Is Dupree a bust?
Is Dupree a bust?
I focused on him a little and he is gawd awful! He is the reason that Baltimore ran so heavily to his side. He was either taking his long arc and they ran right where he should have been or he was getting blown off the ball by a TE. He has only one pass rush (high arc). I stopped counting at 20 times he ran himself out of the play. Moats isn't much better though. If it were me, I move Watt to the left and put Deebo on the right side (best of everything). I believe Watt was on the left when he got to Flacco for the final play.

Milk Carton Man.
One. Single. Tackle. W.T.F.
With Shaz out, others have to step up and Dupree most definitely did not.

Harrison was faring no better. That Collins dude is fucking fast...how we didn’t grab him when he was cut by Seattle is beyond me. Baltimore’s always finding these RB gems.
Doesn’t make what you say untrue...I did count several times where Dupree ran himself out of the play...but with Collins’ speed, they owned the edge last night.

He is better than Jarvis but not much.
In ACT’s (Art2/Colbert/Tomlin) world I am certain he gets a second contact.
After this season, they should seriously fire Butler and change philosophies. The 3/4 rush OLB who can cover and rush are rare.

Tomlin fucked up not keeping Harrison fresh - he looked heavy and slow. After that KC game, how do you sit him?

Collins speed is not the issue with Dupree. He gets engaged he gets owned. They ran at him 90% of the time cause they know he is soft as baby shit. Last thing I posted about him was looks like Tarzan plays like Jane and last night Jane would have kicked his ass. His ceiling, if he lasts a couple of more years is JAG. Real hard to win a super bowl with anyone on the field playing at his level.

Where are all the Gems at RB that baltimore has found? They've been poor to mediocre at the position since the Ray Rice decline.
They ran at the Dupree and Moats/Spence combo all night. Dupree should be ashamed of himself. He either took horrible angles or he was getting OWNED by TEs all night long. I always hated the Dupree pick because I thought he was only average and we needed an elite player with that pick. Now, I'm questioning whether he is average.
On one play he was PANCAKED with ease by a Ravens TE and I believe it led to a score. I thought Dupree's strength was run defense (to make up for his shitty loop pass rush) but even that was gone last night.

Not only that franco he gives up on plays. Watches them unfold going by and does nothing to contribute. Is easily erased.franco32 wrote:They ran at the Dupree and Moats/Spence combo all night. There is differing levels of bust..., That said, Dupree is now approaching Jarvis Jones level. I think along with ILB and safety they have to look at OLB in 2018 draft. Chickillo is not that much better either. Both are ok as backups in spot starting scenarios. JMO
It was beautiful watching Watt's tenacity on that last play of the game. Just complete berserker mode. I watched him from the snap. What a fucking gem.

Alvin was a product of the draft hype machine. I never thought the tape was there to support him being a first round pick. Jarvis 2.0 in my opinion.

I think he was picked purely based on metrics. They knew he was raw. Peezy needs to quit chest bumping him and teach him some shit.

Eh I thought he was more explosive than Jarvis, but he just never developed anything else except his speed rush. That isn't going to get you far in this league. Get's completely washed out by TE's in the run game

I had my eye on Watt even before the snap. Thinking: he’s literally the only guy out there with a chance to make a play on defense. And to watch him come through! Great play. Great draft pick. And how fantastic was it to watch those last seconds come off the clock with the Ravens clueless and then the hugs on defense knowing they’d won? I’m sure Shazier was on their minds immediately in that moment of victory.

we were too busy focused o Fitz -- we can't be bothered to look at other guys, when we have Fitz on speed dial -- he knows the play book too -- plus he's a monster at blitz pick up

to answer the OP -- yes, Dupree is a complete bust -- I was beating that drum in pre-season -- he's a huge huge liability.

Agree 100%. Its to the point you have to take him out of the game. I would rather go with a blend of Chikilo, Moats, Deebo and Watt and Dupree never gets on the field (deactivate) as that group has a chance of setting the edge, making a tackle, getting to the QB. I would deactivate BUD this week to at least send a message.
I am 100% sure Sunday Brady will look to his right see #48 huffing and puffing, rocking back and forth like he's some kind of warrior, lick his lips and say it's show time. There gonna target Dupree, Spence, and Mitchell

Actually, more like the Anti-Jarvis. Jarvis was all tape and highlight reel, with no metrics or athletic ability to back it up. Bud had all the measurable in the world, with little to no evidence he'd be able to put it all together on the field.
Was my hope at the time that with Butler and Porter available to help tutor, along with JH's hard work and wealth of knowledge to emulate, the "talented ball of clay" plan would work out a little better than it has to this point, that's for sure.

Twice in the past couple of weeks Dupree has quit half way through a play where he should have had a sack. Last night it happened again. The QB was in the pocket with the ball, Dupree just stopped running mid play with nobody between him and the QB I assume he thought the ball was already out again.
He athletically could be one of the best in the league. He's got the tools. It just doesn't translate.

He is playing well in coverage, which is no small thing for this D.

I saw those too as I was focusing on him. How the fuck can he sit through film with Porter, Harrison and Watt and not feel embarrassed as hell.
Porter-2x first team all pro SB Champ
Harrison- 2x first team all pro 2x sb champ DPOY
Watt-Non-stop motor making game saving plays as a rookie
Dupree-Started 13 games...32 total tackles, gets swallowed up by TE's and quitting on plays.
How does he show his face?

I saw that too Perch! He is kind of like Bryant but on Defense......he may be a head case.
Any bets on if he gets a 2nd contract or not? Any bets they make ZERO defensive philosophy changes in the off season? A very stubborn management team.
I remember that play. Remember wishing out loud he had the football instincts God gave eggplants.
And I agree, Balto. Film session must be humiliating for the kid.

there should be NO CHANCE that he receives a 2nd contract, unless it is for minimal pay
FWIW, dupree has not been the same player since he knocked out the Miami QB in the playoffs last year -- he just disappeared after that
"Very good athlete," one scout said. "Has played both up and down. As he's gotten better the defense has gotten better. Pass rusher. Great kid. He can be a physical player." Finished with 21½ sacks. "Athletic, but he's got no instincts," another scout said. "I just don't think he's real smart." Scored 13 on the Wonderlic. Extremely soft-spoken.

He has no intensity/motor. To rush the qb you don't have to be smart. I doubt that LT got a higher wonderlic score.
Not saying that BD should be LT but his play is pathetic. How does he look Harrison in the eye and feel that he should be playing over him.

I think a large part of this is due to current rules, and defenders not being able to play actual defense. That was the first thought that went through my head when he let Dalton go...trying to avoid 15 additional yards.

Ding, ding, ding....we have a winner.
This off-season, I would like to see Watt take Bud under his wing and teach him how to play OLB. He could probably teach him better than anyone on our team - coaches included.

Jervis and Dupree illustrate two ways of being a first round disappointment/bust. Jervis simply lacked the physical tools, at least in the defense he was being asked to play in; but they saw something in him and hoped it would translate. It didn’t. Dupree does seem to have the physical tools, they knew he was raw, but it doesn’t seem to translate for a different reason. It has always seemed to me that football smarts, instincts, and drive were qualities that are under-appreciated and difficult to assess pre-NFL. Watt has a surplus of these qualities. As did Hines Ward. JuJu has them. I don’t think Dupree does. Can he be coached up? Count me among those who will be very pleasantly surprised if it happens at any point during his career.
