Offensive Guard
Three guesses as to who PFF’s top rated free agent guard is and the first two don’t count
Yep
Kevin Freakin Dotson
I knew you’d get it first try
Y'all are so smart, gifted even
Nice player development there, Tomlin.
Anyway, unless the Steelers shift one of their guards to center, I’m guessing guard won’t be a very high priority this off season.
I wrote most of this last night while finishing up the gawd awful True Detective (Jodie Foster cannot act) but saw a Depot article this morning suggesting the possibility of moving James Daniels over to center stating he played there at Iowa.
Seumalo and Herbig have some center experience as well.
I mean, I guess the Steelers could do that if they miss out on a center in the draft or just feel quality guards are easier to find.
Just feels like moving Daniels fills a hole then creates another one, but he can’t be any worse than Mason Freakin’ Cole.
Regardless, the Steelers gotta field their best 5 linemen and build quality depth since they’re going to be no worse than top 5 in rushing attempts this season.
Some guard options should the Steelers be so inclined:
• Kevin Dotson Rams- He ain’t comin back
• Robert Hunt Dolphins- Big ‘sum bitch. Road grater type.
• Kevin Zeitler Rats- Gotta play for Steelers to complete his sweep of AFC North
• Ezra Cleveland Jags- Has some OT experience as well
• Jon Runyan Packers- Tomlin and NFL bloodlines
• Jonah Jackson Lions- Injured in playoffs when Lions needed him most
• John Simpson Rats- Poach from division rival. Powerful dude right here.
• Damian Lewis Seahawks- Another big, mauler type.
• Graham Glasnow Lions- back to the Motor City for a quality guard.
• Mike Onwenu Pats- OT could kick inside.
• Andrus Peat Saints- Big, fragile sum bitch who can run block
• Matt Feiler Bucs- Versatile former Steeler
• Cam Fleming Broncos- Another versatile type Tomlin doth so diggith
• Dalton Risner Vikings- Struggled to find a job last year before landing with Vikes
• Cody Whitehair Bears- Recently cut offers guard/center experience
• Brian Allen Rams- Starting center also recently cut offers guard experience
• I’m probably missing a name or 3 but this feels like a good start
Combine week!
• Troy Fautanu UW- I still think he can stay at LT
• Graham Barton Duke- Center/Guard/Tackle all rolled into one
• Cooper Beebe KST- Big dude doesn’t offer position versatility
• Christian Haynes UConn- Small dude offers position versatility
• Dom Puni Kansas- OT projected to OG/OC.
• Sataoa Laumea Utes- Another OT projected to OG
• Isaiah Adams Illinois- Ohhh Canada (Not you Matt, ya half-a-meatball). Another OT projected to OG
• Chris Mahogany BC- Shrine Bowl standout played some center
• Zak Zinter scUM- Broke his leg vs Buckeyes. Redshirt candidate
• Trevor Keegan scUM- Mean dude right here
• Trente Jones scUM- Smaller, athletic type
• LaDarius Henderson scUM-OT to guard
• KT Leveston KST- More OTs converting to guards
• Brandon Coleman TCU- and another OT to guard convert
• Layden Robinson Texas A&M- No more Dan Moore’s please.
• Javion Cohen Canes- Bama transfer so I’m a fan by default
• Mason McCormick South Dakota St- offers guard/center versatility
• Gottlieb Ayedze Terps- Friend of Dino? Flintstones fan?
• Matthew Jones Buckeyes- Tomlin hasn’t poached from his farm team lately
• The rest I leave up to you and the highly anticipated, highly informative, SteelerFury board mock
Thanks as always for reading. Please comment on the players you like and those you don’t. Hopefully, the NFL network improves their coverage for the combine because their Senior Bowl coverage was very JV if you will.

Ahhh the Rig. One of my favorite Steelers. I still remember Myron talking him up before the draft/

I think this is a great G class/great IOL class overall. Something yet TBD is if they're really going to turn over the reins to Arthur Smith running what he wants, in which case Semualo isn't going to be starting long. He played well last year but he's the opposite of an Outside Zone G.
Daniels on the other hand fits that kind of system better than what they were running.

I'm a Trevor Keegan fan myself. Not sure we're drafting a guard, but I dig him for the reason you mentioned....a nasty demeanor.
