RIP James Ingram

Post by Legacy User » Sun Feb 03, 2019 4:31 pm

One of the great soul singers passed away this week without a getting a fraction of the attention that Aretha Franklin's passing did.

Just Once is one of the few perfect pop songs in existence. Great music and lyrics by Mann and Weil (On Broadway), great production by Quincy Jones and grand slam vocal by Ingram.

One of the strangest memories I have of the eighties is the use of that song in the Last American Virgin. Which was awkward yet strangely appropriate. It's a very bad movie until the last five minutes which is probably the most honest unexpected well-acted endings EVER in a teen movie. Actually a very valuable lesson for any guy thinking about playing nice guy save a hoe. I'm having trouble linking to the Youtube ending of that movie but if someone can...

TLAV is a brilliant movie.

I like the whole thing but I agree, the ending is downright unbelievable for an 80's teen movie.

Still stuns.

Ingram was a nice pop/soul singer but let's not get crazy. His passing didn't get massive attention for a reason.

I think TLAV is a bad movie with a great, stunning ending. I haven't seen the original Israel movie that it was based on. And Diane Franklin was perfectly cast. She "seemed" sweet.

I'd rather listen to Ingram's greatest hits, than Aretha's, even though admittedly, the QOS had a bigger following.

Here's something brand new for that ass, Dan. Now that we've lost Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley, only Lee Moses remains from the original soul revival crew. These guys are new and incredible.

I LOVE these dudes. FIRE live. Straight FIRE. Snappy snares, snappy horns and the bass lines walk. This is the real shit.
