Could be why they are scouting 1st and 2nd round WRs as much as they are.

He was the best WR in football last year and is entering the prime of his career. I'd want to be paid like it too.

Hopefully the riff raff of the fan base doesn't completely turn against him.

Can't say I'm surprised. Can't say I wouldn't do the same if I was in his shoes

This could get very interesting. The Steelers have Brown by the balls for the next 3 years. All he can do is hold out of camp and get fined which would become a big distraction to the team. Maybe the Steelers extend a couple of years onto the end of his deal to keep him in town for the length of Ben's contract. Maybe they trade his ass to KC for Justin Houston just to again prove the point they wont be held hostage by a diva WR.

I smell a bump in pay and about 2 year extension coming as well. You can't spend that much money on Ben and have this type of distraction.

MORON YINZERS make stupid statements like "What's a few million?", I'd gladly take less..." etc. and and so on! The reason they can say that is they aren't being offered anything to turn down. If it's you it makes sense that you'd fight for every penny you could get. I don't blame anybody for doing stuff like this. This makes me respect him more not less, because he's doing what I'd do.

If true, Brown's a smart dude.

Mike Wallace went diva when he was in the midst of a performance SLUMP.

Brown's (potentially) going diva while his performance is peaking.

Use some of that new found cap to up his pay and extend him. Plus I think Lamarr comes off the books next year anyway. Brown has earned enough of my respect that I'm not going to turn on him over this. Hines Ward held out too and he's beloved by the fan base

one thing this does is: if they acquiesce to AB's not unreasonable argument that he's severely outplayed his contract, then Lev Bell's agent is immediately on the line, followed by Kelvin Beachum's demand for top 15 LT money.

I'd trade Brown for Justin Houston in a minute and twice on Tuesdays.

Question is- would the Chiefs do that?

Brown is at least on C$2...I would take a dim view of Bell and Beachum doing this when they are on C$1s.

Everyone knows football teams get a premium on their rookie contracts...it's how the world works.

But I know you are right and they would do this.

Let him sit out camp... He is under contract and the Steelers should not feel pressured into anything with him. If they want to make a trade with someone fine but other than that be ready to pay your fines AB.

I would also-- and I love AB.

Is it holding out on your rookie contract that was set up as a standard by the CBA even possible?

No Lev Bell, like Russell Wilson are LOCKED IN. New CBA contract FORBIDS teams from altering rookie deals.

Well, that blows. He signed a contract. We can't he just live up to the damn thing? I was hoping beyond hope that AB would see a C3 with the Steelers. If he goes, the offense is going to suffer big time.

And no way on the green earth can the FO allow a precedent like this to be set.

When he signed the contract, he gave up maximizing income for some security. Now, he wants to maximize income... I get the team can cut him so maybe it is fair... But in this case Brown looks bad.

And now you will draw the ire of Nick79. Lucky us, we'll get to see the board cluttered with thousands of posts about him "getting his"

Doubt highly he crashes and burns. I'm going to hope they can come to an agreement. If not, boot his ass. I say that with immense pain. FO cannot be held hostage like this.

I don't see the downside here for the Steelers. A great WR in his prime is locked in for a few more years at a good price. If said WR doesn't like it, he shouldn't have signed the deal. Get a better advisor.

What it might do is make Colbert's phone ring with some interesting trade proposals. Would you trade a seemingly disgruntled AB for a young defensive playmaker plus a high draft pick? Depending on the player and the pick, I'd think about it.

No way in hell will anything in the draft end up as good as AB. WE WON THE FUCKING LOTTO WITH THIS KID.
