First game against Utah Hockey Club for the franchise. UHC comes in on a three-game losing streak. Interestingly, half of the Utah starting defense are ex-Penguins - Olli Maatta, Ian Cole and Robert Bortuzzo. John Marino also plays for Utah but is on IR after October back surgery. Utah will likely start AHL call up Jaxson Stauber in goal.
No one checked a “career-defining stat” box against the Jets last night so those all still stand.
Pens play in Salt Lake City for the first time on December 29 if there are any Utah-based board members.

Sid with 600 goals. I swear he has scored 700 plus goals from that same spot over his career.
He smells the sweet spot and sets himself up 12 seconds before anyone else sees it coming.
55 years of NHL hockey(my life)and he still pulls the carpet out from under us.

I am getting strong 1982-1984 vibes from this team (83 points over those two seasons combined). Although the tank did lead to Mario coming and, most likely, keeping NHL hockey in Pittsburgh. Mike Bullard and Randy Carlyle were good players, the second year featured a 19-year old Bob Errey and I have to admit that watching Gary Rissling and Rod Buskas (I owned a Buskas sweater in high school LOL) play was a guilty pleasure. Nothing like seeing a bench-clearing brawl with 4,999 close friends at the Igloo in 1983.
