Well... in the least Gilbert is seeing the field. Finding a groove. Personally, I want to see what he has on defense. I guess that's to be determined at a later date. Just don't run backwards is all I ask.

I'll give the guy a break after his brainfart in the KC game. Could have cost us dearly.

Yah i'll give the guy a break on that return also. Guy returned what? 1 kick all year before that game, 1 that game...then they said OK you're back all alone on your 3rd return of the year and this is only biggest kickoff of the season.
Not unlike forcing wheaton into action last year after not returning 1 punt the entire season.

At least Gilbert actually returned kicks in college.
I'd have him and Ayers back there, personally...Ayers was a pretty damn good college returner.
However, Coates has been back there all year, so...
And we'll probably see some return chances. New England likes to kick the ball high and have it come down at the five...although they do get their fair share of touchbacks too.

I wonder if he's had continued losing washed off of him yet. Maybe that's why tomlin held him out.
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.

Well he (sort of) owned up to his mistake...although he there Eli under the bus a little bit.

I still like the idea of Coates back there for some reason. Just think he's got the speed once he makes a cut and the strength to run through some tackles.

At least someone is thinking and we're trying to improve this position.

other than running backwards on the last kickoff he did a more than decent job, find the seam, 1 cut and go north, no more east, west and especially south running.

The Steelers' singular obsession with trotting out slow, plodding backup RBs for kickoff duties is one of the true mysteries of the 21st Century. Pretty much anyone else back there is an upgrade so I am very pleased with this development. Gilbert has the talent to take one to the house.
Come on, a lot a coaches would use Crappy Davis on kick return if they were fortunate enough to have him on their roster...
I agree with the Gilbert/Ayers combo.

Well said. I've never understood this and it happens year after year.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
