Off Season Primer: Wide Receiver

Ahh, what could’ve been

Pickens and Metcalf catching balls from future HOF qb Aaron Rodgers.

Tomlin and Uncle Artie could neuter Jerry Rice and Randy Moss so it was never going to be the dynamic duo most thought it would.

Anyway

I didn’t think trading a 2nd round pick for DK Metcalf was out of line, but the 30+ mil per was WAY out of whack. The Uncle Artie excuse is legit, but man DK was a big miss even before his altercation with the blue wig dude.

Now, trading Crazy George for only a 3rd round pick kinda annoyed me mostly because K-H-A-N (he’s not a hot dog) waited until AFTER the draft to consummate the trade with Jerry. Shit-off stupid move that left the Steelers grossly undermanned at WR yet AGAIN.

Time to get this right, Omar.

But how?

Free Agents:

George Pickens- Top WR on the market and it’s not close. The team that pays Crazy George north of $30 mil per has WAY more balls than I do. “Obviously” that team won’t be the Pittsburgh Steelers. Clearly, they had enough of that guy.

Jauan Jennings- Yes please. Physical dude would be a solid compliment to DK. Sportrac set his market value at $22 mil per. What say you?

Alec Pierce- “Hey Whitey! Where’s your hat?” Colts drafted this Bearcat one pick after Pickens. I kinda like him, but I’m not smart enough to tell you he’s a great fit for McCarthy’s version of the West Coast Offense.

Rashid Shaheed- Khan supposedly inquired with the Saints at the deadline, but we all know he didn’t offer more than a bottle of ketchup (I’m sooo done with Omar). Sportrac has a $14 mil per market price for this super fun playmaker, but Shaheed has already stated his desire to return to Seattle. We’ll see. Money talks.

Romeo Doubs- Often rumored to be a Steelers trade target, now possible FA acquisition. I’m all for player safety, but I can’t express my disdain for the poor visual that is the guardian cap.

Tyreek Hill- Also has a $14 mil per market value but his knee was all kinds of shredded. Hard pass for me, but it only takes one team to go big name hunting.

Mike Evans- HOFer is limping toward the end of his stellar career. If the Steelers were a contender, I might beat this drum, but since they’re not it’s a no brainer to leave him for the Bills or retire a Buc.

Wandale Robinson- “5 foot 9? I didn’t know they stacked shit that high.” This little Giant posted consecutive 90+ catch seasons playing for one of the worst franchises in football. Not sure he’d even unseat little Calvin so I’d spend my money elsewhere.

Deebo Samuel- Redskins offense fell apart along with Jayden Daniels frail body. Deebo offers semi-big name cache but these washed up dudes not what your Steelers need going forward.

Tyquan Thornton- Belichick drafted this bust 2 spots ahead of Pickens. Showed signs of life this past season with the Chefs. Spry fella that offers big play potential near the back of the WR room.

Jahan Dotson- Hell no he didn’t touch the ball in Philly. Nobody did because Jalen Hurts sucks goat balls.

Trades/Potential Cut Candidates:

Brian Thomas- Would the real BTJ please stand up? After bursting on the scene as a rookie, this explosive Jag slumped badly during T-Law’s long awaited breakout season. Would take a high draft pick or Herbig/Highsmith. “Would that be something you might be interested in?”

AJ Brown- DK’s former college teammate has been most unhappy in Philly. Buffalo and the Pats seems to be the leading trade candidates. Broken record I am, but this is a trade a contender makes. Your Steelers aren’t it.

Jaylen Waddle- Former Bama stud I’ve seen play in person many times, but just like in college, Waddle has struggled to stay healthy in the pros. I’m guessing his high salary precludes Khan from acquiring him anyway.

DJ Moore- The emergence of Luther Burden makes this vet expendable.

Michael Pittman- Rumor has it the Colts are looking to dump Pittman’s $24 mil salary this offseason. Solid pro type that I’d endorse at a bargain price.

Brandon Aiyuk- Yikes. WTF happened there? Sounds like Khan’s boy doesn’t have both ores in the water. Thankfully failed trade attempt takes a tiny bit of the sting off the DK trade. My guess? Aiyuk reunites with his former college teammate Jayden Daniels in Washington.

Stefon Diggs- Pats could look to part ways, but 5 baby mamas? That’s a lot of diapers dude. I’m just not fan of paying big $ to these guys that don’t have their life in order. He’s washed anyway.

Calvin Ridley- Gambling degenerate appeared to get his life in order during his stint in Nashville.

Rashee Rice- I’m just letting you know, that I know, the Chiefs could release this scumbag with the quickness. Good football player that your Steelers won’t touch with a ten foot pole.

Ladd McConkey- Another victim of a sophomore slump. I’d throw the Chargers a bone. Doesn’t hurt to see what they’d want for this damn good ‘Dawg.

Jordan Addison- Another WR that doesn’t have his life together off the field. Could become available if the Vikes have had enough.

