Pens vs. Isles, 1/16/15

Practice lines? Getting a little healthier every game (knocks on wood several times, crosses fingers.

Kunitz-Crosby-Perron
Spaling-Malkin-Bennett
Goc-Sutter-Downie
Sill-Arcobello-Adams

Martin-Letang
Harrington-Ehrhoff
Scuderi-Despres

I like seeing Harrington in there. Bortz has been kind of meh this season, and it would be nice to get Harrington some experience going into the playoffs. He's got some physicality, but he certainly doesn't seem like he's ready to skate consistently against very good/elite offensive talen. Plus, he really does fall down a lot. Anyway, big regular season game tonight, so let's go Pens!

The trickle-down effect of having Hornqvist back is going to be pretty awesome, I think.

Yes, it will mean we only have one useless player in our lineup. One of Sill and Adams will have to sit.

Downie is OK? Good if so.

Yup.
In his absence(Hornqvist) Malkin has been spending more time around the net. He(Malkin) had a great battle with Suter in the first period around the net. Just a great battle for about 20 seconds, both players giving their best. I believe the Pens scored their second goal on the next shift.

Big game tonight.

After Hornqvist's trickle-down, we get Comeau's trickle-down. That should about take care of the useless players. Again, rubbing a rabbit's foot with a wooden nickel every time I say it, but if healthy, this is the best, deepest forward group this team has put on the ice in a long time. Maybe pre-2008.

Huge game tonight. And team has faced some adversity since the last meeting and hopefully has learned some lessons for themselves. Can't wait for this one.

Should be a playoff type game, lets hope we can get a win against them this time!

Oh no what will we do without that first round pick next year?

Sid with two points.

What a transition after it looked like trouble was breaking in our zone. Just a nice all around play from one zone to the other on the first goal.

Ha, the PP is ALIVE.

2-0

Ballsy move by MAF coming out like that. Glad it didn't backfire to tie the game up. Such a great move bringing in Perron.

Fleury needs to be benched this game. He's been awful with the rebounds tonight,.

Team sleepwalking. A lot of bad efforts tonight. It all starts with #4, #14 and #29.

Hack we might have to change your name to KC. Sid has not gone to the net this year like he has in the past. He has done a great job of it tonight. No need to be an ass.

Spaling has been terrible tonight, Geno is playing with one wing. Can't wait for hornquist and comeau to come back.

Perron has been a great pickup

Downie can't do that shit in that situation. Unreal.

Islanders having a hell of a year to send off that building.

The look on MJ's face when Downie did that was priceless.

What a shitty 3rd period.

Isles are just better than us right now. Once we get healthy it should be a great matchup.

A lot of modern-day NHL Penguins classics in this one.

Classic Refs:
Penguins score 2 power play goals in the first then there's nothing...no penalties at all... for the rest of the game.
Players getting their sticks broken in half while attempting to shoot. Players getting their sticks knocked out of their hands.
Fleury getting run for the first two periods of the game, plowed into twice.

Classic Fleury:
Have a one-goal lead or trailing by a goal in a tight, highly-contested game? Don't worry! There's going to be a flukey fleury goal to ease the tension right away. The goal to tie the game at 3 was beyond awful. Fleurys rebound control tonight...I think a tennis racket could have done better.

The Penguins were dominating the beginning of the third with all the momentum. That goal opened the flood gates.

-Spalling was awful
-Kunitz was awful
-Scuderi still pisses his pants like a 15-year-old incontinent dog every time he has to do something with the puck. He was major contributor to goal #2
-Bennett didn't play well
-The third line and Goc at wing was a waste of ice time

This team needs to get healthy and stop playing scared of the Islanders. There was a lot of puck support from the Penguins at times, but not enough.

The ability to not shuffle four quality lines really hurt the team tonight.

My lord too... I honestly think this team might actually NEED a defensemen now that Maatta wont be back.

Unless they plan on starting Harrington the last 36+ games, then they probably need to invest in a bottom pairing vet.

Maybe with more work Harrington can be a solid bottom six. Also borts has been solid yet unspectacular.

Agree hack scuderi absolutely kills the breakout every time he touches the puck. He has been better this year but he still is not worth nearly what we are paying him. Fuck you shero

What amazes me is the hurry teams are in to dump these old arenas where the excitement is palpable and the fans are into it-- just so they can move to an expensive arena where true fans can't afford it and the atmosphere is not as good.

Normally i'd agree but that place is a dump, and by far the oldest building in the league. There are all sorts of horror stories about how shitty that place is. Same story as Mellon. For all the sentimental value the place was an antiquated dump and completely useless a multi-purpose venue. Neither building was able to generate the revenue streams required in modern sports to be financially competitive.

The Barclays Center won't be ideal either, although it's much nicer. The new building isn't built for hockey and has some obstructed view issues where if you sit in certain section at one end of the ice you can't see half of that zone. Also, the scoreboard that hangs over the ice isn't centered. More like it sits over one of the blue lines. They'll probably need to do some renovation if they want it to be the permanent home for the Isles.

I think the league is more interesting when the Isles are a good team. I'm happy they've turned the corner.

And the Penguins would be playing in Kansas City now.
Many fond memories in the igloo, but the seats were to small(for us big guys) and the walkways were too tight. Consul is might fine by me.

The Islanders are a better team than the Penguins right now. Over seven games, maybe not.

Scuderi needs to find a time machine and go back to around 1965-PBORE(pre Bobby Orr era) where his game would fit in. Either that or get him a mechanized walker that would add some speed to his slow feet.

He is good in the 'Carrier mode' where he is an escort and defensive tool to insulate the aircraft carrier on the PK. Fleury's nightie blanket.
Otherwise he is just killing us.
I'd rather go with Pouliot and his mistakes and give #4 a healthy scratch.

Despres had a bad game last night.
