Pens vs Panthers 1-5-20

At the half way point in the season. Amazing job being done by the players and staff considering the Pens have lost something like 163 man games to injury.
Credit to Sully, he has made an ever-changing roster work.

Halfway MVP:
I'm going with four guys here.
1.Jarry-who knew he could hold up so well? He should be an allstar when you look at his #'s.
2. Guentzel-was on his way to a second season of 40 goals.
3.Rust-how many big goals has he scored so far? He will be important going forward for sure.
4. Malkin- if had stayed healthy all year he would be near the top of the scoring list. Is fourth in the league in takeaways with the top 3 guys having played 14 more games then Geno. Face offs have really improved.

Biggest surprise: Jarry

Biggest disappointment: Galchenyuk. He got his shot on the top line last night and ended up back on the fourth line because he was invisible.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is moved.

Lines from Pensburgh

Dominik Kahun - Evgeni Malkin - Bryan Rust

Dominik Simon- Jared McCann -Patric Hornqvist

Zach Aston-Reese - Teddy Blueger - Brandon Tanev

Alex Galchenyuk - Joseph Blandisi - Thomas Di Pauli

Defense:

Jack Johnson/ Kris Letang

Marcus Pettersson / John Marino

Juuso Riikola / Chad Ruhwedel

Expected scratches: Kevin Czuczman (healthy), Kevin Czuczman (healthy), Sam Lafferty (ill)

Injured Reserve: Sidney Crosby (core muscle surgery), Nick Bjugstad (core muscle surgery), Brian Dumoulin (ankle surgery), Jake Guentzel (shoulder), Justin Schultz (lower body injury)

Meh game. Panthers goalie was very, very good.

I knew the Pens were in trouble when they led the broadcast off saying the Pens didn't get back to Pittsburgh until 1:30AM the night before. That means most of the players probably got home around 3AM and had to play at 5PM. Not much time to sleep or rest.
I know the Panthers had a game the day before as well but they were done by 4PM and in Pittsburgh by 7PM

The way the NHL schedules teams is out of whack.
