The Steelers should draft both Green and Finley on day 3
- Looking more and more likely the Steelers will sign Fields.
- Green is everything you want Fields to be only better in every regard. Not kidding. Probably can be had with one of our 5ths
- Finley is moreso in the Big Ben mold in great ways. Probably can be had with one of our 6ths.
- Fields and the Steelers are going to need good backups. Both Green and Finley can do everything you want Fields to do with relative ease
- The Steelers will get essentially a free 4yr look at some very talented QBs with huge upside for some throwaway draft picks in a year where they most likely have a few too many
- If Fields continues to cement himself as a legit franchise QB that’s great. The Steelers will have 2 QBs as very nice trade bait or absolute worst case comp picks when they leave and sign high $$$$ contracts
- If Fields struggles to reach the next level the Steelers have 2 QBs with every tool you could want to take the reigns
Watch the tape.
If you’re not impressed with Green and Finley as potential great QBs I’m not sure you understand football. Lolololz

What is with TJ Finley transferring every year?
Grades? Discipline? Couldn’t win the job or something else?

In the 5th or 6th it doesn’t matter to me that much for those kinds of tools and potential
Especially at QB for the Steelers right now

Looks like he was arrested at Auburn for some sort of motorcycle chase without a helmet in which the cops decided not to chase.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 4:05 pmIDK ???LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 4:01 pmWhat is with TJ Finley transferring every year?

Then he pulled a Kenny and jetted from Texas State when another QB transferred/recruited to Texas State.
The QB that transferred to Texas State also had some law issues for sexual assault.
So now he is at WK as you already know and is out several weeks with lower leg injury.

He can play football
It’s one of at least 2 and maybe(?) 3 6th round picks
The Steelers need 2 backups even if they sign Fields
Why not grab 2 huge upside QBs with picks the Steelers usually do nothing with anyway ? Particularly in a weak draft ?

I think our current picks for 2025 look like this:
1st
2nd
3rd
(lose our 4th to the Bears if Fields play 51% or more of the snaps on offense, looks to be the case)
5th
5th (extra 5th from the Rams from the Dotson trade)
6th (keep our 6th from the Fields trade since he's playing 51% or more of the snaps)
6th (extra 6th from the Texans from the Green trade)
7th
7th
7th (two extra sevenths from the Eagles for the Pickett trade)
Of the two sevenths from the Eagles, we'll get the 2 most favorable picks from the Broncos, Eagles, Falcons, Saints picks since the Eagles were loaded up on sevenths from other teams apparently.
Now, I believe we'll have both sixths and all three sevenths as I don't believe the pick swap we had with Washington for William Jackson had conditions met for that conditional pick swap (we got Jackson for a conditional 2025 sixth/seventh swap), nor do I think we'll owe to send to Minnesota a 7th for the Jesse Davis trade (conditional seventh in 2025). TBD.
But right now, it looks like 10 draft picks, with 5 picks in the third day. Plenty of lottery tickets to play with.

I'd take a shot at Green in the later Rds. I don't get why some here just want to bury Fields. Dude can ball and is starting to mature as a QB. It can take 3-4 years for a young QB to come into his own (JF had NO help with the Crappy Bears FO & Coaches). Look at the QB we play this Sunday. Richardson is big strong and can move BUT he can't hit the broad side of the barn. He has a 50% completion percentage while JF is around 75%.
Arthur is doing wonders with JF. Kid is going thru his progressions and is now throwing MOF. He continues to get better, with this D can cause some Havoc.

Without agreeing nor disagreeing with your assessment, Taylen Green isn't even 22 yet; if he isn't going to be a top 100 pick, he'll likely go back to Arkansas for another year to improve his status. Finley suffered a pretty significant leg injury of some kind last weekend, so he's also not a lock to come out in 2025.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 3:50 pm- Looking more and more likely the Steelers will sign Fields.

Mainly, unless Fields shows the kind of limitations that make them––not us––doubt his ability to take them to a Super Bowl... developing a rookie backup QB is going to to be far far down the priorities list.
It would have to be a near carbon copy of the Alex Smith in KC situation: we feel like we were thisclose to winning a Super Bowl but our QB just reached the wall of how far he could take us. They had the fifth-best record in the NFL and had a QB who went to the Pro Bowl that year in Alex Smith (who had been a 1st overall pick in the draft and was now with his 2nd team... does any of this seem familiar?). Despite this success, the Chiefs moved up from the 27th pick by sending their 2017 1st & 3rd + a 2018 1st in order to move up to the 10th pick and Patrick Mahomes.
I'd say the only scenario where the Steelers might make such a move is if they have Cam Ward or someone else graded as highly as Patrick Mahomes was for the Chiefs back then AND if Justin Fields does something that indicates he's limited in how high his ceiling. Without BOTH those elements, I think there's next to no chance they don't sign him back and little chance they draft a QB.

- I highly doubt the Steelers are going to move up for a QB. Right or wrong. And I do think it’s wrong. They should.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 9:31 pmWithout agreeing nor disagreeing with your assessment, Taylen Green isn't even 22 yet; if he isn't going to be a top 100 pick, he'll likely go back to Arkansas for another year to improve his status. - I like Green and Finley the little bit I’ve seen. NFL Draft buzz has both of them as UDFAs in the 2025 draft. If they come out this year I’d draft both sooner than that.
- The Steelers are forever absolutely clueless about the QB position. 12 and 7 along with many others can attest to that I’m sure. Lol.
- As far as the Steelers developing 2 rookie QB talents. It is what it is. Meaning the Steelers are forever clueless about the QB position AND will railroad or let walk anyone who does have a clue. Like Arians and Gailey. So IMO why not shoot the moon and draft some huge upsiders if possible ?? Especially with picks the Steelers usually waste on insta-cuts.
- Do I think there’s a good chance this happens ? No. Lolololz. It should tho !!! Zero downside that I can see.

So it’s
1 2 3 55 66 777 as it stands right now
Basically 7 junk picks 1 maybe and 2 that they really need to make sure a) they have a high ceiling and high floor and b) hopefully fill a key position
I really like Barrett Carter and Elic Ayomanor 1 and 2
