Rooney Presser
Re: Rooney Presser
DO WE GET COMP?
I'm a lawyer. It all depends on the contract. Three likely possibilities:
1. The Contract Tolls: That means the Steelers will always own his rights whenever he comes back....even 20 yrs from now because he never worked out his last year.
2. The Remaining Year must be extinguished: In this case, he'd be free after 2026.
3. Both the Option Year and Remaining Year must be extinguished: This I think is the most likely version of the contract. He's free only after 2027.

If he really thinks they've always been in contention, is he going to be open to a young guy in interviews who says that he thinks they need to tear it down to build it back up?
There's a small core of talent there that I absolutely think better coaching can help build into the next real contender...assuming they find their franchise QB.
Now for that, they are going to have to be unconventional and maybe look later rounds.
Which is why in another thread, I mentioned Nussmeier from LSU.
I haven't followed college much, but all accounts are that he has the tools and was highly thought of until the torso injury derailed his season this year.
For that reason, he may fly under the radar.
I stand willing to be corrected by those that actually follow college football, however.
You can argue what you want, but there's not a lot of young talent on this team outside a couple of guys in the trenches who MAY become something. A few good role players maybe. Joey Porter Jr. etc.
You want a guy who wants a 4-3 because he thinks it's better suited for the future? Maybe he doesn't think some of those front 7 guys are suited for it or maybe Art II thinks such a transition would delay "contending." Are you going to pass on a coach because he's like hey Watt doesn't fit my defense at this stage of his career.
Care to explain the eye roll?
Do you trust Art to make the right decisions regarding the team or Khan regarding personnel?
Weidl is the only true “football” guy at the top of the org chart and he’s the only non-homer non-yesmen
So unless they bring in some other Sr executive to provide guidance - I’m concerned that we end up with Tomlin regime 2.0
Edit: I typed this prior to watching arts press conference
My take away from his comments and the initial list of candidates. They are lining up make me feel a bit better about their choices moving forward.
I still hope they keep Weidl though

If Danny’s in the room for interviews then perhaps a succession plan is in motion

I was pleasantly surprised to hear Dan will be sitting in on the interviews. Not exactly sure what Khan contributes to the proceedings from a football standpoint, though. Anp is right, it'd probably be better if Weidl was representing the GM's office in that capacity.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

Baltimore Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti explained the decision to move on from John Harbaugh, citing repeated late-game issues and saying the team “underperformed” relative to its playoff expectations:
“We led the league in giving up leads in the 4th quarter. It's not something that winning organizations do. We have underperformed based on our season in the playoffs. Very disappointing."

Danny really is our only hope. Watching that presser you could see how completely out of touch Art 2 is. He simply looked like he had no clue how to approach (or even face) a rebuild to make us champions again. He also was WAY too dismissive of the innovation question.
Danny....pls pls pls get in Pop's ear.

I have to believe Bisciotti recognizes that a fair amount of the teams failure to hold significant leads in all of those games is in large part, a reflection of his quarterback
I suspect that he also realizes or at least believes it’s easier for him to find a high-quality coach, then to find another top-tier quarterback
So at the end of the day he went with the quarterback

I fear Deuce is going to fuck up the moment I’ve been waiting for for over a decade
The hiring of our 4th coach since 1969.
If (when) Art fucks this up I will be dead by the time it is ever made right.
Ohhh the anticipation

On the bright side, if Dunce Rooney fucks up this next hire and younger Dan wasn’t on board with it he could easily replace said coach when he takes over.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 3:53 pmMan, begging Art’s kid is kinda where I’m at too.franco32 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 1:30 pmDanny really is our only hope. Trying to be glass half full about this given if I had to bet I’d bet that Dunce Rooney is too much of a coward to hire an offensive minded coach and let them do their thing.

I don't really see any actual evidence or anything even indicating evidence that anything that happened was a result of her sexual orientation or gender. The idea that she wasn’t paid because she’s a dyke seems more than a little absurd

100% valid, and smart, interview approach. Which is why you're laughing at it. That's basically asking a guy what he needs on his roster and how he gets there. Maybe if they had asked Tomlin that question way back when.....SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:58 pm“Part of the discussion with candidates will be our roster and how they view our roster, what they would do with our roster, and making sure we’re all comfortable with that plan,” Rooney said.
HC and GM need to be on the same page identifying talent and knowing what fits the scheme. So what they think of the roster and what they would do is like a REALLY FUCKING IMPORTANT question to understand how your HC and GM are going to work together.
That question is basically everything. What's your philosophy, what's your approach, what players do you need and how far away is the roster from that.
