I'd keep Coates over DHB every single day and twice on Sundays.
Before the hand injury, he was playing great.
I look forward to seeing him this preseason.

Couldn't agree more with keeping him over DHB. Coates tanked after his handjury, but appeared to impressively gut it out, contribute any way possible and we would probably be talking about him getting cut prior to this camp had it been any other reason.
Assuming his hand has completely healed I am looking for an X factor season from him; stepping up big during the eventual injury of one of the WR starters.
This of course is based on the outsiders interpretations of what I saw on the field and the description of his injury. If it was a paper cut web tear that he insisted on getting stitches for than I will probably be eating my words.

I concur Coats is an upgrade over DHB hopefully he can come back and play like he did for the first 4 weeks of last season.
Let JuJu be your STs gunner, try to trade DHB for a 7th.

Significantly slower. Too slow for a gunner.
Coates is a pretty good fit in that role and I'd like to see Allen get a shot, too... although he wasn't used that way last game.

I think the steelers will look to move one of their WR either for a late pick like suggested or a player in a position of need

I have. We shall see if I am wrong.
Mike Tomlin: Bringing mediocrity to the 'Burgh for over a decade.
I think the Steelers coaches are ready for AB to take over the main leadership role of the WR room. They usually expect that after a big contract. DHB is either not totally recovered from last year or has lost a step or two in his 30's, imo. If all WRs are healthy I think this might be the year DHB doesn't make the cut. I think they want two of each WRs types S/M/L AB-ELI/Coates-JuJu/Bryant-Hunter.
OT - I really wish they would've gone after the CB, T. Brock, the 49ers, recently let go of. The Seahawks just picked him up on a one year deal, with no other team showing interest. He played really well last year and is a great #2 CB.

I think I might be inclined to keep Hamilton over both. Not as fast but trust him to make a catch more than the other two.
Coates has the hex on him now. May as well put em inside and hammer on him in practice. If he can hang onto, err, catch and hang onto the ball, it may do some good, and may actually lift the hex.

I think MT really likes DHB and he is a lock. We'll see.

He's having a terrible camp. Like, a "he's done" camp.
One on ones this week:
WR/DB
Offense success rate
Cobi Hamilton: 4-3
Antonio Brown: 4-4
Eli Rogers: 3-0
Martavis Bryant: 3-2-1
Marcus Tucker: 3-2
Sammie Coates: 2-1
Justin Hunter: 2-5
Canaan Severin: 1-1
Darrius Heyward-Bey: 0-4
Wide Receiver Catches/Targets/Touchdowns
Antonio Brown: 31/52 (59.6%) 8 TDs
Eli Rogers: 19/31 (61.3%) 4 TDs
Cobi Hamilton: 19/38 (50%) 2 TDs
JuJu Smith-Schuster: 18/24 (75%) 4 TDs
Marcus Tucker: 18/31 (58.1%) 3 TDs
Knile Davis: 17/17 (100%) 1 TD
Jesse James: 15/26 (57.7%) 4 TDs
Justin Hunter: 15/30 (50%) 4 TDs
Terrell Watson: 13/15 (86.7%)
Demarcus Ayers: 13/19 (68.4%) 2 TDs
David Johnson: 13/24 (54.2%) 3 TDs
Canaan Severin: 12/21 (57.1%) 4 TDs
Terrell Watson: 11/13 (84.6%)
Xavier Grimble: 11/19 (57.9%) 5 TDs
Darrius Heyward-Bey: 9/27 (33.3%) 1 TD
James Conner: 8/9 (88.9%) 1 TD
Fitzgerald Toussaint: 8/9 (87.5%)
Jake McGee: 8/12 (66.7%)
Roosevelt Nix: 5/9 (55.6%) 1 TD
Phazahn Odom: 5/15 (33.3%) 2 TDs
Scott Orndoff: 3/3 (100%) 1 TD
Trey Williams: 3/4 (75%)
Martavis Bryant: 3/4 (75%)
Brandon Brown-Dukes: 2/3 (66.7%)
Drops
Darrius Heyward-Bey: 4
Antonio Brown: 3
Jesse James: 3
Cobi Hamilton: 2
Roosevelt Nix: 2
Phazahn Odom: 1
JuJu Smith-Schuster: 1
Xavier Grimble: 1
Marcus Tucker: 1
David Johnson: 1
Then in yesterday's practice:
one-on-ones
4. Stem to the right corner by Darrius Heyward-Bey. Pass incomplete with Brian Allen on the coverage but giving up space at the top.
14. Backshoulder fade to Heyward-Bey. Finds it but drops the ball as he goes up for it. Hilton on the coverage.
Team session:
8. Second team DL. Alualu-Walton-Maxey. Dobbs looks for DHB on a skinny post but Sensabaugh breaks it up.
17. Short throw to DHB. Hilton on the coverage. Pass incomplete, bounced off someone, not entirely sure who.
18. This time, I’m sure. Hilton reaches into the pocket to break up drag route (moving right to left) intended for DHB. Incomplete, practice is over.
To summarize DHB's camp:
One-on-ones this week: 0-6
Overall camp team sessions: 9-30 (23.1%), 1 TD, 5 drops.

