Pens vs. Preds...SCF, Game #1
Note on Hockey Central....3 more games for Penguins, but all of the accolades for Preds blue line....Preds defenders have 42 points in playoffs; Pens blue-liners have 37.

Hornquist is in the lineup tonight.....bit of a surprise, IMO, looks as though Hagelin is the healthy scratch.

DK thinks it may be Guentzel- I am ok with this. Need Sheary and Hags speed plus Jake has been cold
The fuck Swiss... Did you start the threads last SCF? If not, you messed with JuJu -- Fractal has been starting the threads.
You shouldn't sit Jake -- the guy had four posts in the Senators series + five or six other solid scoring chances. Some of those will go in.

It is more than that. The Pred's top four are very mobile and can start and join in on the rush. Really their top four is like having two top pairings. I think it is imperative that the Bonino/Cullen lines have a big impact on the series. It will be tough going for the Crosby/Malkin lines. Sullivan might even move Kessel down to the third line(on occasion) to get a favorable match-up.
I know both teams are banged up and tired but the schedule is favorable for the Pens IMO. They get an extra day off after game two, four, five and six. Just like last year.
Looks like Fisher is a game time decision. I'd love it if he missed a few games.
With nearly every hockey person calling this a 50-50 series might it come down to which coach is best in this series? If so I like our chances-Pens in 7.

Zeke, Swiss took over last year as well and I was going to suggest it to him this year.

Lemme explain, guys.....
*I wanted to post some shit this morning...didn't know where to put it so it would be seen.
*I know that Fractal had started the threads...but y'know what...I'm not buying Juju.
*If Pens lose tonight, we'll do like Sully....put my ass on the bench, bring Fractal back.
Final question....Pens win, does that mean it's my job going forward? Sorry to have intruded, Fractal....I respect what you bring. You want to be the thread-starter, or if the assembled populace, feels you should be, by all means, take back over.
Seriously final question....should I delete my post leading off the thread, others do the same, install Fractal as the starter?
I don't know shit about hockey, but believe I called sitting Guentzel....sounds like it's Haglin that's going to sit though. I dunno, if I was making the call, good as he's playing, still might lead toward sitting Rowney.

You took over last year and it turned out fine. Personally I have no issue with any other poster starting game threads. It gets old doing it and after a hundred or so of these this season I welcome the change.
I wouldn't sit Guentzel either because some of the pipe shots are going to go in this series. Goals are going to be at a premium to start the series. I do think we will get to Rinne but I hope it is not too late.
Sullivan has been hinting his displeasure with Hagelin's play recently so it wouldn't surprise me if he was given a night off. I trust Sully's judgment in these areas.
I won't be surprised if Nashville comes out too hyped up to start tonight and the Pens take advantage. I just don't see how this series doesn't go the distance.
If Malkin and Neal are on the ice simultaneously I would look to see some rough play from each towards the other. Really rough kind of shit.

Swiss, you are good, man. I didn't realize you started last year's SCF thread.
Agree with Rowney. Really like the dude. He likely won't be a difference maker -- Jake has shown the last 50?? games that he is top 6 forward. Maybe fatigue is getting to him (he has played many more games than he used to) but even in spurts I still see the play making and goal scoring. His problem has been either him or the guy he sets up not finishing His forechecking has been a bit off though.
I realized a long time ago I have zero influence on the outcomes of games. The butterfly effect sounds nice on paper, and is perfectly fine as a vehicle to help define and delineate a theory or philosophy.
I'm ok with Swiss posting.
One of Sully's talents is being able get the most out of his players. If Haglin has been inadequate, a few games on the bench might motivate? Guentzel has been decent, imo, and has just not had puck luck.
I'm guessing the preds come out tight. The pens should capitalize, because it will only take a period for the preds to acclimate. But in the long haul, the pens and sully have the experience. I also think they should be doing something to change the narrative of preds great defense and Rinne standing on his head. Shut them out and force defensemen to enter the offensive zone at all times. Then hit them with rushes, but what the fuck do I know.
Saw these and thought they were interesting :

Not sure the pens win in Nashville. I hope they can take the first two games at home.
I say it goes seven.
And I'm going to grow very tired of hearing that goddamn goaltenders name.

I'd prefer Hags sits vs Guentzel bc the latter can be moved up to sids line if we need a spark
Believe fractal said something about dump ins being placed in the corner bc of Rinne puck handling, agree with that.
Also, the Pens just can't "pack it in" while in the defensive zone. The forwards are gonna have to cover the points as all 4 of the Preds D can launch bombs. Outside of Karlsonn, pens haven't faced a guy /team who can generate offense from the backend.

My JuJu is riding with Swiss. Lets DO THIS BOYS!!! Start off strong. Punch them right in the fucking mouth. Kick their ass to the ice from the get go, and put that doubt in their players, coaches & organization's minds. Subdue that fan base and the media fuckt@rds right from the start. Let them all know and doubt why they are there, if they should be there. Take away any hint of confidence.
I am not so sure I don't have the team COME OUT hitting the shit out of some people. Start out physical as hell. Don't give them a chance to start out playing their game. Take some people out before they do. Every team we played, started out trying to play their game, then when they realized they were out-matched and in over their heads, they ALL resorted to thuggery, a "heavy hitting" physical game.
I say we surprise them early and smack them all over the place, wear them down from the get go and take them off their game from the start. Not all game! Only about 5 to 10 minutes into the second quarter. Then change it up and come at them with our speed and offense.
Pens in 5!!! Lets GO PENS!!!

That was B2B.
Going to have to make sure their D is busy defending cause you are right about them dropping bombs from the points.
I just saw a story about Wholey's fish market carding anyone coming in to buy catfish. If you have a Tennessee license they won't sell that particular person catfish.
Turns out the fans throw catfish out on the ice in Nashville. One fan threw a skinned duck out after the Preds scored against Anaheim in the WCF.

James Neal is gonna elbow someone in the head because he's a dirty piece of shit.
The questions are who? When? And does he get suspended?

Win a FO in your own end.
Did Bonino's line see a shift that first 3 minutes? They were taken off the ice by Sully in favor of Sid's line about a minute in on the last change.

Where was a forward on Subban? You can't let him have that much space even when bunched up on the far boards.

Maybe they'll wake up now
Close call on the offsides or insides. Nonetheless, the Pens can't turn the puck over there and give PK Cuban that kind of time and that look. Forwards have to press up toward the blue line! No goal!
Everybody on the ice knows that was a good goal
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.
Pens have to stop giving up so much space at the blue line!!! They c!owe the gap and then step up into them.
