How about three solid periods?

How about another line showing up to assist the top line?

Penguins projected lineup

Jake Guentzel -- Evgeni Malkin -- Bryan Rust

Dominik Kahun -- Jared McCann -- Zach Aston-Reese

Alex Galchenyuk -- Teddy Blueger -- Brandon Tanev

Dominik Simon -- Sam Lafferty -- Stefan Noesen

Kris Letang -- John Marino

Jack Johnson -- Justin Schultz

Marcus Pettersson -- Chad Ruhwedel

Matt Murray

Tristan Jarry

Scratched: Joseph Blandisi, Juuso Riikola

Injured: Sidney Crosby (core muscle surgery), Nick Bjugstad (core muscle surgery), Brian Dumoulin (ankle surgery), Patric Hornqvist (lower body)

Not pretty, but gritty. I'll take it.

I'm a bit surprised by the lack of reporting about Crosby's comeback. When he went out it was said he would probably be back by X-mas. I would think that means he would be on the ice in a limited way by now.
When Bjugstad comes back the Pens have themselves a nice problem.
McCann can go back to wing but I wouldn't mind seeing more of Bluegar than Bjugstad to be honest. I wouldn't mind the Pens trying to move Bjugstad either.

Every outlet I've found had said that Sid would be out at least six weeks after his surgery - which would be Dec 26th at the earliest.

I don't expect him to be out on the ice taking in drills, but I'm surprised there is nothing about him being on the ice just to get his feet wet. Normally guys out this long get back on the ice a week or two before they return to the lineup.
Then again, maybe he is working out and no one is seeing it.

I haven't seen anything in the press nor do I recall any of the TV voices on AT&T saying anything about him since he went out.

Rust's play was superstar level. Lifted up the stick of a really good NHL defenseman as he was about to clear the puck, and in one sweep back, banged it 5-hole. You won't see a more skillsy goal.

And on a side note: I think we'd all enjoy having the problem again of two great goaltenders... but both Murray and Jarry are going to be RFA's this offseason. One is 24 and one is 25. One can only imagine the haul you might get for one of them at the trade deadline. I mean, you could set up this team for the remainder of Crosby/Malkin careers and then some. Risky/ballsy move, but... could it happen?
1 20 Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
2 51 TRADE: Brandon Aiyuk, WR
3 84 Hunter Nourzad, C, Penn State
3× 98 Jarvis Brownlee, Jr., CB, Florida State
4 128 Qwan'tez Stiggers, DB, Toronto Argonauts

Me, I don't think Murray has been great for almost two years. The book on Jarry is that after a string of starts he starts to fade. Maybe he gets over that. I also think the team plays better in front of Jarry.

Remember all those off season rumors that Rutherford was trying to move Rust?
