1T) Lee Hunter 6’4 325 DT Texas Tech- “…I know… You’re a shoe salesman!” “Noooo, I'M A GREAT WHITE HOOTER HUNTER!” Big ‘sum bitch dominated practice in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama (then wisely bailed on the game). You can take the Tomlin out of Pittsburgh but not the 3-4 defense. Let’s try a beast in the middle this time around shall we (after trading down of course)?
2.) Chris Johnson 6’0 185 CB San Diego State- Hell yes I’ve actually seen a San Diego State game…but it was almost 30 years ago back when I lived out in Pacific Beach. Nice little campus up on the hill there overlooking the valley. Might have to trade up a little for this one, but the Steelers have some capital to play with.
3.) Malachi Fields 6’4 223 WR Notre Dame- Star WR down in Mobile this week. I’m going to dream of reuniting this acrobatic high flyer with CJ Carr next year and YOU-CAN’T-STOP-ME.
3.) Keylan Rutledge 6’4 320 OG Georgia Tech- Powerful, MEAN, NASTY bastard that did battle today with the now much ballyhooed Caleb Banks at what was a snoozer of a Senior Bowl. Plug and play when the Steelers lose Isaac Seumalo.
3T.) Jacob Rodriguez 6’1 230 LB Texas Tech- “Did you miss me, Al?” “So far with every shot.” Why break up a good thing? Rodriguez a playmaking Jesse behind our 1st round pick Lee Hunter. Buzzy player after a solid week of Senior Bowl practice but this pick is more about changing the Steelers’ country club culture. Enjoyed the Game Day piece about J’Rod and his wife who is a West Point grad and Blackhawk helicopter pilot. More than just a cool mustache, this kid was the leader of the upstart Red Raider run to the playoffs. Dig him.
3C.) Zakee Wheatley 6’2 200 S Penn State- Closing out a drunk Friday night of the draft to resounding cheers from the Happy Valley faithful in attendance in dahntahn Pittsburgh. Alpha type the Steelers severely lacking in the back 7. Steelers lost secondary coach Gerald Alexander to the Vikings. I’m trying real hard to give a rip.
4.) Bud Clark 6’2 185 S TCU- Another buzzy name this week down in Mobile. Read this kid is quite the personality. Slim reaper type of ball-hawking safety has 15 career ints 20 PBUs. Trade or cut bait with Jalen Ramsey. Not the needle moving trade Tomlin thought he was getting when he jettisoned my guy Minkah.
4C.) Skyler Bell 6’0 185 WR Uconn- Stat sheet filler that might remind Mike McCarthy of Donald Driver from back in his Packer Days.
5.) Oscar Delp 6’5 245 TE Georgia- "No Ma'am" Turns out I teach with a lady whose husband was one of Delp’s HS coaches. Don’t really care for her but I still found it interesting in a small world kind of way. Great kid. Criminally underused by stupid ass Georgia OC Mike Bobo.
6.) Mike Washington 6’2 223 RB Arkansas- "Let me tell you something, I served my country. I've played high school football, scored four touchdowns in a single game. Yet I'm not exempt from state and federal taxes. Is this any way America should treat us heroes?" Much traveled RB was the talk of Senior Bowl week. Versatile, hard charger could remind McCarthy of Ryan Grant who had some good seasons in Green Bay.
6C.) Max Llewellyn 6’5 263 EDGE Iowa- The Steelers tripled up on Hawkeyes last draft season with varying results (YOU SUCK, Kaleb!) Bigger, physical HUSTLER another buzzy player down in Mobile this week. Can’t have enough edge rushers especially if the Jogger going to keep stealing his paycheck. WAKE THE FUCK UP, TWatt!
7.) Deven Eastern 6’6 300 DL Minnesota- Row that boat dammit! Did I mention the Steelers are sticking with the 3-4? I know it’s just their base defense, but damn I was hoping for a total reset after the glorious news of Tomlin’s departure. Not this we do what we do for NHALS bullshit. “I am depressed.”
7C.) Dametrious Crownover 6’7 336 OT Texas A&M-"I'm so hungry, I'd eat a vegetable." Finally getting around to mocking a member of the “Maroon Goons.” Big ‘sum bitch that had some day 3 buzz down in Mobile this week. Hopefully, new Steelers’ OL coach James Campen is well rested from his coaching hiatus and ready to mold some clay.
