Long time, no see…

Hey Y’all, some of you know me, some don’t. For those who do, just like the prodigal son, I’ve returned, with some thoughts on how we should be moving forward with this team. Feel free to critique at will. You entitled to your opinions, even if they’re wrong…

Quarterback. It’s an issue. A HUGE issue. Wilson ain’t it. Fields ain’t either. With guys like Heyward in their final seasons, and Watt entering his back 9, we absolutely owe it to them to make every attempt to win, and win now. This isn’t happening with worst of the previously mentioned players. Russ is too limited, and Justin is a project at best. We need to make a move, and big one at that. For my money, that’s Stafford. Hes available, and we need to go out and get him. Kupp too while we’re at it. Put together a package to grab these guys. Stafford can give us a solid 4 more years of play. Kupp becomes the #2, and a mentor for George, and hopefully manage to help this guy become a pro instead of the crashout he currently is.

If we can’t get Stafford, it’s Rodgers. I can’t believe I’m even saying that, because I hate him and his “smartest man in the room” attitude. He’s a whack job, but he can still do more than either Wilson or Fields. If it’s him, that necessitates us drafting a developmental guy who can sit behind him for a year or two. For me, that’s Jaxson Dart. We’ll have to move up to insure it, because he ain’t lasting to 21. It’ll take a Devin Bush level of aggressiveness to get it done. After that, we go get Davante Adams. Same reasons, familiarity with the QB, and mentorship for the Crash Test Dummy.

If we’re rocking with Fields, which is a colossal mistake, we may as well trade Watt & Minkah, and cut Heyward. Accrue the draft capital, and start the rebuild. We won’t be a threat to take advantage of them before it’s too late, and may as well look towards the future. In this instance, I’m trying to swing a trade for Joe Milton, and maybe attempt a trade up for Tetairoa McMillan. Same deal, Devin Bush style aggression in securing that pick. Fields will need all the help he can get, and even that IMO, won’t be about, but it’s an attempt.

The quarterback needs to happen before anything else does. Were running out of time for one of the, if not THEE greatest defensive player in Steelers history. We owe it to him to give this team a real shot….🤘🏽

The only good thing is if he brings Adams with him

Hey Ron...best pizza is still Vincent's pizza park, north Braddock. Frank Pepe's in New Haven is damn good, but not as good as Vincent's.

Nice thoughts, but none of your suggestions will happen.

Cuz we do what we do...

Welcome back Ron.

I’m with you on your entire post of QB’s etc, the need and all.

I just ultimately feel none of it matters with Rooney and Tomlin and running this inept, embarrassing offense.

It’ll be more of the same. Ball control, TOP, live in our fears of the middle of the field, keep it close, win in the 4th.

You could bring Mahomes here, Steelers ain’t winning shit until Tomlin is gone and the approach to offense dramatically changes.

Thanks for the welcome back, fellas…anyways, I hear you about Tomlin. Many may remember I was early to that party of never having liked him. I saw through the slick talk and Ray-Bans. He’s extremely limited, when it comes to X’s & O’s, and his game management is even worse, but he ain’t going anywhere. So, all we can do is hope Omar is smart enough to know he has to go all in on these next few seasons. We have to act like we want to win, instead of simply trying to tread water.

That being said, if people want Tomlin gone, there needs to be an in stadium, unified and concerted effort on making their feelings know. What I did learn from the year before last, was that when the fans really got on Canada, it became an untenable situation, and Tom was forced into acting. This shows the power of the fans have. If the fans could somehow unify and make every Sunday miserable that that man is coaching, one of two things will happen. He’ll resign, or Rooney will act. Fans need to take a lesson from past players throughout the league and realize they hold more cards than they think.

Agreed. Nothing happened until the booing became so media driven it spanned into other states, leagues etc sort of like a mob mentality. I’m stuck on if the problem is more Fraudlin or Rooney. Aviators sucks, but is he running Rooneys offensive philosophy?

If we get a new coach and Rooney is still hanging on, is it more of the same?

