If this doesn't sum up the state of the Pirates, nothing does

https://fansided.com/pirates-spend-more ... aul-skenes

It sums the Pirates up in many ways.

They're about to spend more to get this card than to get new blood to help the Pirates contend. Likely leading to Skenes' tepid response when he was asked if he would consider a long term deal with Pittsburgh.

Also, estimates are the card could fetch $1-$2 million at auction. The Pirates' total package...to an 11 year old from Los Angeles...totals less than $1 M.

So they're lowballing a kid.

Finally, they're doing this because Skenes made it be known through his reps that he wants the card.

So they're lowballing a kid (and offering him something that as a non-Pirate fan he may not even want) to try and get a card their star pitcher wants, but they might not get it because their offer is shit.

If there's another way they are fucking this up that I failed to catch, feel free to pile on with it.

WTF happened between 2015 and now? I thought we fired all the other guys because we wanted to do better than they were doing, instead we are doing worse, if it can be believed. Generational talent falls into our lap and we do absolutely nothing to build around him. It's the dream of a small market team, get a talent like Skenes, a lottery ticket, that you can use to buck the odds and beat the system. But no. We sit around and hope that Jack Suwinski regains his form. It's frustrating, I'll tell you that. And then there is all this little petty shit that comes out, like the situation with Rowdy at the end of the season. Stuff like this, plus being super cheap, no one of worth wants to sign here.

How can you put up 5 years of failure with very little progress in sight other than luck and tell us that we're improving. It's gaslighting 101. What's happened to our Pgh teams, man. From the ownership on down they are all rotting. It's tougher and tougher to root for unlikeable players and coaches for the most part. I'll do it, but I couldn't find it in me to start up a 2025 thread like last year when I had some legitimate hope that things were improving at PNC Park. This year? Nah. Like George Pickens' response when asked if he was optimistic for next year. I'll get there when the pitches start hurling, but right now it's tough to get very excited about this team. And stories like this just make it worse and worse.

Pirates failed to acquire the card...it's going up for auction.

So they couldn't even do that right.

Adam Frazier and Tommy Pham.

Not even trying to put a good team around Skenes.

These scumbags don't give 2 fucks about anything but making more money. If they spend they will lose money and that's not their business.
