not? Because we didn't in the past. Has that changed? Must've missed that update.
I mean, we've had a long line of pieces of shit on this team. Greg Lloyd, Joey Porter, James Harrison, Big Ben. Just scum-sucking egomaniacs at best and abusive POS or more at worst. Just like any other team.
I imagine all of you will still be watching and cheering them on, so what's it matter?

Just want to say that Joey Porter doesn't belong in this grouping. All of his incidents are the result of drinking and/or bar fights. No domestic issues afaik. Not excusing it, just saying that's a different level of stuff.
Fully agree that this is in no way unique to the Steelers.
Anyway, carry on.
I have a couple thought about this. First, the guys you mention have seemed to turn their lives around. I say seemed because obviously I don't know their personal lives but as far as raising their children and not having any more incidents after their young and dumb stage, it looks like they all turned into to pretty good adults. It doesn't excuse past behavior but it shows that giving people a second chance works a lot of the time. Then you have your exceptions like Brown who the Steelers did not invite back.tbsteel wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 4:57 pmSo do we believe women on this board or not? Because we didn't in the past. Second, all the players are just people with more athletic ability and money than me. I don't expect them to be saints. More like I expect them to be egotistical jerks that have been treated like Gods their whole lives. There have been guys like Vick that I hated becoming a Steeler but that didn't make me stop watching football. Bill Burr said something like "Roger Goodell could punt a baby and I'd still watch". Over the top for affect but he makes a good point. I turn on the game to see the Steelers play, win and hopefully be entertained. I don't want to see the player's background checks or hear their views on politics or religion (which is why I don't watch pregame shows anymore). Let the organization, league and the justice system deal with any off the field issues they have. I'm sure they will sort out any problems with players that would turn me off to the game if they ignored them.

I'm really, really surprised by this signing
IF the team is doing this to help a person through a very challenging time... to give him some income and support...
maybe
but everything I've read about the events makes me feel like- no fucking way should this guy be signed.
I hope every woman that considers themselves a fan, protests this signing.

That’s totally fair. I hesitated including him, but just wanted to point out what a terrible person he was lol.Pabst wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 5:26 pmJust want to say that Joey Porter doesn't belong in this grouping. True story - I was once at a Vegas blackjack table by myself and chatting with the dealer. It came up that I was a Pittsburgh native and he said that he was a table dealer at some event with a bunch of Steeler players from the '05 team. Naturally, I asked about what the guys were like. According to him (from what I remember): Bettis was a great dude. Porter wouldn't shut up, but tipped well. Biggest jackass by a wide margin? Roethlisberger.
Anyway, Porter just strikes me as the friend you have that's fun to hang out with until he has one beer too many....then he becomes a nightmare.
Guilt will do that to you hah.RemoAZ wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 7:08 pmI have a couple thought about this. First, the guys you mention have seemed to turn their lives around. That's why I've always thought Ben was guilty of SA among other things. Dude ran with a quickness to the extreme Christianity and bro-Country lol. Sort of like Shawn Michaels from WWE (outside the bro-Country).
But my larger point was: Cam Sutton is no exception to the norm. We've had plenty of terrible people on the team before him and will so after him. Somewhat unrelated, but our culture in America with sports basically openly promotes extreme narcissism and coddling. Like for JPJ Jr. and his recent comments, we easily accept and in some circles praise him for stating he really believes he's the best corner in the NFL and no one one was doing what he was doing last year, even though in reality it screams egomania, narcissism, and a complete lack of self-awareness. But that's sports. Go team! lol.

Coach Mike likes rehab cases like Cam.

"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
Don't doubt the above hah. It'd make for an interesting documentary if someone put something together on early career Big Ben. Dude was just an absolute terror. I've seen countless stories of people interacting with him back in those days and talking about what a truly awful human he was (and cheap too, which is inexcusable for a pro athlete making what he was). It's hard to have much sympathy for him for the allegations that came out against him, and if anything they were a huge wake up call for him to completely change course with his life. But yeah, now he's Mr. Super Lame Christian and all bro-Country'd out.Pabst wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 9:54 pmTrue story - I was once at a Vegas blackjack table by myself and chatting with the dealer. Still in the top 3 for favorite player of mine. F a moral compass.

If nothing else, he got his shit together and went down a better path. Ben certainly isn't the first young/rich athlete that let fame go to his head. He needed the proverbial slap upside the head.
Edit: Just now realized I skimmed most of your post and basically repeated what you already said. My bad
With you here Pabst...I love Joey Porter, full stop. He is a natural born shit talker no doubt, so the occasional dust up doesn't surprise me, but he backed it up on the field. He's still living rent free in Pacman Jones's head to this day.Pabst wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 5:26 pmJust want to say that Joey Porter doesn't belong in this grouping. Not sure I want to put Harrison in the same bucket either. Though his incident was troubling and the team should have disciplined him, most of his stuff is about on the field drama so maybe his was actually an outlier, versus a guy like Lloyd who is persona non grata with his eldest and ex wife, and seems to be a genuinely troubled man who more likely than not got away with sustained abuse.
Roeth was surely the greatest QB I've ever seen play for this team, but he's neither a smart or good man in my opinion, and after spending an evening watching a bunch of the police witness interviews for Milledgeville it took pretty much the entire length of the rest of his career with the Steelers for me to forgive him.
Coming to Sutton, the whole thing seems bizarro world to me, on the guilt spectrum of us signing Mike Vick on one end, versus the signing of Pokemon scammer Blake Martinez on the other, I don't know where I lie right now. Vet minimum, role player, keeps his nose clean...we'll see.