El Prez is a dope when it comes to pizza, Ron. Too focused on "under carriage" and shit like that. Goes to Pittsburgh and doesn't even go to Vincents cuz the pizza doesn't come in a box.

Oh...driving back from NYC last weekend, did notice on I-95, "welcome to Connecticut...home of the pizza capital of the United States"

No current Steeler is the team’s GOAT on defense. That’s Joe Greene. Watch the 1974 AFC Championship Game.

Absolutely true. And a very close second is Jack Lambert. No current Steeler on defense is in the top 5.

Always good to see ya, MJG! Does bring up an interesting question of where do you slot Watt among Steeler OLB greats? I like Heyward a lot (warrior, and a Buckeye), but he's well outside top ten. Fitzpatrick MIGHT be a top five franchise safety. 34 vs 43 muddies the waters a little bit, but Harrison (trophy and just objectively my favorite Steeler defender of my generation), Porter (trophy) and Lloyd (played in SB30, and, well, he's Lloyd) I'd take first, even out of just 34 guys but that's just me.

Breaking the Steelers sack record gets you ranked ahead of the Ol' Kong of Dong, so Watt's got that going for him.

As far as just OLBs, I would put watt behind ham and Harrison but tbh, ahead of both Lloyd and Porter

Hi Ron. I'm glad to see your posts. Your analysis was/is always exceptional. If FC, as well, could make his way back - it could bring us back to the best of days. Meanwhile, although you were repeatedly chastised for it, if my memory serves me well - you were not just early in your dislike of Tomlin but the first & warned us of the deep hole the Steelers were in with MT as head coach. I never shirked from reminding everyone that you were the first to see right through him that while almost universally condemned then that you were dead-on. Many here owe you an apoIogy for that. I owe you an apology for something else but they were different times here or was it there. I hope you stay.

Porter was such a vocal leader on that '05 championship team... the voice of that D, and played in and won a bunch of playoff games... I could entertain the argument over Lloyd, and over Porter as a regular season player, but taking everything into consideration, give me Peezy. 20 years later, I still remember JP. Will I remember Watt in the same way?

Yeah, I struggled with putting TJ ahead of peezy. As you said, emotional leader during that SB run...still seeing him sacking manning in the playoff win at Indy. And then all the shit he said...."Joey....Jeremy," "they shot me in Denver" and so much more. And in my estimation, the coup de gras, beating bengals in 2015 playoffs thanks to peezy, as a fuckin coach, drawing a personal penalty. Just classic!!

Underratedly great Steeler at this point. This current team could use more of what he brought to the room and the field.

No edge or nastiness on this team outside of B Jones

I couldn't do it for the same reasons you pointed out above. My all time OLB ranking would be: Ham, Harrison, Porter, Russell, Lloyd, Watt. They each brought unique skills to the table, and of course, Ham and Russell played in a much different system that didn't require as much pass rushing in general. I also think Andy was much better than most remember and he played very well in quite a few post-season games, a quality I use to rank these.

Was one of a handful of pre-Noll survivors. He was great to listen to as a narrator on the NFL films accounts of 70s Steelers. My fave was the game in Philly where Mean Joe took the ball, tossed it into the stands and stormed off the field. Precipitating that episode, the ref asked Russell to talk to Mean Joe. As described by Russell.

Ref: "captain russell, can you talk to Mr. Greene?"
Andy: "I don't THINK so!!"

Ice, sounds like your Uncle Bill knew his football. Andy was always one of my favorites also, from way back when he first came on with us in the 60s.

Swiss, absolutely LOVE that quote from the America's Game! When watching it with a group a few years ago, who were not familiar with the Steelers or the legacy, and most of them howled their heads off at that line.

Remembering Captain Andy today as he passed away a year ago on the 29th of Feb, leap year. He was a helluva player, smart as a whip, always knew where to be and what to do, and he was also a great student of Noll. He bought in early on and he was a disciple from that point on. And as you said, Swiss, he was a great storyteller about those glory days. Ray Mansfield is another I miss greatly, Old Ranger, as he was also a really great storyteller.
