at New York Giants
Atlanta Falcons
Indianapolis Colts
at Carolina Panthers
For the 15th straight year, the Steelers play Carolina in Week 4 of the preseason. Honest q: is there a reason behind this?

short flight?
Maybe the NFL is trying to build a preseason rivalry...in the most meaningless game where most starters don't even play.

The NFL doesn't schedule preseason games. It is up to the individual teams to get together and schedule preseason games with each other. It just makes sense that you're going to schedule games that are close against teams that you're not going to play in the regular season.

I wondered same for quite awhile in Carolina.. I guess its easy for both teams to pencil it in week 4 of meaningless show.

Odd that we play the Colts in the preseason and then again later in the regular season.

I believe the Steelers play the Colts in the regular season too right? Why do they schedule a pre-season game against an opponent that they'll face in the regular season? Don't agree with this philosophy.

I was thinking that someone told me at one time it was to help boost ticket sales & hype for that region back when Carolina first came into the league...

Not sure it's a reason, but the Steelers own Charlotte.
Example: Last time we played here in the regular season (pretty much the end of Ike Taylor's career), the place was 75% B&G...
Of course, that was before the Panthers flashed all the way to the SB, but they've had a full season of suck since, so we're probably back to owning the place.
Oh, and we played them in the preseason that year, too, so it's definitely not unprecedented to play the same team in pre- and regular-season games...
