Sucks for him but would be awesome to get him with the 3rd round comp pick.

Poor guy. Gets drafted by the Browns in the Steeler Fury mock draft and he's cursed.
Big question is what round does some team pull the trigger on him. I'd definitely do it in round 3. Round 2 maybe. This team needs help now, so wasting a 2nd doesn't help the cause.

Spending a 2nd RND is a steal but a 3rd would be 'grand larceny'. I'd be tripping over my own feet running to the podium.

Same here, he's my 2nd round pick if he's there. Sounds like we're signing a veteran anyways which mean Burns, Cockrell and Gay/veteran are your top 3 guys anyway. Who knows, maybe Golson can prove himself adequate.

There's absolutely no way I draft him before day 3-- not for this team. Too much immediate need and too many questions about how he will recover and, most of all, too many excellent CBs in this draft.

Terrible news but could it help the Steelers get him in round 3 now

I can't believe what I am reading. All of you want to spend a 3rd, even a 2nd for a CB with a torn achilles?
Do I need to remind you all that we spent a 2nd on a CB (Golson) who has yet to play a down in the NFL yet? And now you all want spend a 2nd for another CB? Are you all nuts?
Remember when Oregon CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu tore up his knee? He was projected to be a 2nd-3rd round CB but he fell all the way to the 7th round where the Browns took a chance on him. He sat out the 2015 season, was waived in April of 2016, Miami took a chance on him and then he was waived and put on IR. He was then released just last month by the Dolphins.
I would do what the Browns did and spend a 7th for Jones but that is it. You just don't see too many success stories with players coming back from injury like that. It is just bad juju to waste a high pick, a 2nd or 3rd for an injured player like that.

No such word as "NOW" in Art2's world.

Agreed.
We don't even know if Golson will make it out of camp. Until he plays in a meaningful game he can not be counted on. Now some want to spend a premium pick on a guy that won't play next year. That means in four years two premium picks won't help the team the year they were drafted.
Like B2B said, its a deep CB draft so lets take one(or another position) that can help us this year.
A late third day pick(6th round on) is where you take a chance.

Willis Magahee and Frank Gore were drafted pretty early coming off a major injury. Why do the Steelers struggle so much finding too notch corners? Because they draft at the end of round 1 every year and the quality cover corners are gone. This is a rare chance to add a high 1st round talent several rounds later. It's something you have to consider.

His teammate might be a better pro, honestly. I'm not sure either Wilson is substantially worse.
Find a healthy guy who can play and contribute this year.

For every Magahee that someone quotes I can quote a Bruce Carter or 5 other players. Players that were supposed to be 1st rounders but, because of injury don't, and then teams try and get cute and clever and take them in the 2nd round or later. Carter was a LBer but never did anything in Dallas and now has moved on to the Jets last I heard. Even look at the Jags and Dante Fowler Jr, not the same situation but he was the 3rd overall pick, got hurt 4 days before signing his contract, did not play his rookie year and his second year was just really average and pedestrian.
It is a pretty damaging situation to be hurt and injured before you are drafted or for it to happen in your rookie year. For many players it is the kiss of death, they just never recover or never get back on track. What might Sean Spence have been like if he hadn't seriously messed up his knee his rookie year? Senquez Golson will he get his career on track?
Every year I see teams take chances on these injured players and it rarely seems to work out in the end. Dallas did this again last season when they spent a 2nd rounder on that LBer Jaylon Smith. They are all so hopeful and you know Jones can't wait to brag about how they 'stole' him in the 2nd round, blah, blah. We will see.
Me? I don't take chances like that, it is stupid.
B2B, I agree with you, King may end up being the more successful player. He has more length, speed and athleticism and is just bigger. Jones to me looked real fragile, King has what, 15 pounds over him? I wouldn't be upset at all if we drafted King.

I'd gamble on an ACL, a fracture, or shoulder/hip soft tissue concerns. Hell, even a disc injury.
I wouldn't gamble on an Achilles. Too high an incidence of loss of performance or recurrence of a tear on the opposite leg.

Success in any field requires genetic aptitude. It's why some can withstand the trauma, some like LG get headaches. Sidney already broke down but maybe he'll defy odds and flourish but we shouldn't buy those odds. LG doesn't have the genetics and we should cut ties but we prob won't because emotion gets in the way of reason in the Tomlin era.
