Ben and the locker room

Wow is that one heck of an article. Maybe THE most insightful and interesting Steeler article I've read.
So much to un-pack. Two things that jumped out to me - the comment about Ben pretty much running the offense on his own, and a somewhat subtle acknowledgement from Foster of a Jordan-effect (i.e. EVERYONE, which presumably includes coaches, kind of standing around watching and relying on Ben and not giving everything to improve their own games).

LOL, just read the comment section of the article.
Actually, I can see where some of them are coming from. We all read the same article, but my take on Ben was quite different!

The article is a nice answer for those who think Ben isn't helping the young qb's during games just because for the few seconds he's on camera during a game he happens not to be talking to anyone.

Can't be an easy task, though, because "open" means something entirely different to Ben's arm than Duck or Mason's
The music comment threw me off, though. I think the context must have gotten screwed up because I can't believe Ben dictates no music when work is done. Or maybe he likes having impromptu football discussions and loud music keeps you from being able to hear the guy next to you talk.

I don’t think the context is off. I have read about him putting the kabosh on the music before. I think it was annoying him, distracting the locker room, causing arguments over genres etc.Kodiak wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:51 amCan't be an easy task, though, because "open" means something entirely different to Ben's arm than Duck or Mason'sHe's also helping the young receivers.

I think about the scene in Moneyball when Giambi’s nephew is dancing, and Billy Beane takes a bat to the stereo system.
Ahhhh, that makes some sense. Plus, with a lot of good wireless options out there these days no reason people can't keep their music to themselves and their headphones.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 1:32 amI don’t think the context is off. Definitely sounds a little like a "get off my lawn" rule, though.

I run CCleaner and don't remember having a problem (maybe because I also have CCenhancer). It's just a matter of clearing cache and cookies, or used to be.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 1:29 amJust download the PG reader app and it is free. When you are out of articles, delete the app and redownload. The article count starts over at zero.
There's another way with containers in Firefox. But it's pretty advanced and time consuming.
Also, incognito in Chrome should work. Or it used to.

Incognito doesn’t work because I have an adblocker and PG are nazis about ad blockers.
I use the PG reader app and don’t use the YouTube app on my iPhone. Watching YouTube without ads is almost heaven, hence I won’t get rid of the adblocker
The starving youtube creators and newspaper companies will have to figure something out, no human can waste all their money on 10 different subscriptions.

I used incognito for this article. Works with a lot of news sites as well.Kodiak wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 1:44 amI run CCleaner and don't remember having a problem (maybe because I also have CCenhancer). And I used to happily pay WSJ sub fees....until they started charging like $20+ per month for digital. I only wanted to read like 2-3 articles so, yeah, I'm not paying $20 per month.

Doesn't this article seem a little like... a fluff piece?
Not to be a BR7 skeptic, as the man has multiple 500 yard games, 2 super bowl rings, and has delivered plenty of thrills over the years... but doesn't the revelation he runs the offense say a lot about our let downs over the years? Like a lack of adjustments to even really bad teams? This year is probably the first time he's ever touched a Microsoft Surface! Like his last computer was a freaking Commodore 64 I bet.
Also, please correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't some of his best years as a quarterback been with Haley as the coordinator? So he kind of pushed Haley out of the way even though Haley helped Ben thrive and really stay alive? Ben was getting sacked so often with previous OCs it was ridiculous. He was the number one sacked QB a couple years? Right?
Maybe seeing how the team can win without a bunch of "stars" could be just the medicine BR needs to get those final Super Bowl rings?

Read those comments and you see why Steelers fans don’t deserve Ben. Some asshole actually argued that the team is better in 3rd and short now because Ben would just chuck it 40 yards. They’re the worst team in the league in 3rd and short now. Fucking idiots. Enjoy the Bubby Brister, Kent Graham, Cliff Stoudt, Duck Hodges era that is coming up. Those QBs may suck, but at least they won’t have a lot of control like Ben did.

If only we had one of those Franchise QB’s who didn’t run the whole offense! Every good team has one like....oh wait, all of those FQBs seem to be really really involved with the offense. It is like they know the playbook inside and out.Steelperch wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 1:00 pmRead those comments and you see why Steelers fans don’t deserve Ben. “Ben what would you call in this formation” the OC said.
“I would call 59 sweep blue xyz” Ben Says.
“That is absolutely what I would call, you offensive savant. But don’t let me ever catch you trying to interpret what to call unless it enters your green dot helmet through the earpiece! Anything else is mutiny...you hear me boy?“, “we will not have a failure to communicate boy!” Says the OC.

As much as BR is a HOF SB winning QB, if he has a bad day, the entire offense does. It shouldn't be that way.
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.
Yeah, I think he has too much input and ownership of the playcalling. That's not saying he should have 0, but a lot less than what he appears to have.
I don't think anyone could honestly expect that not to hurt the offense. The OC needs to be calmly plotting, and setting up the defense, with a bird's-eye view of the whole field. It's just too much for Ben to play QB and OC - can't do both at a high level. No one can.

NFL wants to make some extra money? How about record all the green dot conversations, and allow us to hear the calls the day after while watching a rerun of the game. I would love to hear what gets said. Probably more importantly, how many plays occur where nothing is said.Kodiak wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 6:43 pmYeah, I think he has too much input and ownership of the playcalling. Agree Kodiak. Ben should be able to run the offense, even entire series without the OC saying anything, with the assumption that the OC’s bandwidth is freed to come up with adjustments, and dovetail those adjustments into the headset with what the QB is already doing.
I use NoScript on Firefox. If you are patient turning on the javascript you can generally get around most paywalls...like PPG
