Re: M Bryant
If this site existed in the 1980s there would have been bitching and moaning to no end, but I see the bitching and moaning going on now as more than justified. Why? Two words:
Ben Roethlisberger.
There is urgency right now because you have the one key to the puzzle that teams wait DECADES to have (us in the 80s and 90s) and some never get, ever. A QB that can win Lombardi trophies.
Shit draft picks, poor decision making, lack of concentration, stupid mistakes, and piss poor effort are all legitimate gripes and we have seen all of that from the current coaching staff and current roster. I myself bitch a lot, but I was here during our SB runs and I was happier than a clam. We've been out of the playoffs for two seasons and it's obvious we have work to do to be a legitimate contender again. The microscope is intense right now because as years go by, the clock is ticking on Ben's career. I think highly of almost every poster here. And everyone knows that Ben is the guy to take us to the promise land.
So tell me again why people shouldn't be hyper-critical right now?

Hahahhaha....this is so funny to me. I signed up at another board during the month this one was down. It didn't take me long to get banned. I can not believe the drivel they routinely put out...in any case, having read there as a writer for a while, then returning here I'm pretty certain a couple members here were also the loudest pussy propaganda writers at that site. I can't believe the shit I get flagged here for these days...there are a half dozen posters more vile and negative then I am and the bullshit I catch is ridiculous.
I figure there a couple pussy, dual agents flagging or attacking every poster that is Steeler negative...with no regard to the only rules being no religion, race, politics or personal attacks. A couple of snitch cocksuckers fuck things up in general...Really, if it is so fucking difficult for you to emotionally deal with criticism...hit the fucking ignore button...otherwise you have a larger agenda snitch.

I only posted cause I.C.'s above response nailed it. If we're all truly Steeler fans, then we all need to keep the big picture in mind. I.C. reminded me of that. This front office has been running things since '01 or '02. They didn't suddenly forget how to operate an NFL team, as so many on here seem to think, sadly.
Saying they've been dropping the ball and saying they don't know how to operate an NFL team are two different things.
Completely.
What's sad is people's ability to think critically as well as analyze things from multiple angles.
You can very much be a fan and love your team while at the same time be critical of them.
It doesn't have to be one extreme or the other. That's what bugs me.
This is a message board. We are all here to voice an opinion. Good or bad.
I'm flying five people from Calif to see the Nov. 2 game vs the Ravens. That's not a cheap trip.
Can I please have my "fan card" back now.
Oh noooo. Somebody said this front office can't see the forest through the trees... Oh nooooo.
3 years, zero playoff wins, multiple losses to some of the worst teams & QBs in the league all the while possessing one if the best QBs in the a QB driven league.
That is a direct result of poor coaching, personnel decisions, and player development.
And that's not opinion, it's a fact.

It's also a result of poor player execution. The players need to take part of the blame for the last three seasons, it's not all on the front office and the coaching staff.

Exactly, losing, just like winning, takes a team effort, but if some of these draft picks dont start working out, I'll heap a little more blame on the front office

And that's not opinion, it's a fact.
If you're claiming that the underlying message from this board is that the FO is dropping the ball, then you're not really reading. This site has zero confidence in the FO and if the Rooney's cleaned house this board would be okay with that. That's obvious as fuck just reading random posts. Big difference from dropping the ball. Completely. That's Raider Nation shit. Redskin crap and Jerry Jones idiocy.
All i'm saying is go back and look at the swings during the Cowher years. Shit happens, drafts suck. 8-8 happens. I'm not saying Tomlin and Co. are doing exemplary atm, but the demonizing of these guys is silly.

Oh I realize that too.
Fact remains, this organization has (of late) has not gotten it done. From the execs, to coaches, to players.
This can't be disputed. As Tomlin would say, "you are what you put on tape".
Now this doesn't mean we aren't going to kick ass this year. I hope we do.
But it also doesn't mean we can't speak to it. Just because they did things well in years past doesn't mean they are making the best decisions at present.
Not difficult to understand.

I'm not commenting on what the "underlying message of the board is" nor do I care.
I said this front office cant see the forest through the trees. Recently they haven't. And because I failed to say "of late" I got guys line IC reciting Steelers history.
1) I'm aware if the history and (2) what happened in the past doesn't change what has been happening in the present.

Not saying the people can't speak to the problems or be critical but some have taken that we haven't gotten it done lately to lose perspective and be hypercritical about everything.
It's important that keep in mind that going 8-8 two years in a row isn't that long in the grand scheme of things. We are undergoing a transition, sometimes it takes time. Having Ben doesn't change that.

It's not that long. I agree. I waited 26 years in between Super Bowls.
What has people so concerned (IMO) is that we have fallen to the point that we can't beat or at times even compete with the dregs of the league. 4 win teams are stealing our lunch money.
Without Ben, we are one of those 4 win teams.
The other issue at hand, is we have a short window right now with Ben in his prime.
Basically, we don't have time to be fucking around.

To me the problem is as it's always been, playing to the level of our competition. The last couple of years we haven't even gotten out of our own way when playing the dregs of the league.
I am hopeful that the transition is closer to being done then starting, Ben won't be here forever and one hit he can't recover from could end the whole thing.

Exactly. And why is that??
