Coaching Movements

So with Smith HC interviews with Chicago and Jesters, the Secondary Coach is being summoned
Do we consider this one of the first of Tomlin's coaching tree limbs? since he came from College prior, that be a yes.......but lets call it what it is
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Falcons will interview Steelers secondary coach Grady Brown for their defensive coordinator vacancy. Brown has spent the last three seasons as the Steelers’ secondary coach and has also spent time as a defensive backs coach and cornerbacks coach at the college ranks from 2010-2019. In 2022, he helped the Steelers finish first in interceptions (22) and also coached Minkah Fitzpatrick to a First-Team All-Pro finish in the same season.
Steelers Bio/Schpeel
Grady Brown is in his third season as the team's secondary coach. He was hired on Feb. 16, 2021.
With the help of Brown, the Steelers defense tied for the NFL lead with 20 interceptions in 2022. Minkah Fitzpatrick was named AP First Team All-Pro for the third time in his career. His six interceptions in 2022 were the most by a Steeler in a single season since 2010 (Troy Polamalu) and tied for 12th-most in a single season in franchise history.
In his first season with the Steelers, Brown's defensive backs combined for 11 interceptions, led by cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon who snagged three picks in just nine games. Fitzpatrick tallied a career-high 124 tackles on the season - his first NFL season with 100+ tackles.
Brown previously served as either defensive coordinator or coached in the secondary at the University of Houston (2021), McNeese State (2020), Old Dominion (2019), Louisville (2018), Alabama State (2017), Birmingham Southern (2016), South Carolina (2012-15), Southern Miss (2010-11) and Alabama State (2002-07). He started his collegiate coaching career as the outside linebackers coach at Alabama A&M (2001).
Brown also held two National Football League minority coaching internships, first with Seattle in 2004 and then with Kansas City in 2007.
During his tenure at South Carolina, Brown helped guide units that finished in the top 25 nationally in both scoring and total defense. The Gamecocks surrendered just 315.5 yards/game, which ranked 11th in the country in total defense in 2012. South Carolina also ranked 13th in the nation in scoring defense that season when it allowed only 18.2 points/game. The Gamecocks improved in 2013 and ranked 12th nationally in scoring defense (20.3 points/game).
Brown's secondary ranked third in the Southeastern Conference and 12th in the nation in pass defense in 2013, allowing 196.2 passing yards/game. South Carolina finished second in the SEC and 13th in the nation in interceptions with 18.
Brown also tutored safety D.J. Swearinger, who was a second round NFL Draft pick in 2013 out of South Carolina and just completed his eighth season in the NFL.
Brown helped lead Southern Miss to a Conference USA Championship in 2011. His secondary ranked fourth nationally in interceptions, seventh in pass efficiency defense, 10th in passing yards allowed/attempt and set an NCAA single-season record with eight interceptions returned for touchdowns.
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Brown played defensive back at Alabama A&M and graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1998.

One tiny sprout doesn’t make a tree. Or even a branch.
The fact Jibbs hasn’t developed a single coach in almost two decades now shows what the rest of the league thinks of what he brings to the table
Wish we could be rid of this franchise wrecking POS.

Ummm, no, interviews don't count as a coaching tree. They actually have to get hired!

More like coaching pollen, it causes high levels of irritation when exposed to it for long periods of time.
Good luck to the guy explaining how it can be possible to decontaminate from Tomlin.

I agree, the end of this season, particularly the last 5 weeks, resembled one giant coaching (bowel) movement.

An interview request is completely different than actually being interested in him. Wait until the Falcons ask him to name the players he has coached in the last 3 years that have gotten better (ascended) in their play, skill &/or abilities.

Is there anyone that comes obviously to mind? It's as if the entire organisation is collecting a paycheck month to month. Is that what frustrated Pickens? Whenever I hear people talking about trading for more and higher draft picks, I always wonder if it would even make a difference. Almost nobody on the team seems to actually get better. It's just a revolving door of draft picks and free agents.

I love Khan & Weidl. I trust Khan & Weidl. I believe signing Tomlin to a 3 year deal last year with a NO TRADE CLAUSE, should be a fire-able offense. Why would anyone, especially a good GM put any clause in any contract for ANY coach that takes away (strips) motivation. Fucking asnine.
However, that no trade clause aside, I like & trust Kahn & Weidl to take the reigns & exort some direction over Tomlin.
If I were Khan & Weidl, I go out today & sign John Gruden (Team Consultant), Robert Saleh (D-Coord), Hines Ward (WR), Mike McCarthy (TE) & someone like maybe a James Harrison as an assistant. Plus I sign any other HARDNOSE, hardass, old school coaches that have years &/or TONS OF EXPERIENCE ( whether I like them or not). Then I go out & find a few of the youngest, up & coming, brightest offensive minds I can find. Turn over every fucking rock, look long & hard. Bring a few young guys to come in & bring their ideas with them.
Force toughness, hard-ass, cut throat, discipline football technique & schemes on Tomlin & into the locker room. MOST OF ALL; it forces a coaching tree on Tomlin, lights a fire under his ass, and SENDS A HUGE MESSAGE to Tomlin, the players & the fans.
Art II, if your not dead or senile: make a FUCKING STATEMENT at the very least. If you can't get rid of him, KICK HIM IN THE ASS. For the love of god.

He also said he believes Tomlin is "the guy to do it". For whatever reason, he still believes in Tomlin. So why would he be concerned about any outs? He has no intention of firing or trading Tomlin. I think, in his head, he committed 3 years to Tomlin taking that next step. There is likely no evaluation of Tomlin until it comes time for his next contract.
Sad part is one lucky/mediocre playoff win, however unlikely, will erase all the chatter and momentum we have toward Tomlin moving on. Even worse, it might buy him another extension.
Another sad part: Tomlin is 11 wins away from passing Noll (he's already passed Cowher)

I think B2B said it best.
Tomlin's philosophy is Art II's philosophy...he thinks this is how the Steelers should play ball.
So to fire Tomlin would be to fire himself.

It sucks, it's like here in Raleigh, everyone wants Doeren gone but he's got the administration on tape or something, he just hangs around chalking up meaningless wins to pass guys that could actually coach, I know it's NC State but we have a passionate fanbase and have had glimpses of almost success.
Anyway, same deal, Tomlin just hangs around racking up meaningless wins, passing by guys he couldn't hold a candle to, while the national media gives him head on the daily.

What if Art II has instilled the same philosophy in Daniel?
All you posters assuming the Rooney in waiting is going to do a philosophical 180 could be in for quite the rude awakening.
Daniel is what 36?
Y’all could be looking at another 40 years of attrition, caveman football.
Art to Dan
Dan to Art
Art to Dan
I’ll be like 93 when Daniel hands over the keys to another Art
Conchita will be changing my diaper and senile me will be all “Gotta find an offensive coach and a franchise qb dammit!”

But he still could be same ol' same ol'

Definitely. He's the heart of Tomlin's offensive strategy!
