u right; how man years of control do they have on bell? I can imagine a floundering buc team at trade deadline with an all star triple crown candidate bell and the haul of prospects they could get?

Someone like Pro or maybe Jeemie could answer that one better than me. Bell has been with the Pirates, what...3-4 seasons?

After the Buccos fritter away most of an 8-0 lead (8-6), Bell with another dinger...

Bell’s arbitration years start next season. Bucs control him thru 2022. But with the way he is developing that last arbitration year in 2022 will be pretty costly. These cheap fuckers will deal him long before then.

and Melky ! what a pick up there this is proving.
-42 run differential and over 500 record is amazing!

Yup, he'll be DHing for the Red Sox or Yankees in three years maybe two.

I watch the Pirates from afar but I like to laugh at the three-prong mental retardation from coaching staff, GM, and owner.
I have two questions for y'all that actually waste time watching this shit.

1) Why doesn't the team send Cole Tucker down to play every day in AAA instead of hitting like .150 here? Kevin Newman is hitting .300+ and has a 0.8 WAR compared to Tucker's -0.6, which suggests any defensive benefit from Tucker is getting outweighed by Newman's superior hitting. I'm sure there's some fodder guy they can call up as a utility player now instead of Tucker. Like Jake Elmore plays every position. So...yeah. If they need another fielder, they could have Osuna ride the pine and play 3B when they need him. Just seems like a really basic, simple thing they could do to get one of their better prospects more at bats.

2) I've always been of the understanding that teams typically have a long reliever/mop-up guy that can go 3+ innings in a pinch. It doesn't surprise me that Hurdle is doing faggoty shit like an Opener when he doesn't seem to have the personnel currently for an opener. So, I guess I'm a bit confused as to why the Pirates never stretched Liriano out during Spring Training so he could be that spot starter and long reliever. Seems like it would be kind of a good idea because Liriano has been a starter nearly his whole career and has had success with the Pirates for years as a starter. Weren't there a bunch of available, bargain bin free agent starting pitchers ( and free agents in general) available this offseason? Seems like the Pirates could have grabbed a few more of those so they wouldn't be throwing AAAA players out there to open games against one of the hottest offensive teams in baseball. Something, something money.

Just seems like two kinda no-brainer things
