The Switzinator stays. I'd say Mac goes to IR.

That said, I can get behind this trade. Acceptable first name, wrist circumference, and HIG are all there.

Vannet has 4 catches for 38 yards in 2019.
Not much...

But the two guys Tomlin chose for #2 and #3 WRs have combined for 10 catches and 35 yards.

That's not an error.
But an egregious error in judgement and talent evaluation by one MT

Can't be much more than a 5th or 6th rnd in return?

The #Steelers traded a fifth-round pick in 2020 to the #Seahawks for TE Nick Vannett, source said. Needed help with Vance McDonald banged up and paid the price to get it. Vannett has 48 career catches and 4 TDs.

Nick Vannett's career long NFL reception is 32 yards and it came last season against Rams. Short reception followed by lots of YAC. Nice "find work" block as well. lol #Steelers

A 5th for a TE in his 4th year of rookie deal? (2016 3rd rounder) This is a solid return for Seahawks GM John Schneider. Vannett prolly cut in offseason without Ed Dickson injury... Jacob Hollister, on the practice squad, is a better receiver and Seattle isn't short of blockers

Just means McDonald injury is not good. As we all predicted our TE situation is a total mess because China Doll McDonald goes down again and all we’ve been doing is saying all offseason that this was going to happen. Hits keep on coming.

I was struggling to understand why they gave up a 5th round pick for a guy averaging 1 catch per game who isn't a great blocker...

I'll beat that horse once again.

Picked Dobbs in 4th instead of Kittle.

Traded a 4th for McDonald when Kittle named their starter.

Now a 5th for Vannett.

Don't know if this 5th or the other 5th (Fitzpatrick) was for Dobbs.

Irony.
Finally retired: 31DEC25

He finally quit: 13JAN26

Next man up unless your pedigree is soft and we have to coach and develop. Then we trade....that will build trust and cohesion and work ethic.

Unless this guy is TE3.

Steelers are plugging their holes early for the offseason. They were very weak at safety and tight-end, now they’ve made two trades in less than a week for guys who can play now. Both are still under contract for several seasons. Think they did this to truly find out where the real weaknesses are in this roster. They essentially have a good team minus Big Ben. They’re giving guys plenty of opportunities to prove that they belong in this team going forward. Time will tell.

They left us thin at TE and WR. Can't even run some extra WRs out there to make up for being short at TE. What a mess. I just keep telling myself they finally fucked it up good enough to get us a new HC and some fresh blood. If we have to go through this shit and STILL nothing changes, I might have to just stop watching football until some of the people running the team die.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

They have Samuels, who could easily be getting receiver or HBack snaps.

According to Dulac Tweet:
SOURCES: Steelers did not make trade for Vannett because they think Vance McDonald shoulder injury is bad. It’s not. They are trying to bolster position and get a No. 2 after what they’ve witnessed thru 3G

Huh? Vannett is in the last year of his rookie deal and is a FA after this season. Trading what is probably an early fifth rounder seems a bit iffy but hopefully this guy is a decent # 2 TE and sticks around for a while.

Vannet is in the last year of his rookie contract. Only seeing somewhere in the neighborhood of $736K for the season. If the Steelers allow him to leave via FA they could receive a compensatory pick for him. So there's that. :|

Something has happened to Grimble. I can’t believe how bad he is playing.

BUT...the same can be said about 70-80 percent of our current roster, so he’s actually part of the norm.

What a fun season!
