Weidl to interview with Falcons
In the long string of stupid things Rooney has done lately, making Andy Weidl the assistant GM instead of the GM might top the list. Now he’s free to interview for other jobs, and the Falcons are bringing him in. I view him as the one bright spot in the front office.
Oh shit. He understood talent evaluation. Had some good picks with the Eagles and us. Let's hope this Falcons thing falls apart.

Knew it was just a matter of when and not if….
Kahn was a complete we-love-the-smell-of-our-shit pick for GM at a time when the organization desperately needed an outside voice to come in and breathe new life into things.
Weild coming in as the "assistant" was a compromise. But the way Art II does things they are going to be stuck with the internal hire who is in over his head as a GM and let the guy who is probably more qualified as a talent evaluator walk.

Doubt they'd do it, but leaves a nice opportunity to let the new coach discuss a candidate he'd be comfortable with. The Rams have been doing a lot with a little from a draft standpoint for a few years, for instance, considering their reported interest in Shula.
But we all know it's going to be Kevin Colbert's kid or something worse.

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

I'm not going to lose my little mind if the Steelers lose Weidl, but it would be interesting to see what he could do without Tomlin putting in his 5 cents.
No, I won't miss whiffs like Roman Wilson, Kaleb Johnson, and my guy Broderick Jones.
But who knows if those picks were actually Tomlin driven.
K-H-A-N (he's not a wiener) is my problem.
Bean counter needs to be on his merry way.
I want a reset in the front office.
The roster has been stagnant and uninteresting for a LONG time.
Is little Colbert buddies with little Danny Rooney?
McCarthy as HC and Colbert's kid to Assistant GM?
That's NOT the happy post Tomlin new beginning I was hoping for

They should have made Khan Pres of personel and Weidl the GM a while ago.

Well that sucks. And the only reason we're talking about McCarthy possible becoming HC is Khan/McCarthy know each other from their New Orleans days.
Khan is utterly replaceable. By all accounts, just a numbers guy. I think a few on this board could do that job, the lawyering part of contracts aside.
If they lose Weidl and talent acquisition is left to Khan, that's not good. I think Kahn is fine for what he does, but your GM needs to be an actual football guy and not a lawyer that works for a football team.

Temporarily make him Assistant to the General Manager.
Finally retired: 31DEC25
He finally quit: 13JAN26
He finally quit: 13JAN26
Isn’t that his current position?

Look at you: member of the honor roll, assistant to the assistant manager of the movie theater. I'm tellin' ya, Rat, if this girl can't smell your qualifications, then who needs her, right?
Harrison spoke about this on that dopey podcast he does with Haden. I'm sure Omar spent a lot of time trying to learn all aspects of the job from Colbert and I don't want to dismiss that entirely. He was around for a LONG time. But it speaks volumes to me that no other organization gave him a shot and he interviewed repeatedly..Kodiak wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 2:28 pmKhan is utterly replaceable. I don't know much about Omar, and he might be a great guy, but he's not a good speaker. That has little to do with evaluating football players or structuring contracts, but he certainly comes across as a bit of a dope.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 6:49 pmHarrison spoke about this on that dopey podcast he does with Haden. You have assholes like Kaboly floating an "in-house" option to replace Weidl. Some guy Khan brought over from Chicago who he knows from his past stint in the Saints over two decades ago but seems to be buds with.
Just the sort of nepo hire I'd expect of the Steelers. A guy who would probably be a yes-man to khan and has been taught the now broken "Steelers way."

Yeah i don’t know what kind of salary a guy like Kaboly pulls down to spew captain obvious takes like “the Steelers are going to promote from within.”
I guess stating the obvious is better than stating the impossible.
Any idiot like me can pick up his phone and type the Steelers should hire the Shula/Scheelhause duo and then bring in Rams GM Les Snead with them to be the Steelers President of Football Operations.
It’s such a waste of thought to think in any other box than the Steelers will do things their way.
Yeah
Their way SUCKS

nobody wants steelers staff
Good news for the Steelers
Interesting. I wonder if they decided Weidl doesn't have the finance/legal chops (the role Kahn supposedly fills)?
Good news. I think Weidl is a good talent evaluator and not a position we wanted to have to fill with everything else this year.

Weidl sucks
Can’t think of anything he did well
The football team might have 10-15 guys who are worth something
About 10 of those should be traded for draft capital
EVERYONE EVERYTHING else black n gold sucks until further notice

He did pretty damn well in PHI.
Let's see how he looks with an actual NFL staff that can develop players. Tomlin turned so many quality draft picks to shit.

...even Teryl Austin got a sniff from the commanders
No they aren't part of a "coaching tree" but these
Assistants are grinders and probably most of them will end up on others staffs elsewhere.
And I'm pretty jazzed we're keeping Weidl. The Khan artist needs a right hand man that has some sense of how to measure and evaluate talent.
