Very satisfied with this one being in the books. I think they helped themselves big time at CB..like the first rounder although I note some of the criticisms of his boom/bust potentials. Loved the Coates pick. Not sure about the 5th round TE..lol..
I think K Colbert's job is safe for a bit.
Thanks to all of you for a very enlightening few days. You amaze me with your passion and knowledge for all things football.

I'm pretty OK with it. I'm in the minority thinking we basically stole James.

I like it. Seems like we got a bunch of athletes that were also highly productive, with a good number of football players in the mix.

Other than James, I might have chosen other guys... but I like all the players picked. I don't care for our UDFA haul... AT ALL. A couple of the players are interesting practice squad types... but there were some home run swings who might have been tremendous fits here... all elsewhere.

I love this draft...on paper. So good that I can completely ignore the swing and miss in round 5. Bad college players don't make good pros. (My last jab...I promise

)
Overall, I'm one happy Steelers fan...in May!

I am a very anti Colbert guy. Unlike most I try to be objective and unlike many I hold him accountable for the draft picks. No excuses that he is listening to Tomlin/Rooney etc. You are GM YOU responsible for the picks, no one else. Your team is not prepared the coach(not the GM) is responsible etc etc Pretty easy. I think KC did a good job, I would like to see him make an aggressive move once in a while. A move that says I KNOW this guy will be elite and am willing to pay a premium because I know he will be good (and others don't). The Troy pick is a great example. KC I would still like to see you gone, but at first blush nice draft BUT time will tell.

Two things i dont like:
the lack of height at cb--but thats been discussed. I look forward to being proven wrong.
Three consecutive #1 linebacker--precedent that comes to mind is detroit draftnig wr #1 year after year after year, a while back. That's not good company to keep.

I like it too - all around solid from my perspective. Haven't been this excited for the entire potential impact of one class in a long time.
FWIW, especially for guys who think Scott Wright at NFL Draft Countdown is solid, our first four picks were mocked by him:
Dupree at 8 (got at 22)
Coates at 58 (got 87)
Golson at 80 (got 56)
Grant at 82 (got 121)

unlike a lot of years I think everyone of them has a chance to stick. might have to hide one or two but I know we could use a great draft this year to swing the machine back to super bowl contenders!

You're contradicting yourself. He had Golson at 80. we got him at 56. Colbert fails again
(There is no sarca font bold enough for this comment)

Just to be clear, here is the definition of objective
Objective: not influenced by personal feelings, interpretations, or prejudice; based on facts; unbiased
I'm not sure you're the most objective participant in the Colbert debate. I think the dude must have pissed in your Wheaties.

And now we wait.
I like taking a wr in the 3rd.
I like targeting ball hawks for the secondary.
I like the idea of a pass rusher in the 1st.
I would probably draft only a natural football player in the 1st or trade down if that guy is not on my board. And I don't see that as a "safe pick" philosophy. That philosophy gets you Troy Polamalu, Santonio Holmes, and Decastro. It also gets you the Mosleys and Zach Martins of the 1st round. I remember a time when there was popular support on this board for the idea that you cannot miss on your 1st round pick.
A lot of how we end up viewing Colbert from 2011 - 2020 is riding on what becomes of Shazier and Dupree. And to be fair, Jarvis Jones too, on the "natural football player" side of this.
Don't get me wrong, I believe Shazier and Dupree could become good players for us, like Timmons did. And maybe better than good.
I am pulling for all of our picks to succeed.