Agree. I believe DHB is barely hanging on with scrap between him and Hunter. Can Hunter replicate "good form" of early camp in a game? People forget Coates b4 he got hurt last season despite inconsistency was tearing it up and causing opposition teams fits. If that Coates returns with Ab and Alien...man tasty. If not Steelers WR corps will still be one of best around.
Only thing that matters is what Tomlin's gut is telling him the day WR cuts are made.

I'd say that's the odds on favorite. I haven't broken down Coates' ST play, but that's pretty much the only shot DHB has at making this team is if the other STers aren't getting it done.
Coates WAS doing a pretty good poor man's Bryant imitation until he broke his finger. I don't think the Steelers are going to just dismiss that potential with Bryant still such a wild card (he hasn't even formally been reinstated for the real games).
Hunter is a lock, and looks to have earned it as well. Steelers grabbed him as cheap insurance because there were so many questions with Coates and Bryant, questions that aren't going away before Wk1.
DHB has no trade value.

Hunter has faded a little recently, Juju's injury is a big ???, and there's an outside possibility the Steelers carry 7 WRs... so Ayers is still in play. But DHB is clearly running 4th or 5th behind Cobi in the outside WR race. Not a good position to be in.

Yeah, rain on the parade.
I was going to say this could be the most dangerous group ever assembled, but this is a dose of reality. They may look it, with Ben, but Ben has a history of making quite a few guys quite a bit better than they actually were - the handful of plays Ben's arm enables them to make each year can be the difference between mediocre and Pro Bowl.
I'll be hugely disappointed if Ben doesn't get another ring. He deserves it and needs that to validate his place all-time.

Give me:
AB
Bryant
JuJu (clean MRI today, back at camp, nothing significant)
Eli
Hunter (FA signing, Ben likes him, he's going nowhere)
Cobi
Coates to the WR desperate Jets for a 5th rounder. DHB cut. Ayers to the practice squad.

I too will be disappointed if Ben doesn't get another ring before he hangs em up. I don't buy at all he NEEDS another to validate his place all time.

I think he's a HOFer but I'm not convinced it's a lock.
At least he made it back to the AFCC. I'm not sure if history will be kind to Ben when people say "what did he do the second half of his career when he's supposedly a complete QB?" I think he's one of the very best to ever play the position - like easy top 10- but he doesn't have the stats or rings to support that argument.

Modern-era QB's in the HOF. I have color-coded the QB's I believe Ben is better than:
Troy Aikman 1989-2000
George Blanda (Also PK) 1949-1958, 1960-1975
Terry Bradshaw 1970-1983
Len Dawson 1957-1975
John Elway 1983-1998
Brett Favre 1991-2010
Dan Fouts 1973-1987

Dan Marino 1983-1999
Joe Montana 1979-1994
Warren Moon 1984-2000
Joe Namath 1965-1977
Ken Stabler 1970-1984

Norm Van Brocklin 1949-1960
Kurt Warner 1998-2009
Bob Waterfield 1945-1952
Steve Young 1985-1999
I could be convinced of more on the list, but I didn't want to go overboard.
