This Draft Class
I don’t know if I’m having some sort of PTSD from this recently concluded Steelers season, but something weird is happening to me as I look over this draft class... I’m beginning to think it’s the best draft class in years.
Now maybe I’m like a hungry dog that hasn’t eaten in weeks and everything looks delicious, but this is the first time since the 2010 draft class (where everyone was rushing to declare so they could avoid the new rookie salary cap) that I pretty much have a real top 50 of guys I really love.
So, of course, it’s a year where the Steelers have little draft capital! I am waiting to see what transpires from the FA season and the new CBA that’s about to be finalized... but I’m thinking this would have been a great year to rebuild/restock. I love Minkah and what he’s brought so I’m not criticizing that move, but I sure hope the Steelers find some later gems like they did in 2010.
1 Maurkice Pouncey
2 Jason Worilds
3 Emmanuel Sanders
4 Thaddeus Gibson
5 Chris Scott
5 Crezdon Butler
5 Stevenson Sylvester
6 Jonathan Dwyer
6 Antonio Brown
7 Doug Worthington
Aside from the obvious Antonio Brown selection, Steelers got a few contributors and Manny Sanders—all after pick 50. Add Steve McClendon as a UDFA and it was a pretty good result. Hopefully, this year can be at least as successful—but I’d take a couple of extra picks in this draft any way you can come by then.

change of heart there B2B?
From personal experience, I know it's a lot more fun to do Steelers mocks with a ton of picks. but.
Looking at this current roster, there's less dead weight than ever, especially at the bottom of the 53.
I think this would be a really good year to move up and find some higher quality specific replacements/upgrades to high-ticket guys they have on roster.

Yes. The Steelers needs are not many so that part I still agree with, but yes I’m definitely in the stage where I wish we had more picks plans not fewer. I predict when 49 comes around, there will be several players on the board who would be great picks.

This class is really deep in WR,CB, IDL, IOL, RB,OT. If the Steelers pick a IOL or RB in the 2nd they would be getting 1st round talent. Perhaps at OT as well but that position is overvalued.

Is it a forgone conclusion Bud Dupree is brought back?
I think this class is deep at edge rusher.
Depth is needed even if Bud is resigned

Really? Senior Bowl alone has a lot of quantity. Quality always a debate. Size prerequisites for 3-4 edge all listed. Not sure if all such as Willekes and Robinson for example can transition athletically, however. Hence the enjoyable debate that is draft season.jebrick wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 12:21 pmbut it is not deep in 3-4 OLBSteeldrama wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 1:16 amIs it a forgone conclusion Bud Dupree is brought back?

Anae is the best of that bunch and he's projected as a hand in the dirt 4-3 DE (the comp people make is Maxx Crosby)
I like Uche but I think his fit is at off-ball LB. He has the most value to a 4-3 team that plays him like Von Miller.
I don't believe in anyone under 240 being able to win as an NFL EDGE until proven otherwise. In fact, if you're under 250, you'd better test like you're on the moon.
Maybe you could pick up an edge this year and maybe Adeniyi or Skipper takes a big step forward this off-season, but Bud is already so good at all the various parts of his game. Great vs run last two seasons, which is no small thing. Steelers have to pick their holes to fill, for sure, but I think they'll at least try to keep the defensive band together.

Point is any EDGE you take for the Steeler system has to be drafted on pure physical talents and hope they can learn ( a la Dupree). For all of these EDGE players I need to look at their explosiveness. There are some that the Steelers are not going to sniff.
K'Lavon Chaisson EDGE, LSU - Has played 3-4 OLB
Julian Okwara EDGE, Notre Dame
Zack Baun is not a EDGE player in the NFL. He will be an off the ball LB in a 4-3. He has zero bend. Might as well put 2x4s on either side of his ankles.

Jervis had some serious physical talent.
