Pens vs Rangers (4/8/21)

Post by Pabst » Thu Apr 08, 2021 8:22 pm

Track season has started, so I won't be very active on Tuesdays/Thursdays.

Angello hurt, because why the hell not.

Go Pens.

Zorro with some kind of burst scores a beauty!

I hate when the team does this. They are dominant on the offensive zone for most of the period but cannot convert opportunities.

Add in Jarry almost costing the team with some bad puck handling on the penalty kill.

Yeah, the Pens controlled play a great deal and had a lot of OZ time. To me, the difference tonight, so far is that the chances are not as good as they were Tuesday night.
Shesterkin is a good goalie and has played really well so far. While the Rangers are not a shutdown kind of defensive team, tonight they are insulating the tender and blocking shots.
Keep putting the puck on the net and a few will find open sticks or get by Shesterkin.

Biggest blunder in that period was Zibanejad missing the wide open net.

There you go-keep putting the puck on net. And it is our turn for the puck to go off a Ranger and in

2-1

Jarry needs to just stay near the crease. That was almost a disaster.

Alright, second PP unit gets it behind the tender quickly.

3-1 Rodrigues with a pretty power play goal.

Jarry with big save on the penalty shot. I will take it. Now if he will just stay in the crease area.

Weird shit that period:
McCann only played about 40 seconds the first half of the second.
The ice was really bad the last 5 minutes and maybe helped Jarry on the PS.
Crosby was in the locker room more than on the ice. Speculate equipment-fingers crossed.

Good stuff that period:
Zohorna won a big FO then chipped the puck to Rodrigues for the third goal.
The bottom six continued to keep the course.

The Rangers are cheating up ice and it cost the Pens a PS and almost another breakaway. I'm hoping they finally get the puck deep and go to work, they got away from that big time in the second period. Make the Rangers earn the ice this period.

I think they miss Tanev more than people know. He is not the greatest player but he always seems to be doing things that are positives while making good and smart plays. When he is on the ice they seem to make more good plays than when he is not available.

The good news tonight is that 2 Penguin killers are no longer with the Devils-Zajac-Palmieri.
The bad news, both are with the Islanders now.
