Steeler known interview lists
First coaching interview request is Nate Scheelhaase, maybe young offensive guy is a possibility, per Scheffter.

Wow...this is out of the box thinking. A passing game coordinator for HC. I like their open-mindedness in this regard.
The Los Angeles Rams assistants are in demand for head coach interviews this offseason.
There have already been 11 requests made to interview Sean McVay's top men, including defensive coordinator Chris Shula, offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur and passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase.
Another team has emerged in need of a new head coach: The Pittsburgh Steelers. Following the departure of Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh will be looking for its next head coach for the first time in almost two decades.
Despite all of that history, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport speculated that Pittsburgh could look at someone with limited coaching experience: The Rams' Scheelhaase.
"Kind of fits the mold of Mike Tomlin, but on the other side of the ball, a dynamic personality," Rapoport said of Scheelhaase. "Someone that Sean McVay feels is going to be a future head coach. A bit of a wild card, someone who a lot of people aren't sure is ready, but someone who they believe eventually will be a great head coach.”

Scheelhaase is only 35-years-old and has just two seasons of NFL coaching experience. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Illinois, where he played quarterback, before working his way up from position coach to offensive coordinator at Iowa State from 2019 to 2023. He's been with the Rams since 2024, first as an offensive assistant and passing game specialist and then as a passing game coordinator in 2025.
While his coaching experience might be limited, Scheelhaase's young age wouldn't be unprecedented for Pittsburgh to hire him. Tomlin was 35 himself when he became the Steelers head coach in 2007 after just one year as the Minnesota Vikings' defensive coordinator. Tomlin, though, had coached in the NFL for five seasons before taking on that role in Minnesota.
Scheelhaase's name is getting a lot of attention regardless of whether he gets a head coaching gig this time around. Depending on what happens to LaFleur, he could earn himself a promotion in L.A. if he sticks around.
https://theramswire.usatoday.com/story/ ... 179546007/What happens next will have to wait, though. While in-person interviews cannot be conducted until next week, virtual interviews are allowed ahead of the divisional round game against the Chicago Bears.
"Tomlin has never appreciated the role of scheme and play call in the ability for player's to execute" Kodiak.

Another good one. I like Shula. They are looking in the right places.StillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 6:59 pmAdd Chris Shula to the list per Scheffter

Shula as HC and Scheelhaase as OC could be a good combo.

Shula is a DC...he won't move laterally. HC for Shula and OC for Nate would be promotions for both.Greeksteel wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 7:35 pmOr vice versaStillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 7:30 pmShula as HC and Scheelhaase as OC could be a good combo.

If you hire a offensive guy you need to find a good quality DC

The Steelers have submitted an interview request for Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver, per source.
Weaver, who faced the Steelers for years as a player and a coach for the Ravens, has a chance to become the next leader in Pittsburgh.
I have to try to get over the fact that Scheelhaase looks like he's 16
No- you don't jump from passing game coordinator to head coach...yuo can't trust that.Greeksteel wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 7:35 pmOr vice versaStillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 7:30 pmShula as HC and Scheelhaase as OC could be a good combo.
I'd be fine with this combo...give Scheelhaase his break as OC.
We don't have a franchise QB yet so what success we are going to have on offense going forward is absolutely going to depend on scheme and coaching.

I don't get the Weaver interest. Dolphins have looked really bad to me. I know there are a lot of factors, but nothing jumps out at me as impressive there.Greeksteel wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 7:59 pmDianna Russini

I already stated in a different topic that my preference is the Shula/Steelhaase combo. Tomlin himself was only a 1 yr DC with the Vikes wasnt he? Point is dont box yourself in to a theory or idea, if someone is the right guy hes the right guy.
Nate could just stay put and become OC when Matt LaFleur gets a HC gig.franco32 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 7:41 pmShula is a DC...he won't move laterally. Curious if we plan to interview him as well

We smoked the Dolphins but other than that horrible mistackle event on DK Metcalf’s touchdown they tackled quite well that game.franco32 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 8:03 pmI don't get the Weaver interest. Looks like they are going to cast a wide net.
Well sorry @Steelperch ...based on this early list, Art is going with what he wlays goes with...young defensive assistants.

If we can get Scheelhaase as well, i am on board.
I didn't know anything about him until about 30 minutes ago.
I have seen nothing about him I don't like.
He's the translator of McVay's offense into something the players can understand.
If he can be a strategist as well, that is awesome!

We certainly have the Rooney Rule covered. Now we just need a few more offensive minds on that list. I want us to cast a wide net.

If they go with a DC they should at least grab a DC who has been part of an innovative offensive system (so he knows what it takes to build) and has access to top offensive minds. In other words, if you must hire a DC, make it Shula
Scheelhaase won't come unless the Rams OC stays put.jeemie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 9:01 pmIf we can get Scheelhaase as well, i am on board.
