Pens vs Capitals (10/13/23)

Post by Pabst » Fri Oct 13, 2023 3:04 pm

Know what would wash the taste of Tuesday right out of my mouth? A drubbing of the Capitals.

Puck drop is 7:30 ET, and it's exclusively on ESPN+/Hulu because media companies are desperate to get subscribers to their streaming services and this entire TV model is stupid.

Anyway.....

Alex Ovechkin - Nick Backstrom - TJ Oshie
Connor McMichael - Evgeni Kuznetsov - Tom Wilson
Sonny Milano - Dylan Strome - Aliaksei Protas
Beck Malenstyn - Nic Dowd- Anthony Mantha

Rasmus Sandin / John Carlson
Lucas Johansen / Nick Jensen
Martin Fehervary / Trevor van Riemsdyk

Darcy Kuemper

And you thought the Pens were old. The only thing keeping this lineup from being the oldest in the NHL is the AHL players filling out the lineup. I'd made a snide comment, but the Pens just blew it vs the Blackhawks.

Pens lines:

Jake Guentzel - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust
Reilly Smith - Evgeni Malkin - Rickard Rakell
Jansen Harkins - Lars Eller - Drew O’Connor
Matt Nieto - Noel Acciari - Jeff Carter

Ryan Graves / Kris Letang
Marcus Pettersson / Erik Karlsson
P.O. Joseph / Chad Ruhwedel

Tristan Jarry

Radio for me.

Connor McDavid freely admits he is a HUGE fan of Nickelbac.k.

Is Kaitlin Collins really a dude?

Maybe we've reached that point in our culture where hating Nickleback is such a cliche that being a fan is edgy?

I shouldn't be this nervous about a PK when we're up 3-0 midway thru the 3rd

I delivered about 50 pizzas tonight-my semi retirement side gig. I was hoping for better chatter from you guys throughout the game.

PP look better? Results se3m to say so.

Fast and Furious, the first one was really a terrible movie.

Nice!

First 2 goals were early in the 2nd and I missed both.

Special teams have looked excellent. Even on their lone PP in the 3rd they had some nice looks.

If I had one complaint it's that they came out a tad flat, but they absolutely dominated the 2nd

Solid win. First ever shutout of the Capitals in a home opener in DC.

One play stood out to me. It was on the power play. EK took the puck behind the Pens net and ending up going coast to coast. The caps defenders seemed prepared for him to pull up like most Pens PP players do but he made a little deft move and got a partial breakaway.

One of the Pens biggest problems on the PP is gaining the zone. EK is a master at it and it showed there. They scored a goal shortly thereafter.

Yeah, that is one of his strengths and something that made Kessel so valuable to the Pen's PP.
