Any Tomlin defenders left?
Re: Any Tomlin defenders left?
I have been giving him the benefit of the doubt, but now it's 7 years since he won a Super Bowl with Cowher's team, enough is enough, I agree with firing his ass, even though the Rooneys have that stupid "NEVER fire the coach (even if he sucks)" rule!
His current team is JUST #7 Ben, carrying the whole show to possibly 10-6 or 11-5, and if he's out, it's a pale imitation of the Kordell Era Steelers, except with way less defense to carry their non-scoring asses, feeling if they stay lucky they might go 8-8. Other than WRs he drafts mostly crappy players and can't develop them. And his in game decisions are schizophrenic at best.
He won't be going anywhere, but he needs to get the fuck out! Don't ask me who will replace him, I don't know? Do a search at the end of the year LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE DOES when their coach is failing. I never worry about "be careful what you wish for" when things get bad enough, sometimes rolling the dice, and risking getting even worse, is better than an unsatisfying status quo.

Just wait until Ben retires and "Kotite" Tomlin is exposed.
Just wait.
Just wait.

110% agree, just wait until these masterminds try to replace Ben! Just picture the type of choices they will make?

So SICK and TIRED of hearing that he goes "by his gut" when making on-field decisions.
He and "his gut" are a laughing stock.
His gut has been proven untrustworthy time and again, IMO mostly because the head that floats over it is way too full of self-righteous pride and mind boggling arrogance.
This embarrassing fool has got to go!
...maybe a good firing will humble him to the point that he could one day be a good coach somewhere else,
but, seriously, it's beyond repair in Pittsburgh, and it will only get worse at this point...
A coach of any other NFL team that has pulled the shit Mike Tomlin has in the name of "his gut" would have been shit canned years ago, regardless of the color of his skin...

Le'Veon NEVER got any short yardage carries. All Vicks throws HAD to be short of the sticks.
4th and 2 at the rats 39 Vick run left giving the rats time to pursue when Vick had already shown he can get caught from behind... and they put the game on his legs instead of handing the ball to their superstar elusive RB.
The 3rd down short throw to non elusive DHB on a route that was short of the sticks. Crap.

Yeah, any decent coach would be just as successful without literally the most irreplaceable player on his team. The Patriots won't miss a beat once Brady retires. I'm shocked more coaches don't just randomly bench their franchise QBs to show off their coaching skills, to be honest.

I though BB coached up Matt Cassel pretty well in 2008. Or was that cheating?

by the way, Mike Tomlin's record without Ben is 9-8... it's not like he's getting his ass handed to him or failing to live up to that Patriots 10-6 season.
Consider for a moment the number of games of that 17 started by guys who weren't even the #2 at the start of the year.

And also consider that several of those game were decided by 3 points or less. It's not good enough for some people that Tomlin has been able to overcome the absence of his franchise QB and give his team an above-average opportunity to win games with backup QBs, he's a terrible coach if he lets obvious limitations at the QB position influence his decisions in any way.

Honest question - do you guys watch other NFL games very much?
Tomlin's got some warts, but take a look around at the landscape of coaches. You think this is the only team that gets questioned on situational playcalls and clock management?
To me, it's telling that 2 coaches in the top 30 all-time in Win %, Mike Tomlin and Bill Cowher, are hated by a proportion of the hardcore fan base. They both have and had their share of fuck ups, but look around and get some damn perspective - way better than most. Spoiled by Chuck Noll and by success in general.
I think the job req's of a NFL head coach has a long list of pretty disparate qualities needed and it's nearly impossible to find a guy that checks all the boxes. So, in almost every case you get a guy who has some strengths and some weaknesses and you pray like hell the former outweigh the latter.

They don't. When they declare Tomlin terrible, the worst, an idiot, etc., they aren't comparing Tomlin to actual people who have coached NFL teams, they're comparing his decision against the "right" decision as confirmed by hindsight.

To be honest though, I'd trust Belechik to put the proper priority and effort into getting another worthy QB ASAP, much more so than the Stillers! I expect the Stillers will stumble around with various Kordells and Kent Graham clones for a decade and not make getting a real QB a matter of serious urgency.

You don't need to check every box.
You can hire someone to consult for game management. You can talk to him during the game and everything. Even Bill Belichick has a guy for this job.
Our guy has literally given up on trying to defend his decisions. It's pathetic.

Tomlin has no idea what he's doing late in games, inconsistent is right.
It was maddening. There were times they had 3rd and 3...3rd and 2, they're throwing short of the sticks. How is that even possible?

I agree they should do that. This is my chief complaint with Tomlin.

Could say the same about the Steelers. Textgate last night.
Besides it's easy and lazy to claim they cheat all the time.

You mean Ben looking at a QB wristband?
You're trying way too hard.
Tomlin said in the post-game that mistakes were made and they would learn from them. I'm certain he will.
Next time faced with a 3rd and 2 to win the game I'll bet he goes with the RB.
Except the RB will be Dri Archer and the QB will be Ben.
And some of you are actually thinking that would would never happen right about now...

Yep...probably call a draw to Archer that gets blown-up for a 5-yd loss. Or run Bell behind Mike Adams at RT. The commonality that keeps rearing it's ugly head is Tomlin will rely on a JAG - be it Trai Essex blocking a QB sweep or Mike Vick throwing a long out across his body - rather than let his stars be stars.
3rd and 2 and a first down wins....Presented that opportunity before the game, EVERYONE on this board would have taken their chances with handing off to Bell twice. Plus you got a mulligan?!? FOUR chances to pick-up two yards with Bell...with Vick as your QB, you thank your lucky stars and make the no-brainer decison.
