We need to rebuild our secondary right

Post by Legacy User » Sat May 02, 2015 9:41 am

Every year at draft time of late I see some moves that leaves me scratching my head. This year is no different.I'll admit I don't have the time or inclination to watch countless hours of tape of college players who are NFL caliber players. My biggest concern this year is picking a WR in round 3.Do we really need a WR over a CB or safety at the 3rd? We're stocked pretty good in the wideout department.I get that AB on C3 might be a bit pricey.I get that we're very good at picking WR in the middle to late rounds.Perhaps that's part of what's going on here we're victims of our success. We need help on the D side, it's way more pressing than the O.When the Ravens chose the TE I was relieved , now we can get a CB. We need another CB besides the Ole Miss guy. The PS have not shown to be adept at drafting secondary under Mike Tomlin.I realize he coached DB's and like MT but he has to get some guys back there who can play.Otherwise you can score 50 and still lose.Ignoring the D backfield reminds me of how they neglected the O- line for years.Just my opinion but if anyone feels differently with some logic to back it up I'm all ears.I don't get it.

we're going to get another good CB and a great safety... BPA/patience is good strategy. Don't panic.

The easy answer here is that they like their current crew of DBs a lot more than we realize. They like Willie Gay. They LOVE Mike Mitchell! They haven't folded on Cortez, his problems seem to be more a head thing...lack of confidence/trusting his ability, than his ability itself. They believe Shamarko will eventually get it...they like their depth.
It may be a fools trust, but I honestly believe that's how they look at it.

And I think B2B is spot on...a solid safety, and another corner coming on board this afternoon.

I don't think they are nearly as worried about the defense as we are.

According to Lake, Mike Mitchell played with two bad groins and Cortez also had a lower body injury. He also said that he expects Shamarko to be a dynamic player.
Hope he is right we'll see.

The last year we had a Pittsburgh Steelers defense was 2010.

For the 4 years since then, we have either sucked or been average in sacks, and we have sucked in TO's.

Colbert and the coaches are very aware of the 4 straight years of having a toothless clawless defense. They went 6/2 defense over offense. They went pass rush with the 1st rounder and targeted ball hawks for the secondary... the teeth and claws we have been missing.

I agree, but don't necessarily think they are wrong. The last 4 years they drafted an offense that would be relatively young during Ben's last half career life. Now they are building a defense. The more I think about this I am ready to drink the koolaid again
