18 plays. Nearly 10 minutes. Might be a ball game after all.

Just a really easy group of kids to like all year long, and a bright spot in an otherwise uninspiring 2024-5 football landscape for me.
IU had one loss heading into the playoff. Just one.
It's not sour grapes at all. OSU was absolutely the most talented team in the country on both sides of the ball and their championship was well deserved but that UM game, again, should have been a deal breaker when it came to handing out home games in the CFP.Ice wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:17 amJust saying, however you want to frame it, the folks deciding probably looked at a really close loss against the undefeated #1 team in the country at the time, and wins over PSU and Indiana (both top 10, PSU top 5), who they handled decisively, and a 3 point last second rivalry loss for Ohio and decided it was enough to give them a home game. As a whole body of work, and factoring in the eye test, head to head results and where they were ranked to start the season, both of which always enter into the equation, it's hard to argue. Who gets the 8 seed ahead of them? Tennessee? Would that have made a huge difference? Wouldn't be IU, as the committee clearly valued the head to head results.
Plus, sheesh, best season IU's ever had in football, who knows if it gets repeated? Why waste time on sour grapes?
Trust me, I'm a Pitt alum, and that last great season was a fun enough memory that I rooted for KP on the Steelers for three years.
IIRC Ohio State got the last home seed.K_C_ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:05 amIU had one loss heading into the playoff. Just one.
To #2 OSU in Columbus.
OSU's losses were to #1 Oregon and unranked, 6-5 UM who were, again, missing their best offensive player and their best defensive player and the game was in Columbus. That loss is and was ridiculously bad.
OSU had a few better wins than IU for sure, but IU beat Michigan and beat everybody else on their B1G schedule (and let's not forget that after Ohio State BARELY survived Nebraska and I believe that game was also in Columbus. Indiana a week or 2 later beat Nebraska by like 50 points.)
Indiana most definitely deserved to be in the playoff but probably didn't deserve a home game. I wouldn't argue that.
That loss to 6-5 Michigan on the final game of the B1G season AT HOME most certainly should have put OSU on the road too.
Out of those teams? I'd definitely go with Indiana.jeemie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 6:54 pmIIRC Ohio State got the last home seed.K_C_ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:05 amIU had one loss heading into the playoff. Just one.

Road teams were Tennessee, Indiana, SMU and Clemson.
Which one of those should have gotten a home game over OSU?
OSU might have lost at Notre Dame too. That’s a very tough place to play and didn’t Notre Dame beat the piss out Georgia soon after? They sure did.jeemie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 8:31 pmExcept the results told a different take
Indiana got steamrolled by Notre Dame (game wasn't as close as the score indicates) while OSU ended up beating every team in the top eight at some point this season.
Yeah the Michigan loss was bad but OSU was better than Indiana and it showed.
The #6 Ohio State one point loss to #1 Oregon was at the neutral site known as Autzen Stadium in Eugene, OR, by the way. Showed they were on even footing talent-wise.K_C_ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 7:41 pmOut of those teams? OSU had a loss to #1Oregon (I believe that was at a neutral site) and.....wait for it....to 6-5 Michigan (who was missing it's only offensive weapon, Colston Loveland and it's best defensive player, All American corner Will Johnson) in Columbus.
Yep, I think that Michigan loss AT HOME and when it occurred (final game of the freaking season!) should have been OSU's home field deal breaker.
Great Steelers season to impress the inlaws! Never even thought of it that way. Makings of an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm right there.Steelcody7 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 5:55 pmAs an Ohio State fan I agree that the Michigan loss was awful. That being said, it's a rivalry and Michigan's defense is built to face OSU. It was also only a three point loss and their only other loss was by one point on a "neutral" field to the number one team in the country. OSU would beat Indiana nine out of ten games if they played ten times. Also, watching OSU provided some relief from watching our very vanilla, uninspired and poorly coached Steelers team. I missed two or three Steelers games. Prior to this year I didn't miss watching a Steelers game for literally any reason. I'm so tired of the same old shit from them that I likely won't watch every game next season either. It's like punishing myself every week. I also got married in September so my mother in law was impressed that I agreed to miss a couple of games, lol.
