How did Jarvis and Shazier look yesterday?
Didn't really notice their play on the field, for better or for worse.
Shazier had a couple tackles.
Jones decoyed and provided faux pass rush like an all-pro.
Evident by zero tackles, zero assist, and zero sacks.
This new roll for ROLB in our defense will boost the stats of others and make Jones an easy sign when contract two rolls around.
A win win if you will.

i think Shaz was on the field and made a tackle on at least one third and long play.........
and to me, on that play...looked like he came up a bit hobbly?....not sure if anyone else saw that.
Vince Williams is getting better and better the more field time he gets. Looks a bit slimmed down as well...........which may be the reason he is looking faster.
I also believe alot of his speed comes from the shoulders up.
There was a video of him makeing atackle in the Cincy game........that shows a pretty amazing burst to the ball............i will find it and stick it back into this post.
I thought Jarvis was gonna return down to Georgia and make some plays...........
Did not have any impact plays..........or tackles, assists, or sacks.
I don't know how or who credits players with hurries...........but he did push his guy back into the pocket on a couple of plays.
He did hold up nicely vs the run........as i thought more damage was done running up the middle and to the right.
I'm hoping for more out of him the next two weeks......as he gets healthier.
Have to be concerned with our pass rush. I still think we can do more with personnel and packages to get more hits, hurries and sacks.
Maybe Harrisons time off will be our answer to boost the pass rush.
On the other hand...........these next two weeks are against QB's and teams that want to get the ball out of their QB's hands real quick.........so i do not see the PS finishing the season going on a sack spree.
What i am hoping for is a healthy Shaz, Jones and Harrison.........teamed with Timmons, Williams, Spence and Worilds...............will provide us with a very deep and versatile LB corp that can help negate that quick passing game of KC and Cincy.
Worilds has done a nice job against the pass to his side, Timmons and Williams have been swarming to the underneath stuff............and now hoping Shaz will get to display his speed in the next few weeks.

Jervis isn't supposed to provide pressure, so he's right on pace for a sweet Cortez/Gilbert level extension.
We're just lucky Jervis is on our side.

No sacks, but Williams, Heyward, Jones and Woirlds all got hits on Ryan. Heyward probably had a half dozen pressures- several thanks to Jones crashing inside.
I would say the best defensive players yesterday were Heyward, Gay and Williams. Williams in particular made alot of plays per snap.
I only noticed a few snaps from Shazier. Not much to judge on. But I would like to see a more situational approach to his snaps the rest of the way- mostly rushing from the edge or inside in packages, spying the QB, maybe manning up with a TE or slower slot receiver.

I have a hard time understanding the point of hating the players on the team you love.

This. Williams has been phenomenal the past 2 games. Do you think he has any shot playing OLB? I like the bulk he's added and he does seem to have a pretty good burst.

I did not see any hits from Jones. Closest I saw him get was sticking his hand in the air a couple of times when he couldn't beat an OG/OC inside and one time where he got there late on a play where the OL let him go after a beat-- screen pass.
Again, we're not judging Jarvis's entire career course by yesterday but objectively he was no more than JAG yesterday.

That's what KC and SteelBack do.
They would rather see them fail and be right than win..

All I thought he was yesterday was OK. PFF credited him with the hit, the play that stands out to me from memory was shoving the G into Ryans lap on a third down play. He only got around 35 snaps...a little bit better then last week.
I don't hate Jones at all. Was hoping for a big game yesterday.
I guess I feel bout Jones the way a spoiled rich kid feels when his daddy tells him he got a new Porsche for his birthday.
He runs outside expecting to see a shiny new 911 only to find a 914 sitting in the driveway.
0-60 in 12.5 seconds just ain't getting it done...

I noticed Spence and Williams mostly. Shazier did have a nice stop on their TE I think for a minimal gain. Does that answer the OP? Also saw Thomas make a great play on ST's as gunner. Sure glad they traded up a future 3rd RND pick for him. A positive contribution even if he can't play defense. Personnel has become a detriment in specific positions and its killing this teams opportunities. /rant

Ask IC about Cotch, Nate Washington, Isaac Redman.
He'll likely give you a really in depth explanation.

Not sure why you bring me into this, and its pretty easy to see you don't like Jervis because I'm a fan.
For the players you mentioned, if you didn't shove them down everyone's throat I probably wouldn't have been so critical. You acted as if the Pittsburgh Steelers were incapable of winning without them. You talked many times about Cotchery being a better Steeler than Hines Ward.
They were all JAG. Role players, nothing more. They weren't even starters on 8-8 team.
Mr. 10 TD Cotchatron caught his first TD yesterday. You must be proud. Don't see anyone comparing him to Emmanual Sanders this year

I don't understand the hate for either Jones or Shazier.
Both seem to be "team" oriented players with excellent work ethic.
I believe both will be very good players for the Steelers as we move forward.
Jones will never be Deebo. I will probably die before we have another Deebo.

Luckily, you might see another Lambert, Ham, Russell Lloyd, Nickerson, Kirkland, or Porter. Or, just maybe, someone completely different. Probably someone completely different.
I agree with your point on Jones and Shazier, by the way.

Many on this site complained over and over that we did not get value with Timmons.
Well they were wrong. Timmons is a beast. Never complains. Just hits like a MFr.

Shazier had two nice tackles. He only played 4 snaps on defense. Much like the offense scoring 4 times in 7 possessions, I'd say that is a pretty damn good batting average. The kid is still working his way back.

That all started when Reavis, out of Pitt, was seemingly snatched from under the Steelers noses, but Tomlin had gone on record, I believe, in saying he would have drafted Timmons. I remember defending Timmons on this board as far back as '09. Others who have been, IMO, unfairly chastized were Larry Foote and William Gay.
Shazier made a great pursuit play after Ryan tucked the ball and left the pocket. He was on an outside rush on the opposite side of the play and really flashed some speed.

I think that's just covering. He praised Revis out the wazoo in the predraft press conference, to the point where Kevin Colbert was visibly annoyed with him.
Unless you think that was an elaborate act to dupe the Jets into drafting a superstar DB...

I must've missed that Jeems....shows how much I watch the draft. That said though, alot of criticisms of Timmons on this board over the years seem to have been premised on the Steelers not moving up to draft Reavis.

I dont remember that. The C2 performance seemed suspicious and he never became a HOF guy but he's always been plenty steady. His contract though has been on the high side for his performance. All in all though considering others signed he has been better value. Then again look at who he is compared to for value. Waldo Woodley as an example. that was a waste.
Jones will never be Deebo.
And that's not the issue.
Issue is that Jones is still looking up to Carlos Emmons or Steve Conley.
