Wk 15 recap Steelers at Cardinals: Takeaways

Post by bradshaw2ben » Tue Dec 10, 2019 12:32 am

The triumphant return of the steelerfury.com front page!
Takeaways: this game had ’em, this season has them in abundance, the Steelers defense like Rolling Rock has 33, and I’ve got many.

1st time I’ve heard anyone mention a Ben return in January, I’ve wondered to myself is that something that would be possible with the return from I/R rules, also wonder how long expected recovery from the surgery he had is. Obviously when he first had the surgery they said he was done for the year, but what if we make a deep playoff run, would he or could he come back?

A few of us having been making that joke....it's like 5% based on the fact they never said what the injury was or the surgical procedure performed, 94% wishful thinking, and 1% that it's really weird to grow a playoff beard when you're on season IR....

But if Ben showed up to practice tomorrow, would 4 weeks be enough time to get the rhythm and timing down to start a WC game?

They were very coy about what surgery he had exactly. It could be 8 months or more it could be (and this is the shortest time frame I've heard) 14 weeks. The only thing published was that he did not have Tommy John surgery, which has one of the longer recovery times.

If there was any possibility he'd never throw again, they'd avoid saying what surgery he had, and if there is any possibility he'd be ready for some playoff game or the Super Bowl, I'm sure they'd avoid saying that, especially considering they were trying to make their 2020 1st round pick sound appetizing.

I know someone in the medical field who has a special understanding of sports injuries. That person said that, from Ben's reaction and what he did, it looked to this person like it was a mid-mass muscle injury, with the accompanying need for surgery. That surgery has not only the shortest recovery time, it also would be really good news in that athletes recovering from this surgery report that afterwards their arm feels like new-- like no injury ever happened. Take that all for what it's worth.

I think the beard makes total sense for a guy who can't use his right arm. He could go and get it shaved off, but I'm betting he won't shave his own face until he's good and healed.

If Ben is healthy enough to throw, I'd have him in uniform over Mason Rudolph with no practice.

Pardon me, but is it actually possible (NFL League Rules) that Ben could come back if healthy?

Just want to gets things clear...

and why hasn't Allen been activated from IR? Hmmmmm, it's almost like they might be saving a spot for someone... :D

What do you think, B2B - we got enough for Crarreport to run a scoop?

Ok, this is promising, if TOMLIN is keeping his mouth shut and the Steelers are behind this color me impressed, that’s some possible cool news

There's no there there yet, just idle speculation because no one has said anything definitive about the surgery since early September.

And you keep saying Allen... you mean Sean Davis? They recently said Davis is not going to be ready to play until next year.

Also, they can bring back two.

Tuitt's injury has a recovery time that's too long.

Nix and Gilbert would be interesting possibilities. Nix wouldn't be eligible until the AFCCG. Gilbert would be eligible for the playoffs, but I don't know what's exactly wrong with him, other than "back".

He’s a hunter...deer hunter. Most deer hunters grow em for a little extra warmth during the season. It gets cold sitting hours in those blinds and tree stands.
I have a better chance of starting a playoff game than Ben...

Nice write up!

I think I disagree with you on the refs. I feel like this has been a pretty good year in terms of Steeler games. I think we have gotten most of the needed calls. And the interference calls really concerned me early on, but it has completely died...knock wood. Again just talking Steeler games and not league wide.

The speculation of Ben’s return in this thread is beyond titillating!

It is still hard to believe, we don’t know what was fixed...muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, cartilage! It is infuriating!

I am guessing it was muscle and tendon which are essentially identical where they join together.

But then when you look at the device below, I think ligaments.

I feel it leaguewide with the officiating, but the non-helmet to helmet against a defenseless receiver (Jaylen Samuels) was an insane missed call this week. A lot of it is bad spots, bad presnap or alignment fouls, ridiculous hands to the face calls, ridiculous roughing and PI calls.
