First 2015 Mock

Post by Steelperch » Mon Oct 06, 2014 3:57 pm

Assuming a few things here: The Steelers sign somebody in free agency to start at LOLB be it Worilds or an outside free agent. They also get a 4th round comp pick for Emmanuel Sanders.

1. Spencer Drango, OT, Baylor Very good feet, natural LT. Good size as well, no holes to his game. He missed a lot of time last year due to disk injury in his back which drops him down the board. Assuming he clears medically I think he jumps back up into the middle of round 1 as he's projected as a 2nd rounder right now. I know the defense sucks and needs bodies, but I'm tired of the offense having to change the game plans to compensate for tackles they know can't protect the QB.

2. Marcus Peters, CB, Washington The Steelers have had a Pro Bowl player at every position except CB over the last 10 years. They also haven't drafted a corner in the top 2 rounds in the last 10 years either. Peters is big, physical, makes plays on the ball, and is a sure tackler. He'd fit in nicely.

3. Hau'oli Kikaha, OLB, Washington One of the sack leaders in NCAA. He's got natural pass rushing ability, but also has torn his left ACL twice which drops him into the 3rd round range. I considered Markus Golden here as well, but I think Golden ends up in the 2nd round.

4. Titus Davis, WR, Central Michigan Davis is 6'3 and has speed to burn. The 3 time All MAC receiver averages nearly 19 yards per catch for his career. Justin Brown and Lance Moore aren't the answer in the 3 WR sets. If Davis and Martavius Bryant develop the Steelers could have a very nice and diverse Top 4 WR group.

4c. Ben Koyack, TE, Notre Dame The Oil City, PA native has been buried on the depth chart behind Tyler Eifert and Troy Niklas despite being the nation's #1 rated TE coming out of high school. He's solid in all phases if not great in any one area. Koyack can fill in as the #2 TE if Spaeth is not brought back.

5. Anthony Chickilo, DE, Miami A sturdy and durable player that excels vs the run and offers some pass rush ability. Not a flashy player, but very steady and reliable. The team needs depth to finally push Keisel off the roster.

6. Dominique Brown, RB, Louisville Blount will be in the final year of his Steelers contract and Bell needs a solid backup. Hell, the team needs a legitimate 3rd RB on the roster. Brown is not explosive, but is a durable one-cut runner that gets positive yards and could start in a pinch.

7. Isaiah Johnson, SS, Georgia Tech Coming off of knee surgery. Johnson has good size and has shown solid all-around play making ability. Will serve as the back-up SS to Shamarko Thomas as Polamalu heads to retirement (hopefully).

Honestly Perch all I had to see was LT with the first pick and liked it immediately.

Excellent first go around Perch. Addressed all the major needs early. OT, CB and OLB.

Figured I'd stir up some draft talk. It's a little lonely over here in the draft forum while Uncle FC is playing retired. Are his 18 days up yet?

Thanks Perch. Actually I haven't had the time to invest in scouting anyone lately (not that I was even a novice at it to begin with) so I occasionally peek in here from time to time. It's refreshing change from the zone blitz forum at times. :)

Can't we knock that down to today ends his retirement? For as much as Ziv was hated by some I really grew interested in what scouting he had done as well. Another good opinion of talent out there I thought.

Thanks Perch

Been looking out for FC's mocks of late ( really miss them)

I am in the Scherff camp at the moment for round 1. Havent watched any Drango tape. ( will get onto that)

I too rate Marcus Peters highly. ( he is this years Kyle Fuller for me and I would be happy to take him in the first)

High on Ben Koyack as well. Good blocker who can get out and make the important catches ( ask Stanford about that one)

Still trying to get my assessment of Kikaha figured out. I am leaning toward Mauldin at this point.

Great to see that mocks are still alive and kicking.

I think this subforum is easily one of the most valuable parts of this site. Many thanks to the handful of guys here who really put in a lot of time and effort sharing their insight and opinions about NFL draft prospects with the unwashed masses like myself.

If move the TE up to the 3rd round pick, and go OLB at 4b.

A draft with no Big Ten picks? Never!

Kidding. Love the positions, and the order. Like Koyack a lot. In a weak TE year, I could see some underclassmen coming out and shaking the position up a little.

I would hope that Peters is still available for us in the 2nd by seasons end.

The Ohio State TE is made for the Steelers. Good blocker and not explosive.

Got to see Titus Davis in person a few weeks back. Nice looking player, had 6 catches for 130 against Toledo.

Heuerman or Vanette? Both very much fit the mold you describe, Vanette with a little bit more wiggle and receiving upside, Heuerman with a little bit better blocking. They are both very similar.

I would like to see Jesse James wearing the Black and Gold in 2015.

Heuerman. i would like to see Jesse James in Black&Gold as well but I think it is more likely that i will see Heuerman's name be called when the Steelers pick.
