Sounds about right.
It'll all depend on the matchup. I think we'd be somewhat respectable against the Chargers for a coin flip game, and would probably beat the Broncos. The Bengals would take care of business against us (just wait until next week for a preview). A team like the Bills or Chiefs would just annihilate us per our usual 40+ point playoff blowouts in recent years.
Those 5 games:
CIN
CLE
PHI
BAL
KC
Do you see 2 wins there? I see one (probably blow out CLE next time). Are they going to outscore CIN? Overcome a solid Ohilly team in their house of horrors? Win the BAL revenge game? Beat KC on a short week?
Not good.
Maybe Philly? They're super talented but that team has been off all year. But then again, Philly tends to own Tomlin.
So realistically, I see a loss next week to Cincy, and ho-hum victory at home against Cleveland that satiates the fans for a bit, but then losses to Philly, Baltimore, and then KC on Christmas. 9-7 going into the last week is definitely possible and seems the most realistic scenario.

If they’re 9-7 going into the last week, they’d better hope they’ve already clinched a playoff spot. Could get really interesting if CIN gets on a bit of a roll.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 5:30 amAt this point, I'll take a 7-seedtbsteel wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 5:15 ambradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 5:09 am

Not if you want see Tomlin humbled.
It's just a shame their record got inflated to be what it was so the fall won't be as bad. We really got lucky with our timing for when we were catching teams. We got Kirk Cousins in his first game back from injury and the dude had cement feet in the pocket, caught the Chargers with Justin Herbert playing on one leg before going out in the second half, caught rookie Bo Nix when his head as opposed to how better adjusted and more comfortable he looks now, were able to feast on Aidan O'Connell for an easy win in a game where we didn't really play that good TBH, and of course the two disastrous New York teams who were both falling apart.
If we were like 6-5 or 7-4, the upcoming fall would look much worse. But the Steelers will get to 9 wins, maybe 10, and are probably pretty well set up for their annual playoff appearance that goes to hell in the first 10 minutes.
I want to get off Mr. Bones' wild ride.

We were the #1 landing spot for about 4 or 5 WRs in the last 6 months.

Horrible play call because Fields doesn’t throw the greatest deep ball but Pickens tried too hard to sell the DPI instead of fighting through contact because the throw was not horrible. The play call and Pickens’ effort were awful. Later Pickens didn’t work back towards Russ when Russ rolled out to his left. Something was up with Pickens. I think the Browns DB’s got in his head.steelmann58 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 4:31 am3-4 and you have Firlds throw deep when you needed 4 yards to seal the game
Do not understand why they don’t throw more to the Outlier. Roll Fields out away from Garrett and get Washington open for a 5 yard gain and keep the chains moving.

Everyone involved is a problem. Tomlin, Smith, Wilson, Fields, it doesn’t matter.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 5:11 amArthur Smith & Mike Tomlin are infinitely more to blame than Russ.
Sure, Tomlin and Smith are the biggest problems. I won’t deny that but everyone on offense had a hand in that loss last night.

Did Russ have Mike Williams standing on the sideline? Did Russ run on every 1st down into a stacked box? Did Russ run 28 times for 84 yards? Did Russ bench himself on 3rd and 4 with the game on the line? Did Russ call zero slants against stacked boxes vs single high?K_C_ wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 11:43 amEveryone involved is a problem. You have to agree he took some bad sacks though.

It's not like his receivers were open. Better to eat it than force it. Part of the risk-averse mindset and shitty playcalls.SteelPro wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 1:18 pmbradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 1:05 pmDid Russ have Mike Williams standing on the sideline? Yeah I think we need to be a bit more analytical when we say “throw it away”.
Obviously the endzone INT last week wasn’t the play. But in the middle of the field when the entire Browns DL is crashing down on Wilson do yall know how difficult it is for him to “throw it away”? That’s not something he’s really ever been good at, he’s 5’10” and he’s been conditioned to not turn the ball over.
If he can escape the pocket and toss it into the stands then great, I agree that is the proper play. But on those sacks last night he’s completely overwhelmed. It was a dreadful performance by our OL, Frazier, McCormick, Seomalu, Moore and Jones to an extent all royally sucked.

Not when it takes you out of FG range. They lost 3 points in the opening drive because he took a sack he shouldn’t have. Note I also said “bad sacks”. Not all are bad. Last night he took 2 bad ones that I recall.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 2:45 pmIt's not like his receivers were open. Better to eat it than force it. He sure didn't put in a winning effort though did he?
This was a game that was BUILT for Najee. True AFC Norff football where a bruising back takes over.
Instead we get less than 4 yards per carry on 16 tries. Warren got like 11 and made it over 4. Harris fucking sucks dick. He and VJ should never be allowed in Pittsburgh again.

Najee runs like his upper body doesn’t know what his lower body is doing, and vice versa. It’s wildly annoying to watch.
Really glad we didn’t pick up the 5th year. There are lots of better backs out there. I don’t care if he’s a Steelers type guy. We need more Warren TBH.

Pittsburgh won the turnover battle (including 2 in the 4th quarter), won Yards Per Attempt (passing), dominated Time Of Possession, had more rushing yards and committed less penalties.
Statistically speaking, any of the above are usually very strong indicators for which team will win a game. All of them combined, there cannot be too many games a season which a team does not come out on top.
Somehow, the opponent still finished with more points last night.

I know it was the Cowher era, but remember the time we held the Houston Texans to 47 total yards and lost 24-7?Steel Bingo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 6:55 pmPittsburgh won the turnover battle (including 2 in the 4th quarter), won Yards Per Attempt (passing), dominated Time Of Possession, had more rushing yards and committed less penalties.

I was thinking of that one...

Here’s the box score from that mess - https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... 080pit.htm it was even dumber than I remembered. Home game. Texans were 3-9 and Cowher was 7-4-1. Three defensive touchdowns for Houston, 300+ passing yard for Maddox, 100+ rushing yards for Pittsburgh (4.1 ypc), and they held the Texans to 47(!) yards on offense, TOP 39:41-20:19 in our favor. 24-3 advantage in first downs. Turnovers, though, 5 to 1 in Texans’ favor.
I was also thinking of the 2006 mess against the Raiders. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... team_stats Total yards 360-98 Pit, TOP 35:30 - 24:30 Pit. Oakland’s giant, Andrew Walter (?) was 5-14 for 51 yards, threw an int and was sacked four times but Ben threw four picks and two were returned for touchdowns for Oakland. 20-13 final. Stillers had a chance to tie after a Joey Porter interception in Oakland’s end with about five minutes left but turned it over on downs after a first and goal from the one. Here was that series of plays:
Willie Parker rush middle no gain.
Najeh Davenport rush right -4 yards
Najeh Davenport false start -5 yards
Ben pass to Hines Ward left for 7 yards
Timeout
Ben pass incomplete middle to Santonio Holmes (defended by Kirk Morrison)
