NHL "Stanley Cup Qualifying" Tourney Aug 1
Featuring your Pittsburgh Penguins vs Montreal Canadiens in a best of 5 series.
Pens are practicing hard, like they're gonna play in 3 weeks. I predict Evgeny Malkin is going to be the Conn Smythe winner.

This is sweet. And to think Jake being out might have been the missing link to make this team a serious contender...COVID hits...aaaaaand he’s back. Crazy.
“Thoughts are a waste of time for me.” - Michael Pettaway Tomlin
Bad news: Nine Penguins players are being held out of camp due to exposure to COVID
Good news: Hornqvist and Riikola were the only regulars missing from practice. Eight missing players are: Patric Hornqvist, Anthony Angello, Adam Johnson, Philip Varone, Sam Miletic, Samuel Poulin, Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Juuso Riikola. The ninth player would be one of the goalies not named Jarry or Murray.

Look at those lines without the missing players! They’re damn near perfect.

I watched the scrimmage today, anyone else?
The biggest surprise was Lafferty-he might have been the best player on the ice. He was all over and scored a nice goal.
The Black team had Crosby/Malkin and the rest of the top players. The gold team had the bottom 6 guys but they switched players from team to team throughout. The Black team overwhelmed the Gold team and really beat up on Murray who gave up at least 7 goals before I turned it off.
Really wasn't a contest.
Rust looked like he was drunk the first period. He just couldn't take a pass or make any space for himself. He got better later though. Sheary was a spark and had three assists.
Crosby had a sweet goal but left the last 15 minutes of the second(final) period. Supposedly it was equipment.
Malkin abused Blueger time and time again.
You aren't supposed to hit your teammates in these kind of games but JJ laid out 2 hits-dumbass.
Pens play the Flyers in an exhibition game in 11 days.

Watched the whole thing on replay. Fun! Lafferty had himself a day. Why is he on the fringes in favor of some of that bottom roster dead weight? Letang played like it was practice.
But the biggest takeaway is: If the playoffs started tomorrow, Jarry is in goal, without a doubt.

For the 64K question...Guentzel looked good. He kept to the periphery for the most part and I don't blame a player for that in this kind of game.
He had some nice shots and made a few excellent passes.
I wouldn't make goat tender choice after a game like yesterdays. Murray and the Gold team were overwhelmed for most of the morning.
It was smart to have the game early, because in the tournament you might be playing in the morning. Smart move Sully.

Agreed that it's premature to make the goailie call... but that's based on the whole season, not just yesterday. Sure, they were overwhelmed... but Jarry seems so confident right now. Lafferty was the only one to beat him (quick shot on the breakaway that hit the post).
Things shape up well. Pens play late the first couple of games, right? So I hear.

If my memory serves me(March is so long ago) Jarry was coming back to earth early in March and Sully had settled on Murray after that.
I think the Pens weakness going into the playoffs is what is the goaltending going to give them.
Oh, Crosby missed practice today.

Didn't play in the scrimmage today. Must be having a hard time passing that puck.
I thought I saw BSPN report "health issue" on their crawl screen yesterday.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

I was just joking because they said he'd left the scrimmage with an "equipment" problem. However, they aren't allowed to comment on any injury nor health issue now because of the special rules regarding this tourney and coronavirus, so, who knows?

I remember being blown away by Lafferty’s shot. He didn’t score a lot of goals but the ones that went in had that “wow” factor. He’s fast, too, and gets after the puck. Would love it see more of him.
I can’t believe we get to watch live hockey in 1 week.

And Pens vs Cryers as the preseason appetizer course...

Crosby skated today, but didn't practice. Horny and Riikola joined the main group.
