Post by Legacy User » Thu Sep 10, 2015 6:02 pm

Been waiting for news on this for a couple of days... they only have 6 hours to get it done. Let's make it happen!

Solder just got paid... an extra $9M/yr for the next two years. Goes to $9M+ this year, over $10M '16 & '17. No chance Beachum signs for less than him. None.

Beachum is either going to get $10M/yr or he tests the market.

I'll take "tests the market" for 1,000, Alex.

Which is a shame.

The Steelers fucked this up.

Beachum has played his balls off here...He should have been the 1st linemen to get a deal done.

Wasted the money on a center and right side players-- in a league where left side players get paid. I like Pouncey, Decastro, and Gilbert is playing well-- but which one of them will play LT? Prepare for the training camp battle between Villanueva and a high draft pick OT who isn't quite polished enough or talented enough to be a top 20 pick.

Agree completely. Could have been had for a song either of the last two offseasons.

I could probably get two upgraded starters on the defense for $10m a year.

Quality solid LT are hard to come by. I hope this isn't one of those times where the Steelers rue the day.

Very well could be. Currently, the PS can't afford 10 million for Beachum?

I guess they were just clearing cap space in the last week or two for fun?

Gilbert was the bad signing. Should have let him walk and drafted an OT rather than Archer. You would at least have a serviceable one. Not much drop off.

Would have paid Gilbert guard money and shifted him inside to LG. Villa at RT. Foster is FA after this 2015 campaign anyway. And Paid Beachum...

Guess they didn't get a deal done.

That's a shame. Anybody who has the Jedi mind powers to knock a pass rusher's helmet off without actually touching the guy's helmet isn't someone I'd want to mess with. "This is not the QB you're looking for."

Maybe somebody can tell me whether or not this is an NFL rule or one that the Steelers have self-imposed on themselves. Do teams have to give contracts or extensions to players before the season starts? Really?

This is going ways back, but Barry Foster was still under his rookie contract and was unhappy and the Steelers gave him a new contract right before that 3rd game of the season. The Steelers have done it before and it really does depend on the quality of the player and the importance of the position.

If Heyward is worth $10 million a year as your starting DE, then isn't Beachum worth that same amount to play LT and protect your franchise QB?

Trouble is Heyward isn't worth that

I agree 100% - I hope he walks. I would rather put the money into a Coverage CB or S than to Beachum.

I think Villa has much more potential anyways - they need to continue developing that kid.

I agree with this as well - I thought they over paid for him too.

I'm just hoping it was one bad game for Beachum last night.

I've been hearing for years that Beachum sucks and that the Steelers are spending too much on extensions.

So now not extending Beachum is a mistake?

Can't have it both ways.

My guess is that Beachum wanted something like top 5 LT money. Steelers decided to not give the 15th best LT top 5 LT money.

Shit happens

If that's the case, then I agree with the Steelers.
