1.) KC Concepcion 5’11 190 WR Texas A&M- No relation to Dave (or any member of the Sunshine Band), this Aggie is a fun player. KC’s got some serious “Boogie Shoes.” Wicked quick with more moves than Mae West. Good route runner could make him a fit for the Mike McCarthy West Coast offense. Personally, I’d sign Jauan Jennings away from the 49ers leaving RD 1 open for BPA.
2.) Josiah Trotter 6’2 237 LB Missouri- The Steelers have a problem at the inside linebacker position. Queen is overrated and overpaid and Payton Wilson…well…Payton Wilson kinda sucks. Let’s right the ship with Jeremiah’s kid. Just like his pops, this kid hits like a Mack Truck. Dig him.
3.) Dominique Orange 6’4 325 DT Iowa State- “Again?” Sure why not. “Big Citrus” a much needed big body for the middle of whatever defense Pat Graham is going to run out there.
3.) Davison Igbinosun 6’2 193 CB Ohio State- “Again??” This Buckeye could be a fast riser after he blows up Indy. If not? Well, watching him and Joey Jr lead the league in DPI could be fun too.
3C.) Kaytron Allen 5’11 219 RB Penn State- Am I the only one who forgot the Steelers used (wasted) a 3rd round pick last year on Kaleb Johnson? Seriously, I’ve written several mocks now and completely forgot he was on the roster. Gawd awful pick.
4) Matt Gulbin 6’4 312 OL Michigan State- “Like a pimp says to his hoes, keep ‘em comin.” Does new OL guru James Campen have a type? Until I find out what that is I’m going to continue mocking versatile interior linemen to your once beloved Steelers. Sparty here has logged 21 games at both guard spots as well as 12 starts at center. Allowed a grand total of 5 pressures and zero sacks this past season.
4C) Michael Trigg 6’4 240 Pass Catcher Baylor- Ohhh yeah, now you’re captain skepteezmo. Of course this intriguing chess piece is a day 2 talent, BUT he could be in for a draft day slide. Physical specimen moves like a WR, but this much traveled (USC, Ole Miss) highlight reel also has some character concerns. Contact averse, this kid has some suspensions related to missing practice and a poor attitude. The next block he makes will be his first. Still, what a weapon. But the question remains does this potential unicorn enjoy playing football? I’ll roll the dice day 3 to find out.
5.) Malik Benson 6’1 195 WR Oregon- Yep, I really enjoyed the weekly college football threads here in the draft forum. One of many players I commented throughout the season was this Benson kid. Fast mover was a homerun hitter for the Ducks’ offense. Was really surprised to see he wasn’t at least a day 2 prospect so I’m calling this a grand larceny pick here on day 3.
6.) Skyler Thomas 6’2 212 S Oregon State- Back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest (man, I’m living in the wrong quadrant of the country) for this Senior Bowl standout. Captain of the Beaver defense, this kid is a physical player with a nose for the football.
6C) Aaron Graves 6’5 295 DE Iowa- Field of Dreams indeed. I guess we’re stuck with the 3-4. I so wanted a reset after Tomlin’s departure. Well, gotta go find those 5 techs. Steelers scouts hit Iowa hard last season so I’m sure this run stuffer is firmly planted on their radar.
7.) Riley Nowakowski 6’2 243 FB/TE Indiana – Hell yes, I sounded my funky horn when Tomlin split. HOPEFULLY, the nepotism goes with him. Get Connor Heyward off my team. I’m assuming McCarthy’s version of the West Coast offense will use some sort of fullback so let’s take a day 3 dart throw on a National Champion.
7C) Joe Fagnano 6’4 225 QB UConn- A bad QB class got worse after Trinidad Chambliss won his appeal. I know not what the Steelers will do at the most important position in all of sports, but I do know even the most classless of yinzers will NOT be chanting “FAAAAAAG” for this 25 year old day 3 Hail Mary pick.
Thanks as always for reading. Please comment on the players you like and those you don’t. The offseason is a painfully slow one. Not a great a free agent class, but I’ll be beating the Jauan Jennings drum until I see the Steelers take the predictable sit on their hands approach to free agency.
