1) If you can get a 1 3 and another pick of any kind or more you have to seriously consider unloading that player. Unless you are legitimately one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the league with that player or the only other possible exception is the player in question is a franchise QB. There simply comes a point where the draft capital available outweighs future performance. Particularly on a team that is nowhere near a top team.
2) If you can get significant cap relief that’s never a bad thing
3) If you aren’t a legitimate top 3 team ultimately the players aren’t good enough. They don’t make winning plays and they don’t win the important games. Moving on from good not great players is tough but if you don’t do it you won’t get better.
4) Any position except QB beyond 29 is old in the NFL. You can’t hang on to old expensive players just because it’s easy and familiar. This becomes exponentially more important if you aren’t a top 3 team in the NFL
5) Nothing is guaranteed. When you can get multiple players for one player the odds are in your favor every time
