Adam Schefter
ESPN Senior Writer

Browns trading former first-round CB Justin Gilbert to the Pittsburgh Steelers, per league source. Rare in-division trade.

TRADE. They are TRADING for a player who can't play. Who sucks. Who was going to get cut.

Are you saying they should do this or that it has been done? I don't want him and cannot see an6where that the trade happened.

Gilbert was shitty in college, we dodged a bullet that Cleveland selected him before us, he sucked from the get go, he still sucks, they were going to cut him, and WE TRADED FOR HIM.

Probably a conditional late round pick to prevent him from hitting waivers. I think Browns organization sucks life from players otherwise talented. Maybe he will come alive.

dude could definitely return kicks in college and had 7 picks as a senior.

Steelers loved him in the draft process I recall. Gilbert has been awful in the pros, but he is a top athlete who has only been in the league for two years. Could be a steal if they can get him up to potential. That said, I wouldn't have given more than a 6th rounder for him. Hope that's the case.

I remember him being pretty good in Shitwater, I watch a lot of Big 12 games, he had 7 picks as a senior and 6 kickoff returns for TD in 4 years. Haven't watched him play in Cleveland except when they played us.

Had ball skills, but was always soft and dumb. Bad combination for the NFL.

I would hope it's a conditional pick-- if he doesn't stick or doesn't play, they get bupkus.

If he could return punts, I'd be throughly on board. He can't, so I'm not. As noted, we needed to find a 4th CB. Utter bust as a 1st round pick may still be a big upgrade relative to the Shabazz/grant kind of options we had.

Edit: sixth is fine with me, but I'm still a bit concerned with our depth at slot CB. Right now, we have gay and golson who can play slot. And we don't have golson.

Fair trade for the risk/reward. 6'0 200 lb guys with 33" arms who run 4.3 40's don't grow on trees. I think he definitely falls into the hearts and smarts category though. Maybe a change of scenery and culture will help him reach his potential.

Correct, I missed that. Which makes it even less valuable than a sixth next year.

And we have him for three years if we want as he has a fifth year option.

If they turn him around it will be a big time steal. Even if he does little this year.

I think it's a risk well worth taking.

I agree with this and what Perch said about his size and speed, maybe a change of scenery and scheme can help him reach his potential. Lets face it, the land isn't exactly the best place for a player to go and excel.

If Pats made this move there would be a thread fellating them. The media would spend the next fews days telling us how Gilbert will surely get it turned around & be a shutdown CB. PS gave up a 6th rounder for a lad with tools whether they can turn him around is questionable but well worth the risk.

Real question: how do people rate Gilbert relative to Antwon Blake?

Bizarro Blake. He has all the physical tools Blake lacked, but none of the hustle, work ethic, and grit that allowed Blake to make an NFL roster.

I live in OKC now. I don't watch or give a rat's ass about college football and or anything Oklahoma. However, when he was in college here at OSU he was highly touted. I knew he wouldn't be the CB savior they hoped he would when they drafted him. And I hoped and prayed the Steelers wouldn't draft him even though the need at CB was there. OSU players rarely convert. However, lets be honest, would any single one of yinz play "all-out", give 110% percent, constantly be in the film room & gym, never get your head out of the play book, playing in or being drafted by Cleveland the last 10 years or so???

Will he ever be a Revis or Ike Taylor type CB? Hell no, he won't! Will he ever turn into a #1 CB for the Steelers, most likely another big HELL NO. But is he better than the #4 or #5 CB that was making the final 53 = Doran Grant & Darryl Roberts??? Is he better than the guys they'll try to stash on the practice squad now = Darryl Roberts, Montell Garner and/or Al-Hajj Shabazz??? Fuck yes he is!!!

Plus, don't forget "comp" picks are trade-able starting next year. Might lose the #32 6th rounder for him, but might also have the #33 6th rounder.

Double post. Not sure why. I am not a fan after hearing about his lack of work ethic in Cleveland but a future 6th is not too much to give up.

Perch, the optimist.

Eh, 2018 6th... like a 2016 7th for the chance to kick the tires for a few weeks.

I would take Blake.

Neither can play slot CB, which where we have the biggest issue.