Chris Olave- Long rumored trade candidate might be off the table now that the Saints have found a QB.

Draft Prospects (Deep Pool):

Carnell Tate Buckeyes- So funny to hear the pundits say he played second fiddle. Newsflash fellas, every WR in the country (not named Cam Coleman) would play second fiddle to Jeremiah Smith. Would require a big trade up.

Makai Lemon USC- “What are you looking at, nerd?” “I thought I was looking at my mother’s old douchebag but that’s in Ohio.” Clutch playmaker for the uber-douche that is Lincoln Riley. Also will require a rd 1 trade up.

Jordan Tyson Sun Devils- Now this playmaker COULD fall to the Steelers if teams shy away from his knee injury. I still think the big 3 are out of reach though.

Denzel Boston Huskies- The RD 1 drop off starts here. Son of David plays a physical brand of 50/50 ball. Combine will be big for him.

KC Concepcion Aggies- No relation to Dave or any member of the Sunshine Band. Quick and shifty, could be a fun fit in McCarthy’s west coast offense.

Omar Cooper National Champ- Iconic TD to beat Penn State made Gus Johnson choke on his vape. Fast riser getting 1st round buzz.

Chris Bell Louisville- AJ Brown type of build could fall further than he should due to his knee injury. Highly productive YAC guy. Dig him big time with that RD 2 pick.

Chris Brazzell Vols- using every inch of his 6’5 frame to leap over or blow past defenders. Type cast due to triple chin Heupel’s gimmicky offense. Another kid I’d pound the table for with that round 2 pick.

Germie Bernard Roll Tide- Fun player that lined up everywhere for the destructor of the house that Saban built. YOU SUCK, Kalen!

Ted Hurst Georgia State- Oh please, you never saw a Georgia State game either, but this Senior Bowl star has quite the fun highlight reel.

Malachi Fields Fightin’ Irish- Big bodied receiver also impressed down in Mobile. Could be in play with one of those three 3rds.

Brenen Thompson Miss State- Will break 40 watches in Indy this week. On the smallish side, I’ve soured on these types thanks to the bust that is Roman Wilson and little Calvin Austin.

Antonio Williams Clemson- STFU, DABO! Been a minute since Clemson has produced a viable NFL WR. Versatile playmaker I’d love to steal in RD 3.

Skyler Bell Uconn- STFU Hurley! Oh wait that’s basketball. Still an unlikable toolbox. Bell here a stat sheet filler meriting day 2 consideration.

Zachariah Branch Georgia- Dawg via USC another kid that will dazzle in Indy this week. Too much of a gadget player for my liking, but in his defense crappy ass Georgia OC Mike Bobo knew not what to do with him.

Kevin Coleman Mizzou- Another undersized but highly productive WR that is getting post season buzz of late. A day 3 pick I’d be all kinds of applauding.

Elijah Sarratt National Champion- Clutch gene player was Fernando’s security blanket. Not going to turn heads this week in Indy, but kid’s a football player.

Bryce Lance North Dakota State- Trey’s brother was once upon a time a round 1 pick. High flyer could sneak into end of night two conversation with good Combine.

Kaden Wetjen Iowa- Lazy Steelers scouts have no doubt ventured back to Iowa City to watch this little white fella excel on special teams.

Eric McAllister TCU- “GREAT HORNY TOADS!” Read a stat this kid finished only behind CeeDee Lamb in last ten years with a 18.2 yds per catch average.

Malik Benson Oregon- Don’t sleep on this Duck. Homerun hitter to watch for early day 3.

Jordan Hudson SMU- would amuse me on some level if the Patriots drafted this dude

Jeff Caldwell Cinci- I’ll leave you with one to watch in Indy this week. 6’5 Feldman freak boasts an 11’9 broad jump.

Thanks as always for reading. Please comment on the wide receivers you like and those you don’t. The Steelers need to add at least two receivers to their barren WR room. Any suggestions on who they should target?

Makai Lemon....Dudley Dawson???

Took me a second to figure out the connection, then it hit me. Nerds filmed at USC. I must be slipping in my old age.

These position breakdowns are fantastic, thank you!
In their current state, I hate everything about this organization.

If MM stays to form, he will be looking at WR that are 6'2 or bigger. This will cut down that list quite a bit

• Eric McAllister TCU- “GREAT HORNY TOADS!” Read a stat this kid finished only behind CeeDee Lamb in last ten years with a 18.2 yds per catch average.
He also finished just behind Antonio Brown and Chris Henry in scary gun charges.

Again….thank you for your efforts drama.

My hope is there’s a F/A they’re going to target filling that WRII position before the draft.

Tyson would be my first draft target perhaps in a trade or Boston around their draft slot.

My hope is there are a couple more receivers in the day 2/3 rounds they draft as well.

Jalen Coker, Jalen Nailor, Romeo Doubs are my favorites in F/A….

I like moore but thats a high price to pay for a WR on the back nine of his career.
