Whatever happened to the Pittsburgh Steeler refrain that the playbook is so complicated & it takes years to figure out & be able to contribute? What do we have this year - 15 Steelers who never wore the Black & Gold prior to 2019 & we are doing pretty good. The coaches may have been forced to change due to injury & other adversity & I suppose, KC is right in phrasing it that he had nothing to lose. But I hope that our lifetime coach Mike Tomlin has finally figured it out & sees that injecting new blood sooner rather than later is for the better.

Terrell Edmunds, TJ Watt, JJSS, Sean Davis, Jarvis Jones, Leveon Bell, Vince Williams, Marcus Gilbert and Maurkice Pouncey all started the majority of games in their rookie year. Decastro was a starter from Day 1 but got hurt. Shazier also battled injuries in his rookie season. Tuitt was starting by the end of his rookie year. Hell, Mike freaking Adams started 6 games as a rookie.

Guys like Lawrence Timmons, Cam Heyward, and Ziggy Hood were developmental picks behind All-Pros on a Super Bowl contender. Of course they didn't contribute much early on.

The Steelers are winning in spite of all the new blood, not because of it.

You just named THREE freaking 1st round picks and called them what??? developmental picks??? developmental picks would be 5th thru 7th rd picks you are trying to develop.

FIRST round picks are not developmental cross your finger picks for chrikes sake.

Solid strawman argument there. Developmental pick =/= "cross your finger pick". Patrick Mahomes is a nice example. Ditto Khalil Mack.

In the case of Timmons, it was a raw athlete with limited starting experience in college. In the case of Hood and Heyward, it was two players moving to a new position of 3-4 DE.
In the case of every single one of them, it was a matter of playing behind and established All-Pro (Farrior and Keisel/Smith).

The Steelers consistently had a top 3 defense between 2003-2011 and people still bitch about rookies not playing. That is incredibly stupid to me.

Once he left and the old guard changed over (Troy, Farrior, Hampton, Smith, Ike, etc,) we had no choice but to put the young guys in. There weren't many spots for young guys to play for about 10 years.

Yeah this is/was mostly an issue with LBs and DBs getting up to speed with LeBeaus D because of its complexity.

Tomlin eliminated that concern once DL left by hiring stupid coaches and drafting stupider players.

It was an issue of the Steelers being absolutely loaded on D and not needing to play rookie 3rd round picks.

Jarvis Jones and Ryan Shazier were Day 1 starters under Lebeau.

Are we really arguing that Anthony Smith, Bryant McFadden, Ricardo Colclough, and Ziggy Hood should have seen more playing time? Or that Jason Worilds should have played more ahead of Harrison and Woodley in 2010?
